HT201304 Restrict Mail  and Messaging

I was trying to determine how to restrict access to mail and messaging.  Boyfriend invades privacy and is jealous of the most innocent conversations.  I can't believe this most important privacy issue is overlooked.

Technical solution?  For a boyfriend that looks over your shoulder to peek at your passcode and invades your privacy?
It's called a TASER.
Maybe iOS 7 will have a DNA scanner app, or a fingerprint scanner.  Until then, there is NO technical solution for your situation, because it's not a technical problem.  It's a social/relationship problem.
If he looks over your shoulder while you enable a passcode of any sort, then no passcode or lock or whatever you put on the device will work.  Just like if I look over your shoulder when you put in your ATM PIN, and then I take your debit card, I'll get all your money.
You need a social solution, not a technical one.

  • Mail and Messages freeze in landscape/portrait mode

When in Messages and Mail, my iPhone 5 freezes in landscape or portrait mode.  I can continue to type, edit, etc. but can only get it to rotate after pressing 'Home' button or closing and re-opening app.  I am running 8.0.2.  I notice it most when taking a break for Mail or Messages and turning phone off and when I turn back on.  I'm guessing it is a bug and not a hardware problem because I can always get it to clear by just pressing home or closing app.

    Hello there, HoosierZach1979.
Great job in coming up with a good workaround for your issue with Mail and Messages. For issues regarding iOS not functioning as expected, the following Knowledge Base article provides a great and practical list of steps for troubleshooting:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
If a single application is not responding or stops responding when it opens, you can force it to close.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected,  restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on),  reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more about restoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.

    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • HT1689 how to fix the mail and message

i want the mail and message in they could text on my messagr!

I do not know what "i want the mail and message in they could text on my messagr!" means. Please clarify

  • IOS 7 back ground makes it difficult to read the text.  How can I change it in mail and messages?

    HI,
iOS 7 back ground makes it difficult to read the text.  I know I can't change it in mail and messages, but Apple really needs to allow some customization.  This is really difficult to read for older eyes.

yeah I agree with all you guys statements, the color scheme on IOS 7 *****,
I am having to constantly turn on off on off on off  "invert color" mode just to switch between
the home screen, typing, and reading text messages, its an absolute pain!!
I never had any of this trouble in IOS 6.
What they SHOULD do, is make 2 different color schemes
    one LIGHT color scheme,
and one DARK color scheme, for those using "invert colors" frequently.
See, what Apple doesn't seem to understand is, when you turn on "invert colors",
the lock screen turns bright WHITE, so you have to turn invert colors OFF just to read the lock screen,
then back ON when you want to type an email, read a text message, etc etc, then turn it off again when
you want to play a game.
and see, after awhile, when you switch invert colors on off on off after so  many times, it drains on the devices resources, & you have to reboot the device to get accessibility options working again.   I have to reboot the device several times a day now just because of that, when its just a simple fix of adding a darker color scheme as a 2nd or alternative option.
I mean, even as a normal sighted person, turning on invert colors is annoying when your at the lock screen or playing a game, think about those of us who depend upon it just to read text on the screen..  VoiceOver has the smilar issues when you have to turn it off on off on all the time it drains the system resources of the phone also,
    so I agree completely...
but ya know, they don't listen to us...  cuz its an option they don't use, so they don't understand... If they used that option for even 5 seconds, they'd understand what we're talking about....  What Apple should do is hire one of us as a beta tester to help them test out these types of issues,  from one of us like myself who knows a thinkg or two about accessibility options of the phone.
I've been an Apple idevice fan for years, but, IOS 7 was a major disappointment in the accessibility arena..
    kind regards,
    Tom

  • Can not get mail and  messages from old phone to my new phone

can not get my mail and text messages transferred from my old Verizon Droid x2 to my LG Optimus  what's the process

lock321, Let's get your information transferred! Text messages do not transfer from device to device unless you have backed the text messages up with an application on your Droid X2. Do you recall backing your text messages up using our  Verizon Cloud http://vz.to/1BkRU5Tor another 3rd party app? Emails usually transfer over once you add your email account information into the LG Optimus. http://vz.to/1BkRYCK

  • E72: e-mail and message problem

    Hi,
I want to safe up some space on my phone memory so I tried this:
-Menu-messaging-settings-other-change phone memory to memory card.
Now when i try that, for like 2 seconds the phone says "changing message memory in use", then it closes and the menu screen is back open. And when i check back to the setting, the memory use is still on "phone memory"...
-Another thing i did was deleting a lot of e-mails in my hotmail inbox. But when I restarted my phone, they were there again... How do you shorten the amount of emails that are held on the phone?
    Thanks in advance,
    Thijs

I have no idea about the messages' storage memory, sorry
About your mailbox problem, after you delete emails, you should wait until the next synchronization and do a restart to see if they are there

  • Mail and messages not working, please someone help

okay so so my iMessage says it's working but when I send a text it just says sending even if the message does send, the sending bar won't go away.. But then some of the messages won't send.. I turned my phone off and back on again, my keyboards got reset and my emails aren't working, they keep disappearing and when I go on to my mail it closes down. I have 90 unread emails, but it keeps erasing and re downloading them again so my phone will randomly start vibrating loads. I don't know what's going on, can anyone help?

need more details, such as, how and when did this start happening.
What do you mean that your "keyboards got reset" ?
Was the phone working OK before ?  What changed ?
Just guessing, I would be inclined to have you wait a while and let the phone finish downloading or whatever it's doing, because it sounds like your phone is very busy doing several things at once.
    1) double click the bottom button and kill all the running programs by flicking them up and away.
    2) Reboot the phone.
    3) Make sure you have a good wi-fi connection and the router isn't bogged down with other users.

  • How do I restrict access to messaging and mail

I want to restrict access to mail and messaging for security reasons, but these don't seem to be options in the restrictions menu.
If this option is not available, when is it planned to be implemented? Or how do I make this a feature request.
I don't quite understand why I'd want to restrict someone from using youtube or the camera, yet give them full access to all my personal email and messages.

I don't quite understand why I'd want to restrict someone from using youtube or the camera, yet give them full access to all my personal email and messages.
I don't know what Apple thinks, but I've always assumed the restrictions are for the situation where a parent buys a teenager their own phone, and wants to restrict data use or time spent on the web. They are not security restrictions. Many people who let kids play with their phone want more flexibility in restrictions.

  • Can't open file://-URLs (Links) in Mail or Messages. Adium works. What is wrong?

Hi, in our office, we send links to documents on our server with file://-URLs. In Yosemite (Mail and Messages) it is no longer possible to open these links via the services menu (open URL). Adium works. Do I have to change something in my Yosemite-Configuration? Thanks for helping. Best regards Michael

Apple broke the way Mail handles afp:// URL links in Mavericks and has finished breaking Mail in Yosemite by breaking file:// URL links as well.
AFP urls in Mavericks are mounting as volumes

  • Iphone6/ios8 not sending photos via mail or messages

I can't send photos from my iPhone 6. I have tried both Mail and messages. Nothing happens. The Mail window comes up and allows me to fill in the To address, subject etc. I can click on Send but nothing happens. The Photo doesn;t go into the outbox or the sent folder.
The only thing I may be doing differently is I am not using iCloud to store my photos.  Any suggestions? (I already tried resetting my iPhone)

Thanks for the mail forum tip
Yeah, I use the Media Browser in Mail. It's just quicker, more convenient when in iphoto to use that function.
Will post on the Mail Forum now, hope that helps . . .
    Thanks again,

After upgrading to Lion, I went to open Mail and received the message that it needed to upgrade my Mail database - this may take a few minutes. The bar shows it is about 1/5 along and has been there for over 10 hours.
I tried quitting and starting again but it just jumps back to the same spot.

It is quite large, but I have tried two of the fixes suggested and things now seem to be moving along.
(I was unable to seach properly before which is why I posted the question - it was a bit of a panic)

  • Mail "New Message" window retreats to background after drag and drop attachment from Finder to Mail "New Message", click, and Finder window stays in foreground even when not in focus

Hi, I'm surprised I can't quickly find if anyone else is having this issue. For me it has been going on since Lion on my 13" MacBook Pro 2011 and it's still persisting in Mavericks, and even still now that I've "downgraded" to a 15" MacBook Pro 2010 with Mavericks.  The behavior is odd and difficult to explain concisely. Basically, when I want to add an attachment to Mail, I'll Cmd+Tab over to Finder click and drag and Cmd+Tab back to Mail, and drop the attachment. At first it looks fine, but when I click in the New Message window where I just dropped the attachment, to move the cursor, it retreats to the background and the Mail Main Window comes to the foreground. Then, if I click on that, the Finder window that I just used comes to the foreground. Sometimes if I switched to another app before going to Finder to select the drag and drop, that other app window will appear in the foreground instead. If I click on the other app window that is now in the foreground, then the Finder window that was last used will come to the foreground. The only thing that seems to fix this switch-a-roo effect is Cmd+Tab-ing back and forth a few times, or click on the window "frame" at the top to move the window around.
The way to prevent this is to have my Mail Message window visible in the foreground side by side with the Finder window when the drag and drop occurs (this is a tedious extra step if mulitple windows are open, or to use the add attachment command in the menu within Mail. But it sure is annoying buggy behavior.
    Thanks
    Daniel

Yep, I get exactly the same thing when using Thunderbird mail client on my 2011 iMac running Lion. I've been putting up with it for at least a year, maybe longer.
For me it appeared to start after a Thunderbird update, so I figured that was the cause and couldn't find a solution at the time. However I've now noticed it starting to happen in Apple Motion 4 when dragging files from Finder into a DropZone in my animations. Motion remains the active program but the Finder window sits on top until I Cmd-tab out to a third open program (ie not Finder) and back to Motion again.
This is the first indicator I've had that it's an OS X issue.
Be great to find a solution as D&D is by far my preferred way of adding attachments to emails and similar tasks.
