HT201320 Can't get to my mailbox

I got a new Iphone 4s.  I set up my mail account and have an icon on the main screen showing that there are new messages.  But when I tap the mail icon, it keeps taking me to the Wecome to Mail screen, as though I need to set up a new account.  How can I make that stop and get to my mail?

Use one of these programs. they copy over almost anything on an ipod. though i dont kno if they will work in your case.

  • Can't get message from mailbox in shell script

I'm using the shell-script workaround for the problem of creating messages from scripts run by a Mail rule. Can't seem to get the syntax right for getting a message passed from the main routine:
    Main
    <pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #222; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:800px">using terms from application "Mail"
on perform mail action with messages theMessages
    repeat with eachMessage in theMessages
set theID to id of eachMessage
set theBox to name of mailbox of eachMessage
    set theAccount to "none"
    try
set theAccount to name of account of mailbox of eachMessage
    end try
    do shell script "osascript Users/dave/Library/Scripts/Applications/Mail/exp.scpt " & theID & " " & theBox & " " & theAccount
    end repeat
end perform mail action with messages
    end using terms from
    using terms from application "Mail"
    on run
tell application "Mail" to set sel to selection
tell me to perform mail action with messages (sel)
    end run
    end using terms from</pre>
    Shell
    <pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #222; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:800px">on run TheArgs
    using terms from application "Mail"
set theID to item 1 of TheArgs
set theBox to item 2 of TheArgs
set theAccount to item 3 of TheArgs
    if theAccount = "none" then
set theMessage to (message of mailbox theBox) whose id is (theID as integer)
    else
set theMessage to (message of mailbox theBox of account theAccount) whose id is (theID as integer)
    end if</pre>
The conditional is so I can test by selecting messages from either my Inbox or other boxes. Either way, though I get runtime errors like: "Can’t get «class mssg» of «class mbxp» \"INBOX\" of «class mact» \"David\" whose id of it = \"19111\". (-1728)"
I've tried variations, but nothing seems to work.
BTW, how does one view events or results in a shell script? Neither its window nor the main routine's show anything, and even "log" statements in the shell seem to go nowhere.

I think I understand what's going wrong. If I select a message in my Inbox, the shell statement
<pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #222; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:800px">set theMessage to (message 1 of mailbox theBox of account theAccount) whose id is (theID as integer)</pre>
works. If I select a message from an On My Mac box, though, I can't get theAccount in Main in the first place because there's no account associated with those boxes. That's why I set up the "try" in Main and the conditional in the shell. I see now that
    <pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #222; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:800px">set theBox to name of mailbox of eachMessage</pre>
in Main yields only the name of the box -- any containers it may have are omitted. Therefore,
<pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #222; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:800px">set theMessage to (message 1 of mailbox theBox) whose id is (theID as integer)</pre>
fails if there are any containers. So, I need a "set theBox" statement in Main that produces a proper path to the message, regardless of where it's located. If I can formulate that, a single "set theMessage" in the shell will suffice, without having worry about whether there's an account. I've experimented with "path to" and will continue casting about, but if the solution is apparent to you, please let me know.
BTW: Echo was a worthwhile "little diversion" for me, because it's led me to a better understanding of what "do shell script" does (i.e., it executes a UNIX command as if it was typed into Terminal) and why it solves the message-creation problem (i.e., it runs the named script as a process that's separate from Mail). I suppose that was obvious to you and many others, but it wasn't to me, despite reading what the AS Language Guide says about it, plus a few Google hits for "osascript." So thank you for that.
One thing I don't understand, though: If I change the command to "echo $1 $2 $3", nothing appears in Terminal. (I can produce files the way you showed just fine.)

  • After downloading OSX Mavericks, my AOL mailbox has disappeared and all the AOL messages get dumped into the inbox along with the gmail messages. How can I get the AOL mailbox back?

After downloading OSX Mavericks, my AOL mailbox has disappeared and all AOL messages have been lumped in the inbox along with my gmail messages. What do I have to do to get my AOL mailbox back?

Linking AOL and gmail?  I don't know what that means.  But if it means what I think it does - that you have the AOL and gmail servers chatting directly with each other through some configuration, I'd definitely disable that.
In general, the messages either aren't deleted, or aren't correctly deleted, or there's a protocol or network error, or some sort of a mail server error.
First diagnostic is a mailbox repair.  Mail.app > Mailbox > Rebuild
Then verify that the credentials are correct and the connection is reliable:
    Mail.app > Window > Connection Doctor
And yes, if you have gmail and AOL chatting directly with each other, undo that.

  • Can't get OWA working at all!

I installed Microsoft Exchange 2013 on to a server and then I added all the users from the directory.. local login worked flawlessly. Then I try to get on OWA and this is where trouble begins...
At first, it was giving me 403 errors until I put in the remote url (somethinghere.ddns.net) then it let me on the login page.
Then I turned Windows Authentication on for both Exchange backend and default website, both had an owa directory.ot
I did that and it the page got stuck on "Waiting for remote server". I then disabled Windows Authentication and enabled Anonymous Login and it now goes to a blank screen.
All I wanna do is check email, not mess with settings all day. I have the IIS panel on my remote desktop connection and will provide details and screenshots at request.

I can't even remove exchange server because it can't get to the mailboxes..
So I am going to have to do without exchange because all I wanted to do was get access to my mail remotely, how dare I!

  • I have a macbook pro version 10.7.5 and my mailbox will not open at all and comes up with a quit message even though it is not open. how can i get into my account. it works on my iPhone an i have internet and all other functions working on my computer

I have a macbook pro version 10.7.5 and my mailbox will not open at all and comes up with a quit message even though it is not open. how can i get into my account. it works on my iPhone and i have internet and all other functions working on my computer

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports (not "Diagnostic and Usage Messages") for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot. I know the report is long. Please post all of it anyway.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • In Mail, one mailbox for Recovered Message (AOL) keeps showing 1 very large message that I cannot delete. How can I get rid of this recurring problem, please?

In Mail on iMac, successfully running OS X Lion, one mailbox on My Mac for "Recovered Messages (from AOL)" keeps showing 1 very large message (more than 20 Mb) that I just cannot seem to delete. Each time I go into my In Box, the "loading" symbol spins and the message appears in the "Recovered Messages" mailbox. How can I get rid of this recurrent file, please?
At the same time, I'm not receviving any new mails in my In Box, although, if I look at the same account on my MacBook Pro, I can indeed see the incoming mails (but on that machine I do not have the "recovery" problem).
The help of a clear-thinking Apple fan would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks.

    I worked it out.
Unhide your hidden files ( I used a widget from http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/developer/hiddenfiles.html)
    Go to your HD.
    Go to Users.
    Go to your House (home)
there should be a hidden Library folder there (it will be transparent)
Go to Mail in this folder
The next folder ( for me ) is V2
Click on that and the next one will be a whole list of your mail servers, and one folder called Mailboxes
Click on that and there should be a folder called recovered messages (server) . mbox
Click on that there a random numbered/lettered folder -> data
In that data folder is a list of random numbered folders (i.e a folder called 2, one called 9 etc) and in EACH of these, another numbered folder, and then a folder called messages.
In the messages folder delete all of the ebmx (I think that's what they were from memory, sorry I forgot as I already deleted my trash after my golden moment).
This was GOLDEN for me. Reason being, when I went to delete my "recovered file" in mail, it would give me an error message " cannot delete 2500 files". I knew it was only 1 file so this was weird. Why 2500 files? Because if you click on the ebmx files like I did, hey presto, it turned out that they were ALL THE SAME MESSAGE = 2500 times. In each of those folders in the random numbers, in their related message folder.
Now remember - DONT delete the folder, make sure you have gone to the message folder, found all those pesky ebmx files and deleted THOSE, not the folder.
It worked for me. No restarting or anything. And recovered file. GONE.
Started receiving and syncing mail again. Woohoo.
    Best wishes.

  • How can I get my bookmarks and mailboxes off my old iBook G4 that crashed?

My OS crashed. I reinstalled it, but still could not access anything. I took the computer to a repair person. He created a new account and retrieved everything I had on my desktop, but not my mailboxes or bookmarks. He said there is a way to do that, but it would be very expensive for me to have him do it. He said I could come here and find out. So here I am.
I can get online and to the desktop of this new account, but that's all. How can I get that stuff? I need it very badly.......
It was an iBook G4 14" with 10.4.11.
    Thanks!

Here is what macjack has offered:

I always have trouble with my mailbox. It is always asking for my passwords but everything has been verified. How can I get it to stop doing it and start working????

There is only one thing that happens -- the Server does not respond.
Your mac concludes that you must have entered the wrong password. That may happen once, but then other issues become more likely, and it keeps asking for a new password.
Sometimes the Server is down for maintenance. Sometimes something is configured wrong. Some services do this on purpose to get you to use WebMail (pick up your Mail with your Browser) so they can show you some ads.

  • Why can't I delete added mailboxes on my iPad mini since iOS 8 update? Every time I try to delete an old mailbox that I added it boots me right out of mIl completely. I want to clean up and get rid of old unused mailboxes?

why can't I delete added mailboxes on my iPad mini after the ios8 update?

The mail app is crashing on you for some reason. Close the mail app and reset your iPad.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that doesn't help, you can also try resetting all settings. You will not lose any data, but most of the device settings will have to be entered in the settings app again. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settings.
