HT201317 Missing photos from backup?

I lost my iphone and have just got a replacement. However, when I chose to restore the most recent back up, some of my photos did not download. where can i find the rest of my pictures? I am worried they were not saved!

If the last backup was done, before pictures were taken - they will not be inside.
If it was done after, you just have to wait until restore is complete.

How did you use this backup drive? Was this a Time Machine backup, or just an external drive to which you copied files?
I assume your photos were in iPhoto.  If you're just talking a bunch of JPEG files you can just drag them wherever you like, otherwise:

I think you have to tell us more. Please tell us exactly how the backup was created, exactly what you are trying to do, and what happens (including any error messages).

  • Missing Photos from my Iphoto library, Please Help!

#1 Woke up yesterday and noticed there are many pictures missing from my Iphoto library.
#2 The folders are still there but there are NO picture in some of them EVEN though my total picture count remains the same. About 25k pics.
#3 I do a google and some forums suggest "rebuilding" the photo album THROUGH my Iphoto Photo Library.
#4 I go ahead and start the rebuilding process which seems conceivably at the rate its going, it might take maybe a full day or more!!
#5 My laptop FREEZES for some mucked up reason at about 5500 photos rebuilt so far. I am forced to force quit Iphoto and RESTART the whole process.
#6 Now during the "rebuild" process. The process stops at and ONLY recognizes up to the 5500 photos.
#7 Now my library ONLY says 5500 photos instead of the 25k
#8 All of my photo FOLDERS still remain.
#9 A little tidbit, I don't know why but my external 2tb hd is somehow connected to my Iphoto, where if my EX HD is not connected I will be missing many photos from my mac laptop Iphoto Library while disconnected.
#10 2 things, I have not backed up my library since Dec 2010, BUT i also have added very little photo since then.
PLEASE HELP ME KIND MAC PEOPLE, What can I do? Where have all my photos in my library gone? Why will it only rebuild now only to 5500 photos. Please shoot my some ideas and help if you can. Thank you very much for your kind advice and help! Humbly "Devastated" for these photos are work and family irreplacable :[

It is unlikely that your problem is a corruped preference file - the correction for that is
A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.
It is likely that you have a corrupted library - and backups are NOT just to protect against hardware failures
Note - things fail - software - computers - people - and if you do NOT always have a current backup you will lose all of your photos and other data sooner or later
And the managed library has NOTHING to do with the library you have selected - it has to do with iPhoto preferences you have selected -
Were the "missing" photos only missing when the EHD was no tavailable as you implied?
and do you have a default "managed" library (the iPhoto preference to "copy imported items to the iPhoto library is in its checked state) or a referenced library - if htat option checked or unchecked?

  • How can I remove large numbers of missing photos from the catalog at one time?

I was frustrated PSE8s slow speed and decided to try anther photo organizing program for a while (Picasa). After a few months I have decided to go back to PSE8 for limited things (tagging and rating) but now I have over 1,000 photos that are "missing".  I am pretty sure that I actually deleted about 90% from my hard drive and the other 10% I moved around or renamed as I started to organize my 29,000 photo catalogue.  I realize this is a user error since I was using another program but rather than try to remove each of these 1,000 files manually from PSE, is there a way to search for "all missing files" and remove them from the catalogue? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I searched myself for a long time and could not yet find a "select multiple and delete" function to delete from the camera roll.
The quick and dirty way way would be to connect your iPad by USB to your computer. It will be seen as a camera by Image Capture or iPhoto or Aperture, if you have it. Then select the photos you want to delete from the iPad and import them to your Computer (you can delete them immediately afterwards again) and enable the flag "Delete from camera after importing".
This will erase all imported photos from the camera roll at once, Only I hesitate to recommend that, because it is usually safer to let the camera erase the card, for each device knows its filesystem best.

  • Extracting photos from backup of iPhoto Library without iPhoto

I recently had to do a clean install of Mac OS X 10.7.5 because I had some funky file structures in my hard drive that were rendering my 8 year old Macbook unusable. I have a full Time Machine backup on an external hard drive and had to drag and drop what I wanted from the backup over to the cleaned hard drive as opposed to doing an automated restore (because I didn't want to restore the funky file structures that had screwed up my mac in the first place). So now I have everything I want back on the cleaned Mac except iPhoto won't open after being copied over from the backup. Fine - I didn't really care for iPhoto anyway so I don't want to buy it. Now I am trying to extract the photos from my backed up iPhoto library to get them on the Mac in plain old folders. I right click the library, select show package contents, select "originals" and then try to copy that folder to my cleaned hard drive - I get an error that I do not have sufficient permissions to do that. Same thing with any folder level.
I have tried iPhoto Library Manager - but that needs a working iPhoto application...
How can I get these photos out of this back up library without having to copy each one individually???? It's driving me nuts. grr.

  • How to transfer photos from backup of one iphone to a different iphone.

I have a iphone5 that was water damaged. It turns on and has display but it does not respond to Swipe in order to unlock the phone: basically useless.  I did have a back up to desktop (Windows 7) a few weeks ago. I got a new iphone 5.  Contacts were restored from iCloud but I cannot figure out how to transfer the photos from the old phone’s backup onto the new phone. Is this possible to do?  Thank you.

  • How do I retrieve deleted photos from backup?

I accidentally deleted photos from camera roll, but the last time i backed up my phone was before they were deleted so they should be there but I dont know how to get them back. My phone backs up when I plug it into the wall, so i havent backed it up to my pc. Thanks.

The backup contains the camera roll by default.  To restore it, you have to start by erasing the phone.  If you have any newer photos that you want to save, you'll have to do that first (see iOS: Import personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer).  This explains how to restore the backup: iCloud: Restore your iOS device from iCloud.

  • Can't Access photos from backup

So I need to access my photos from an old backup. Well, my old backup is from iphoto, and now i have photos and iphoto on my computer. For some reason I cannot access the old photos anymore. How can I get those photos back?
I went into my backups, and clicked on the iphoto library (annotated in picture)
So there's no other library to choose from.. How can I get my old photos back? Even if I can access the files from within the back up and I can export them somehow, that would be a great solution. I just want to transfer them over to my hard drive. I just want the photos.

You have to restore the library before you can open it.

  • Missing photos from album, Missing photos from album

I have spent hours and hours sorting out my library into albums. iPhoto froze and I had to reboot. When it came back on it had lost some of the photos from the albums I was working on. As I was sorting the photos I was flagging them so that I would know where I was up to in my vast library. All the photos are still in the library and are still flagged. So it makes no sense to me and I am totally frustrated at having lost hours of work. I have no way of knowing now which photos have been dropped from any one album and will have to unflag the whole library and start again. For example I know one album had over 80 photos sorted into it, now it has 33. Has this happened to anyone else or does anyone know if I can somehow restore the albums.

I have so far flagged 1806 photos which means i should have 1806 photos across the albums but i have 1938 in the albums now)
There may be now a few photos appearing in more than one album - a photo can appear in more than one album.
But I am glad you could restore your albums.
If you are working for a long time on a project, you might consider to quit iPhoto occasionally, to force it to save the databases.
iPhoto froze and I had to reboot.
Do you know, why iPhoto froze? Have you installed new software lately or upgraded software?
Are you perhaps running low on disk space? Make sure, you have plenty of free disk space; don't let it drop below 20GB, or the operating system will have problems and gradually slow down. Ultimately this can cause system crashes and data loss.

  • Missing photos from camera app

I downloaded photos from the Apple card reader for iPad. The photos were on 2 different memory cards. The pics from one card don't show up on the camera roll in the Apple camera app. But they do show up on other apps on the iPad. Any guesses as to where I could look for them?

    Found them!

  • Missing photos from Ipod, how to get them back?

I have just bought Mac Book. My old computer Ibook G4 crashed and all my photos were only on the Ipod I had. I wanted to transfer them from the Ipod to the my new Mac Book.
Unfortunately I only see my music but it is showing me 0 photos. Before connecting the Ipod the pictures were there.
After I connect my Ipod for first time the very first massage was that there is a new software for my Ipod would you like it to install I clicked NO. I didn't see the photos then I updated it and again is the same.
Is there a way to retrive my photos from the Ipod and put them on my Mac Book?
    I would appreciate any help.

It's a 20 buck solution, but if you really need those pictures it's definitely worth them.
