Experimental advice ... but, plausibly, the preference files containing the parental control setting may be damaged. If so, removing the iTunes preference files may help.
For the basic technique, see the "Remove iTunes preference files" section from the "User-specific troubleshooting" section of the following document:
iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7: Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch issues
To see those folders, you'll need to first set your PC to view hidden files and folders
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Prior to doing the preference file rebuilds: Best to make a note of any custom preferences you have set up for your iTunes. (Rebuilding pref files returns preferences to their defaults ... so you'll likely have to set some of those custom preferences up again from scratch.) Also make a note of any third-party plugins/add-ons you have installed. You may have to reinstall those after the rebuilds.
Things to watch out for during the rebuilds
Rebuilding the preference files in the \Local\ location causes the iTunes license agreement to run. So you'll need to agree to that again.
Rebuilding the preference files in the \Roaming\ location causes the iTunes Setup Assistant to run. When prompted to do so, do not add files to your iTunes library. (Otherwise you'll end up with a library full of duplicates.)

  • Is there a parental control app that is good out there?

Is there a parental control app that is good out there?

Mobicip and K9 are really good options. I like Mobicip especially because K9 doesn't offer the "Open in" dialog for files. If you're on an iPad, Olly is another really good option, though again it won't let you open files.
Remember to delete all google apps, they are full of loopholes.

  • Parental Controls app settings keep changing on their own

I manage a lab and have setup Parental Controls to allow certain apps. However, later students will launch an app. that I have enabled and get the dialog box saying it isn't allowed. I go back and check parental controls for that computer and the app is now unchecked.
    1) how can I keep this from happening?
    2) is there a preferences file somewhere that I can save and then just upload from time to time?
    Thanks,
    Craig

I suspect your students are smarter than you think they are
Be sure nobody knows the admin password. Change it to be sure and make sure nobody is looking.
Be sure nobody has a Leopard DVD handy.
Be sure all users are non-admin types.
Check all 3rd party apps installed on the machines.
You can also check the console logs on the machines to see how and when the change occurred.

  • ITunes Parental Control error

I have a problem. For some reason, I had locked the parental control for my copy of iTunes. Now, I want to open it up and change my settings. I use my password (I'm one of two people who have Admin access on this computer) and I get an "unknown error (1909)" after I enter my username and password, and then it won't unlock.
Is there a way to reset the parental control so it's unlocked?

To isolate the concern, use another browser or computer to configure parental control. If that is not going to work, restart the computer and power-cycle the router and try the setup again. Also make sure the router’s firmware is up to date.

  • ITunes Parental Controls

How do you revise parental controls when the options are grayed out?

Same problem here. There are nude apps and even one for sex positions that have the preview showing in the popular app section. My 9 year old kid can't download it but they can see an illustration of people having sex doggy style with a vivid description. This despite the fact the parental controls claim to hide previews for adult apps. What is wrong with my settings that this crap is still visible to my children?

  • Approved Parental Control Apps

    Hello,
I have a script that I want one of my local users to be able to run. The script is located on their desktop. The script is named with the ".command" extension so it runs in terminal. I use parental controls, and the user has access to the Terminal App, but it won't let the user run the .command script as it says it's not part of the approved apps they can run. I tried moving the script to the /Applications folder, hoping it would show up in Parental Controls for me to allow access, but it doesn't. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
    Robert

Can you drag the script into the list of apps in the parental controls preferences?

  • HT201304 iOS parental controls do not prevent the child from changing the device passcode.

So the parent cannot get into the device at all unless the child provides the passcode. Sure, the device can be taken away until the child provides the passcode, but why don't parental controls just prevent the passcode from being changed?  Either that, or the parental control passcode should allow the parent to get into the device, over-riding the passcode lock.

We are not Apple iOS programmers.  Just device users like yourself.

  • HT201304 Kindle Amazon app store has an app called childs place. It's a parental control app that allows the parent to put only apps into it for childrens access & requires a password to get out of. Anyone know if there is a similar app in the Apple app s

Kindle App Store has an app names Child's Place. It lets you add only the apps you want your child to access and requires a passcode to exit it. That way your child cannot access any other content except what you have allowed in this particular app. Does anyone know if Apple App store has anything comparable? I know you can set up restrictions in settings but this is different.
    Thanks

Sorry but no, that is not possible in iOS. Other than what is offered in the Restrictions, there is no way to lock apps in general unless the app itself has a password feature. You can in iOS 6 lock the iPad into a single app, but that's your only option.
It's a tradeoff; apps can't affect each other except in very restrictive ways in iOS which makes such features from third parties impossible, but it also renders getting malware infecting your iOS device extremely unlikely, something not the case with Android-based devices.
    Regards.

  • ITunes Parental Control

How do I restrict content for some video downloaded onto my iPad2 in iTunes?

No, and it only seems that you can restrict films and TV Porgrammes via Restrictions (both of which have 'all content' options), and not music videos - have you tried restricting 'all' films and tv to see if they include music videos ?

  • HT201304 Can parental controls make it so that you can only text/call certain numbers?

My daughter is getting an iPhone and I wanted to see if I can put a restriction to her messages and calls so that only certain numbers can call/text her. Any ideas?

I see what you're trying to point out on this concern you have, However there is no setting on the phone that can do that. See this article for reference. You may consider contacting your carrier to check for further possible options on that. Then again, there is no assurance for it.

  • Parental oversight and control apps

Is there a program like "my mobile watchdog" for the iphone?  I have 2 14 yo daughters getting iphones from Santa and I'd like to make sure they play safe once they have the phones.  I was pretty excited until I realized MMW doesn't work on the iphone.

There a many parental control apps in the app store.  Just search for "parental control".

  • Non-iTunes Store Content: Parental Controls

I'm trying to figure out how to use iTunes parental controls on content that I did not download from the iTunes Store. The contents contains both songs and videos that I downloaded from another site and ripped from CDs.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Sorry, but Parental Controls won't work with material you import from CD or another source, only with the iTunes Store. The solution to Parental Controls for other material is for you, the parent, to control what you put in iTunes for any user account to which your kids have access. The best route would be to set up an account in Mac OS X just for your kids, and only put into that account's iTunes those tracks you wish your kids to listen to.

  • ITunes 10.5 Parental Control Issue - Cannot Disable Check for Updates

We are looking at updating to iTunes 10.5 in a large company.
Normally we add the following key to lock parental controls and disable the check for software updates.
This locked or greyed out the check for updates check box. This does not seem to work in the 10.5 release.
This did work in iTunes 10.4.1.10.
Here is the registry key we are using.
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Apple Computer, Inc.\iTunes\Parental Controls\Default]
    "AdminFlags"=dword:00000101
    kParentalFlags_Locked
    0x00000001
    1
    kParentalFlags_DisableCheckForUpdates
    0x00000100
    256
Other parental control options seem to work.
    Any suggestions?
