HT201304 iPhone 4S - parental controls and restrictions

My son has an iPhone 4S.  Can I disable his ability to text?  Use data (You Tube, Safari, etc.)?  The "restrictions" capability on the phone does not seem to be very robust.  Thank you...

You cant turn off texting from the restrictions from the phone (just like calling). You can possibly turn it off by contacting your wireless provider (ATT, Sprint, Verizon).
On a side note, why would you give your kid a $600 phone, and then turn off basic features the phone comes with?

If you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) on your account then the steps on this page will give you a reset link on your account : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6170
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer your questions) then you will need to contact Support in your country to get the questions reset.

When they've been reset (and if you don't already have a rescue email address) you can then use the steps on this page to add a rescue email address for potential future use : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5620

  • IChat, Parental Control and Bonjour

Rather than using AIM (and it's slowness), I was hoping to be able to use Bonjour on our internal network (which is firewalled and, obviously, not a threat) to chat/audio conference with our youngest.
I used the parental control to limit his AIM partners to the family but still wanted to allow him to talk on our network in the house. Unfortunately, when I go into iChat via his account the "using Bonjour instant messaging" is grayed out.
I tried turning it on in iChat on his account, going to my admin account and THEN enabling parental control, and trying again but no dice.
    Any ideas?
Sure would be nice for home networks to have the option to iChat with everyone at Bonjour vs. AIM speeds (doubly so if you are on dialup!).

    hi James,
Well I read this and thought "he can't be right" ?
    So I went to test
Enabled Parental Controls and for iChat and Added one AIM/@mac buddy.
Looked for ability to add Bonjur or Jabber accounts but found nothing
Went to log in to that account.
Check to see if Bonjour window was available. Nope.
Checked iChat Preferences >Accounts and could not select Bonjour.
Took off Parental Controls - Appears in iChat, Bonjour and Jabber windows.
Selecting and deselecting Parental Control Logs iChat in and out of AIM.
I must admit to thinking this is a big Opps by Apple

  • Snow Leopard Parental Controls and iChat (Can't see iChat anymore)

I enabled Parental Controls on my daughters profile. I left applications to unrestricted access, and unrestricted access to web sites (but I still review the log)... I selected to LIMIT iChat and then added the people she can chat with (she's 8).
The problem is, it looks like iChat is online. It's in her dock. Has the little white light dot on underneath the app but I can't see the chat window. You know, where you actually double click on someone to chat with? What gives???
When I go to iChat preferences and on the Accounts tab, "enable this account" is not checked, but it's grayed out so I can't check it!!

It seemed to crop up in Leopard with the first Parental Controls and has yet to be "sorted" in Snow Leopard.
I tend to think it is because Parental Control Updates are out of Step with iChat ones but I have no real insight as to the cause.

  • VOC shipping control and restrictions-approach?

    Hello experts,
We are implementing the VOC shipping control and restrictions.
It could be possible to implement this with SVT notification check and specification database with expert server. But it will be very complex solution, since the managing data from legacy will be a challenge. Is there any implementation documentation available on this approach?
There may be some better solution available. Is there any standard solution in ECC 6.0 for this?
    Thanks for your help.
    Regards
    Milind

    Deatr Milind
VOC topic is discusseed very rarely here. As mentioned by you: one solution approach is SVT; There is may be only at max 5 threads discussing VOC; and only one threads is SVT related: Check: Substance Volume Tracking using SAP EHS MANAGEMENT
VOC is discussed (with several subitems) in these threads:
    VOC specification symbols..
Maximum VOC Value to be printed on a label
    VOC highest value
    These are more "WWI" oriented. In regards of your topic:;
VOC (Volitile Organic Compounds) Shipping Control and Restrictions?
is "nearly" the same as you are looking for. (may be)
IN completely other context VOC is discussed here:
    Waste Management
    and here:
parameter readings entry on day to to day basis in EHS -reg
    Regarding:
"There may be some better solution available. Is there any standard solution in ECC 6.0 for this?"
a.) no standard solution avaialble as far as I know about
b.) "other" solution involves e.g. SAP GTS
    In regards of:
.But it will be very complex solution, since the managing data from legacy will be a challenge.
I can not "confirm" your finding/Statement. A solution scenario like:
"It could be possible to implement this with SVT notification check and specification database with expert server" is stable and robust and not complex (from my point of view)
To use EHS (with e.g. SVT and other subapplications) is a suitable solution approach to context of VOC (but it does not cover all of the VOC aspects (refer below and pay attention with VOC term !)
    C.B.
PS: pay attention with VOC term ! VOC does have a lot of "unknown" topics on the top; there are a lot of regulations in place in VOC are; but thgey do not all have "complete" overlap in their demands; some of them extend the demandto a chemical company acting (e.g. Switzerland is a good example); here it is on the top a "Tax" issue (therefore it is not 100% related to Environment Health and Safety topics (which is EHS).
Conclusion: the legislation in regards of VOC is quite complex ! (refer to the links as shown (only examples; you will find more !))

  • VOC (Volitile Organic Compounds) Shipping Control and Restrictions?

VOC (Volitile Organic Compounds) Shipping Control and Restrictions - Is anyone dealing with how to control the sales/stock transfer shipments of VOC materials restricted by state and local municipalities?  Depending on the VOC content percentage of materials, we are limited in some states across the country if we can ship into that municapility.
The goal is that we would like to utilize the product
classifications, product categories , and VOC assignments  that are currently being maintained  in ECC EH&S Hazardous Substance
Management  to be analyzed by rules  and based on where material is being shipped
to (customer /delivery address on po ) to determine if product can be shipped
there.  If not, want to create a block.
Currently, we have to manage this today manually, which is not always accurate and very time consuming.
    Thanks.
    Cheryl Capiccioni

    Cheryl,
SVT notification check could be used to solve this issue. The SVT notification check does not check against volume thresholds only it can also be used against notifications that are required for certain validity areas. Maintenance of notification information per substance and customizing of a SVT scenario for it are needed of course, to let the system perform the required checking.

  • HT201304 Are there any parental controls or restrictions I can set for YouTube on the iPhone?

If you are looking for a new take on Internet Parental Controls that addresses how much time your kids can spend on-line on any device, check out this new HIPOM (https://www.myHIPOM.com) offering.
They have a very interesting free service that lets parents see all of the internet-enabled devices in your house and turn them on or off like a light switch - all from a simple web page.  No software to download or configure and it works for any internet-enabled device.  I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now and it really works.  I use it to kick my daughter off Facebook after 8:30pm every night with a push of a button!
Rumor has it they are going into "beta test" with a 'Web Safeguards' feature as well that will allow parents to block content while the kids are online.  It’s a nice one-two punch for internet parental controls – an internet timer control deciding when they can go on-line and a web filtering control deciding what they can see while on line.
    FWIW

  • Parental controls/time restrictions on iPhone

I can safely say that my daughter's iPhone has ruined our lives.  We've had it for five days.  Yes, there are some built-in parental controls, but Apple has blocked anybody from offering a software program that will turn the dang thing off (I'm talking about texting and calling) at a certain time every night.  I have a daughter who is addicted to her phone and the battles are humongous to get her to do anything but text.
There are plenty of good programs with good parental controls for the Android and Blackberry, but thanks Apple for not allowing us as parents to turn the phone off at night.  I know about Mobicip, which is a great company, but they can only turn the internet off, not texting or calling.  When you have a kid who can and will text 5,000 texts a month, we need something that eliminates the battles at home and can automatically turn the thing off when it's bedtime.  We're all losing sleep.  Most parents, when they get an iPhone for their kid, don't realize that Apple, unlike Android, has chosen to place more importance on children's privacy than parent's ability to place restrictions on their kids' phones.  I plan to take the iPhone back and get her an Android.

The carrier doesn't have to "touch iPhone SMS or calling features. THEY SHUT THEM DOWN at thier end.
    http://www.att.net/smartcontrols-SmartLimitsForWireless
Have you even bothered to look to see what AT&T offers? Apparently NOT. You can effectively shut her down on any schedule you like.
Restrict the times it can be used for messaging, browsing and outbound calling.
That means no SMS, no iMessage, and no calling her friends. It doesn't block incoming calls, but messages will be blocked.
Afraid she'll hop on your WiFi and use that instead? Then lock her out of it. You can even do it on a schedule if you have a half way decent router and a few ounces of technical understanding.
    FEATURES
ENHANCED FEATURE: Block incoming and outgoing calls and text messages - now up to 30 numbers.
NEW FEATURE: Block calls to 411 Directory Assistance (including 555-1212).
Restrict times of day the phone can be used for messaging, browsing and outbound calling.
Set limits for the number of text and instant messages allowed per billing cycle.
Choose a dollar limit for downloadable purchases (ringtones, games and more).
Select the amount of web browsing/data usage allowed per billing cycle.
Restrict access to inappropriate content with content filters.
    COST
    $4.99/month per line
    OTHER
Calls and text messages to and from phone numbers you designate as “Allowed Numbers” and calls to and from 911 will continue to be permitted regardless of the limits you set.
As your child approaches the text and download limits, he/she will receive an advance warning. Once a limit is reached, there will be a notification that the action is restricted and that the service will be stopped until the next billing cycle begins.
    Please Note Important Limitations:

  • Parental Controls(Enable Restrictions) and installing apps through ITunes store (PC)

Through Parental control(Restrictions), the iTunes Store and Installing apps can be disabled on iPhone. Now is this feature can prevent apps getting installed if Apps are purchased through iTunes Store in PC and synced with iTunes? Is it possible to disable syncing with iTunes?

So you are saying that, even if there is Restrictions, with iTunes and Installing apps disabled, applications can be purchased through iTunes in PC and can be synced with iPhone and get the applications installed. Is that a correcy assumption?

  • IPhone 4S parental controls

Looking to change wireless providers and buy myself and 2 kids the iphone 4s.
Please correct me if I am wrong but here is how I believe the parental controls will work.
    1) Usage Controls
Verizon network - Content, usage allowances, time restriction, block/trusted numbers all work
Wireless network - Content, usage allowances, time restriction, block/trusted numbers do not work
    2) Family Locator
Verizon network - Does not work
Wireless network - Does not work
    3) Content Filters
                    Verizon network - works
Wireless network - does not work
Again, this is for the iphone 4S.
    Thanks

Hi wscott! Thanks for bringing your questions regarding iPhone compatibility with VZW content and access filters. I can answer all of your questions! Yes, I can confirm your understanding of how Usage Controls, Family Locater and Content Filers work. Since these are features that you're interested in, you should also know that where our features may not be compatible (Family Locater - Locatee), there are many applications that can take their place. For more information on apps available for the iPhone, please go to http://www.apple.com/iphone/from-the-app-store/ . Thanks again! I hope you and your family enjoy your new service!!

  • Restoring / Find My iPhone / Forgotten Parental Controls' Passcode Problem

Hi, I was wondering, how do I restore my iphone when I cannot disable Find My iPhone because the Parental Controls' passcode has been forgotten, which cannot be disabled because I would need to restore my iPhone, which obviously I cannot do?

You can disable Find My iPhone by going to iCloud.com and signing in with the Apple ID and password, then clicking Find My iPhone and choosing to "remove this device".  Your Apple ID password is almost certainly different from your Restrictions Passcode.  If you also do not remember your Apple ID Password, then do not restore the iPhone, as that would leave you with an Activation Locked iPhone.  Your best bet would be to take steps to reset or recover the Apple ID password before proceeding.  AppleID.apple.com is where you can go to reset the Apple ID password if that is the case.

  • I used the parental controls and now safari won't appear on the children's desktop.

Can anybody help please?? I created a separate user account for my children so I could control their time on the computer as well as what websites they visit and now when they log in, Safari is not present on their dashboard nor can they access the internet.  Anybody have any ideas?
    Thanks.

  • Parental Controls and TimeMachine conflict

I'm trying to setup a managed account using parental controls. I want the account to use the SimpleFinder and only certain applications.
Well, the SimpleFinder was a click of a radio button. The selected applications is immensely complicated because the list contains all of the TimeMachine backups. I have like 30 of each application-- most with timestamps of the TimeMachine backup.
Its impossible picking the allowed applications because I'm scrolling through a list of hundreds of Time Machine backups trying to find the entry for the original in the Applications folder.
Any ideas? I'm running 10.5.1 on a G5 iMac. My TimeMachine backup is on another partition on the same harddrive (my external drive died and I'm waiting for a new one). Spotlight is set to ignore the TimeMachine partition.

    Hi srlagarto,
I understand your concerns. Please note that controlled lines on Family Locator can be located and will generate Scheduled and Arrival & Departure Updates, except during time restrictions. The service is working as designed.
This service limitation is disclosed in the Usage Controls General Information webpage. To view disclosure please go to webpage and scroll down to question: Will Family Locator work with Usage Controls?

  • BT Yahoo Parental Controls and I-tunes

    Hello all,
I’ve had a number of problems with my children’s Ipod Nano’s.
We are running windows XP professional, with BT yahoo broadband. We have the pc set up so that there are different users. Me and my children each have their own account.
My children are 8 and 11 years old and as a result I have the BT yahoo broadband parental controls in place. The parental controls are in place and set to '‘kids’ setting.
I want my children to be able to use itunes to put their CD’s on and subsequently sync them to the ipod.
However the minute I open itunes on my children’s account, BT yahoo brings up an error message that says BT Yahoo will not allow itunes.exe to run due to parent controls.
I cant seem to give my children permission to use itunes as its not a website I am giving permission too but an .exe file. I don’t want to decrease the parental controls settings on BT yahoo. Can anyone help as my children have two ipods that they cannot use at the moment, useless they use my account and remove the items that are in my itunes library.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Kris

This sounds like it a problem with BT Yahoo parental controls rather than a "Connecting your iPod to Windows" problem which is where you've posted. I doubt if you'll get much practical help with your issue here, but to improve your chances you might like to consider posting to a more general and appropriate discussion (e.g. "Using iTunes for Windows" or "Installing & Upgrading iTunes for Windows"). As it is the BT Yahoo restrictions which is restricting iTunes you're probably going to get better advice from a BT Yahoo helpdesk. You might like to double check that you've not made a typo when entering the info into parental controls.
