HT201318 Why is an iCloud re-upgrade billed immediately?

For example, I upgraded to 10GB additional storage ($20/yr) in November of 2011 and now (August 2012) I'm upgrading to 20GB additional ($40/yr). The app says I will be charged immediately, which I'm assuming will be the full $40.
Shouldn't I only be charged the difference between the two upgrade costs, until my renewal in November? Essentially I'm loosing part of the first year I paid $20 for. Thanks.

If your contacts are not syncing with any external service, meaning that the contacts only exist on the iPhone, you may be able to take advantage of a particular iOS backup limitation. Your backup does not contain all of your contacts*, so if you restore your iPhone and reload your backup, that may skim off the contacts that were loaded, but that of course may contacts that you want to leave on the iPhone. You should use some sort of external contact manager eventually.
*Apple is not entirely clear about local contacts and backups, and there is some disagreement among users here. The article below states:
Your contacts are part of the backup to preserve recent calls and favorites lists. To avoid any potential contact data loss, back up your contacts to a supported personal information manager (PIM) or another cloud-based service (such as Gmail or Microsoft Exchange).

You can cancel an iCloud storage upgrade but only within 15 days of buying:
Apple seem to have made this as difficult as possible. You may be able to do this using http://expresslane.apple.com - Click on 'More products and services', then 'iCloud', 'Account and setup' then 'This topic is not listed'. Explain the situation in the box provided and wait for a response - include a phone number. However you may find you cannot proceed without entering a hardware serial number which is still eligible for AppleCare.
In that event you will need to phone them directly, using the Apple Online Store number given at the bottom of this page. The first person you speak to may tell you to do it from the iCloud website but this is not possible. Politely insist on escalating the issue to a more senior person and eventually you should be able to get through to someone who can deal with this (you may have to wait for them to call you back) - you will be asked security questions and for part of your credit card number to identify yourself.
If it is more than 15 days since you purchased the storage you cannot cancel it for a refund; you can downgrade your plan as from your next renewal date. Please see

I need to cancel the iCloud storage Upgrade I in paid for in last 24hrs. Is there an automated means to do so? I have already attempted to used the 'manage iCloud storage' function. I couldn't cancel the current upgrade minutes after doing so and only managed to downgrade after the expiry period next year (which does not really achieve the desired aim)

I have exactly the same problem. Apple made is really easy to purchase the upgrade, but do not make it easy to get the refund. I received an email indicating that I could have a refund within 15 days by contacting apple. A link was not provided in the email. I exhaustively searched for a contact but could not get it. There was all kinds of runarounds. I called my local Apple Store and they scheduled a call to come into my phone tomorrow night to get the refund. It is a $20 refund. I think they just want people to give up so they get the money. Will let you know if it works.

iCloud backs up your iOS device (not your Mac) automatically. You can remove the backup:

and it will not back up again. This will not affect a backup made using iTunes. The notice you see refers to calendars, contacts, iWork documents and so on, which live on the server and are read from there by your Mac, and so will obviously disappear if you turn iCloud off altogether (which you don't need to do) or turn off Documents (which you don't need to do either).

How to cancel Icloud Drive upgrading

Hi all,
Upgraded to IOS8 this morning but selected the upgrade to ICloud Drive before reading the posts advising otherwise. Is there any way of cancelling this once selected as its draining my battery rapidly constantly trying to upgrade?

Open iCloud for Windows or iCloud Control Panel.
Click Storage if you're using iCloud for Windows. If you're using an earlier version of iCloud Control Panel, click Manage.
Click Change Storage Plan.
Click Downgrade Options.
Enter your Apple ID password, then click Manage.
Choose a different plan to use when your current storage plan expires.
Click Done.

Why won't icloud copy all my contacts in Outlook? Some are backed up and merged some aren't!

I had similar problem. This worked for me, hope it helps:
In Mail
Open Preferences>Accounts
Select Advanced tab for the iCloud account
Set Authentication to 'Apple Token'
The Password field on the Account Info tab should now have disappeared.
Mail no longer asks for password every time it launches.
(now i just have to solve why mail launches an upgrade dialogue every single time it opens and then proceeds to try and re-download about 25,000 emails...)
Why the Authentication method suddenly switched when I upgraded ML to Mav who knows, but it seems incredible that no-one at Apple came across this, it's one of their prime apps.
In fact, since upgrading to Mav I've had numerous system wide problems with my iCloud accounts not connecting properly or stably - what on earth are the thousands of engineers at Apple doing?

Whenever I try to tab my purchased in the update feature of app store; not only does the long list of my previous purchases do not showed up like in IOS 5 do but after a while it just prompt out to the main home page. I tried this for both my 3GS and 4GS too and both have the same problem. APPLE INC please rectify this serious problem as soon as possible.

I've tried both. First, I tried on my pc, where iTunes had installed iCloud when it last updated. I have iTunes installed on this computer (and on my iPad and iPhone), but that wasn't the issue.
So I went online, thinking I needed a separate iCloud Apple ID, but it prompted me for my current Apple ID and gave me the message about my ID being "valid" but not an iCloud account," which, lol, was what it had asked me to do in order to create one. I had to re-install after the newly released iTunes - for Vista it does work with iClud 2 - not 3. You can download from this site.

Keep getting an email that says I need to upgrade to a larger iCloud by september 30, 2013. But I have upgraded already. "Your complimentary iCloud storage upgrade expires on September 30, 2013."

When I go to my icloud settings - it shows that I am on the 20GB plan for $40.
What gives?

If you have purchased additional space that will have over-ridden the complimentary storage you had and will run until renewal a year from when you purchased it. You've received an automated email which hasn't recognized that you have purchased the storage: ignore it.
