cannot send mail, username or password is incorrect,  but it is not incorrect!!! help

When does the message appear?  Is it when you are in the email client?  If so, go to Settings>icloud and be sure you are logged into the right icloud account.
Go to Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars - and in the Mail section, be sure your email account is defined.  If it is, try deleting it and setting it up again.

My bellsouth.net email was hacked. I was unable to access it on my iphone. "Cannot get mail the username or password is incorrect". I called bellsouth and had my password changed. The email account works on att website and windows live mail. Even after changing the password in settings on the iphone, I still get the same error message.

    Hello Cruise2013,
Being able to to send and receive email is definitely an important feature of the iPhone.  Here are some steps that may help:
If you are unable to send or receive email, try the following steps:
    Restart the iOS device.
Tap Safari and attempt to load a webpage to ensure that the device has Internet access. If you're unable to load a webpage, try the Wi-Fi assistant.
    Try an alternative Internet connection.
If your email is provided by your Internet provider, try connecting from the home network.
If your iOS device has an active cellular data plan, try to disable Wi-Fi:  Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn off Wi-Fi.
If not, try a different Wi-Fi network.
Log in to your email provider's website to ensure that the account is active and the password is correct.
Delete the account from Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and then add the email account again on the iOS device.
If you're still unable to send or receive email, contact your email provider and verify the account settings are correct. You will need to gather this information (PDF).
You can find the full article here:
iOS: Unable to send or receive email
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3899
The article ends with gaining information from your Email Provider.  I understand you are entering your correct username and password into the iPhone settings, but they may have adjusted some of the other settings.
I hope this helps get you back on track!
    Best,
    Sheila M.

  • I cannot receive mail and I get a message saying cannot get mail, username or password is incorrect.

I cannot receive and send mail. A message appears with username or password incorrect. I have checked these and they are correct.

Delete the account, do a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank power On again in the normal way.] It is absolutely/appsolutely safe! And then renter the username etc.

  • HT201320 CANNOT SEND MAIL

I reset my Comcast password today.  As a result, I am able to receive email but am unable to send email on my iPhone and iPad.  I receive the following message. Cannot Send Mail.  The user name or password for SMTP. etc. is incorrect.  I went into Settings, Deleted my Account, and readded it, but still receive the same error message.  Help.

Thanks for the quick response.  I input my new password in the outgoing mailserver (SMTP) however I'm still unable to send messages.

  • Cannot Get Mail Username or Password incorrect even if info are correct

I have a Gmail account witch use to work on previous iPhone system (1.X). Now that I upgrade to (2.x) the mail app seems to be completely crazy. It tells me that my information are incorrect (password or username). I reset my email account probably 20 times, reset network preference 20 times even changed password in my gmail account. I tried to set my email account with POP protocol or IMAP protocol but nothing works. I've been googling for maybe a day and try many possibilities that you can find on internet.
    for example:
create new email account: NO SUCESS.
    change Gmail password: NO SUCESS.
    Restore iPhone: NO SUCESS.
Restore network setting (iphone): NO SUCESS.
set up with POP or IMAP: NO SUCESS.
Initially sync mail settings from computer in iTunes: NO SUCESS
Manually enter the mail account settings directly on iPhone: NO SUCESS
Deleting and then manually recreating your account on your iPhone: NO SUCESS
    What to do????
P.S: I have a Yahoo email too I can receive email but can't send anyone.
Gmail or Apple has to wake up.

Hi Claye, you might try navigating to the SMTP settings for your GMail account
and manually re-enter the account;'s username and password in for the
    smtp.gmail.com Server.
Folks who have done that today have reported success in getting their GMail
    to send properly.
While you are at it, you might also turn ON the AT&T SMTP Server shown at the very
bottom of the Secondary Servers list on your iPhone. It is OFF by default and often
helps in areas where you switch networks frequently.

  • I cannot receive mail and the password is incorrect. I know my password, but it suddenly doesn't work anymore.I 'removed' all passwords. Still doesn't work.

I am totally frustrated with Thunderbird. All I want to do is send and receive email, but I always run into problems. This time I cannot send or receive emails because the password is incorrect. I haven't changed my passwords so why is this happening? I removed all passwords to my emails and Thunderbird still asks me for my password. I enter in nothing or my old password and still nothing. Please advise.

has your provider webmail? Try the passwort there. Maybe you have been locked out because you entered the wrong password too many times.
Maybe you are using the wrong username.
check if your e-mail provider has a step by step manual on how to setup an account with Thunderbird.

  • Suddenly, my droid razr says my yahoo mail username or password is incorrect.

This marks the third or fourth time this has done this. I used the mail before bed last nite, then I see a notification light a few hours later, look and it was a triangle error. Checked this morning and same issue. I've had this happen before where it suddenly "forgets" the username and/or password. I have 6 email accounts. 3yahoo, 2gmail, & 1 private. All other accounts work fine. I've checked my mail just fine with my iPad and computer simultaneously. I used to think it was a phone ing, but so many people are having the same with different phones. I haven't seen a solution yet. I've tried various manual settings. Don't think it's Verizon. Could be a combo of Verizon and android, during some cycle or server communication between the two. The first time it happened, I thought I had been hacked, now I know this is not the case. Anyone have any thoughts?
    Solution:
The only one vie found so far is to change the password. This worked for me as I could access the account from other sources.

        Hi Erpitt!
Let's get your email up and running correctly and without error messages. I know how important it is for me to get my emails in a timely manner, and I know how frustrating it is if this doesn't happen. I have some troubleshooting steps from you that other customers have found resolves the issue:
Manually set up the account by opening the email app and Menu / New Account / Other (Pop/Imap) and use the settings below...
    •Incoming Server – imap.mail.yahoo.com
    •Outgoing Server – smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    •Incoming Port – 993 (requires SSL)
    •Outgoing Port – 465 (requires SSL)
•Username: full email address ([email protected])
•Password: is the password you login to Yahoo! with the correct mail address.
Give this a go and let me know how it works out for you!
    Thank you,

  • Cannot Send Mail/Password Problems

Whenever I open my primary e-mail account I get a message saying it cannot send mail because no password is provided for the account. (I can receive e-mails on this account, and can send and receive e-mails on my other accounts) I have tried re-entering my password and changing my password and neither have worked.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

The provider for my primary account is digis. And as far as I know everything is correct, I've been able to send e-mails on this account for the last year, it has only been the last month or so that I have been getting this error.
    Thank you for your help!

  • TS3899 Cannot send mail. Says my password and or login is incorrect

I set up my email and can receive mail but cannot send mail. It says either my login or password is incorrect but they are.not

Sending of mail is handled by the SMTP server. When setting up mail, there are a couple of positions in the setup process that say that the username and password are optional. Usually however, they are not. Go back to the settings for the SMTP server and ensure that your username and password are entered for each section, and check with your provider to see if SSL or other settings need to be on or off.

  • We purchased a new iPad2 and registered it using a 'new' iCloud email/ID. We are unable to send email from the iPad and iPhone. The error is: Cannot send mail. The user name or password for iCloud is incorrect.

About ~20 hours later, this ended up solving itself. We can send email using the '.icloud' email from both the iPad and iPhone.  Advise would be 'wait' before you start seeking alteranatives like yahoo, hotmail, etc.  This definitely is a convenient way to keep all your 'cloud' information in a centralized place, including the common email...

  • TS3276 Cannot send mail from my iPad...."user name and or password is incorrect"......mail can be sent from my iPhone

Why do I get the message   "Cannot send mail, the user name and or password for my email outgoing server is incorrect"?  I use the same account, etc. on my iPhone and haven't any trouble sending mail.

If your email requires a password for the SMTP server you can set it up in the settings in the General mail setup. Some i.e Gmail require a password for SMTP.
Otherwise you will probably get better answers in the iPad forum.

Problem: Cannot send mail unless Password is transmitted insecurely & Port is set to 587.. Can receive mail but can't send Code 501..
Need help with T-bird.. My OS is Win XP-64..Have been using Mozilla for about 10 years with little or no problems.. This happened when I upgraded to 3.17.. Spent hours on T-Bird diagnostics web site.. Called Comcast & talked to a net tech.. he ran some tests on his end & had me log into my Comcast e-mail account & all worked well,, so he concluded the problem was in T-Bird.. He had me change my port to 587 & disable connection security & authentication to none & I was able to send mail.. That was all he could do.. Comcast was working.. the problem is in T-Bird.. Can any one help with this problem.. I don't want to send mail with my password transmitted insecurely..
    Thanks
    Richard

It was not intended to be "snide". You said two separate things that at face value would be out of the ordinary.
I considered if it might be a typo for 31.7. Since 31.5 is the current formal release, I would have to thank you for volunteering to test a pre-release beta version. If it was truly 3.1.7 then it would appear that you have chosen, or have become stuck with a somewhat ancient version. In either case it's harder to reach out to you with any meaningful comments or advice. However I do watch various other sites and newsgroups and I don't see a clamour of distressed users, so it seems fair to suppose that this feature isn't actually broken in 31.7.
And you said XP 64. XP is obsolete and no longer supported and if there is a 64-bit version, then again you have set yourself apart from the mainstream.
I had a look at the comcast site and found some puzzling recommendations. Some users come here asking how to set up a secured connection in Thunderbird when it isn't offered by the server. Comcast are different, in that they mention the ports 143 and 587, and also 993 and 465. So far so good, in that security is actually on offer, but they also suggest that you enable SSL, regardless of which port is being used. It would be unusual and unconventional to offer TLS or SSL on ports 143 and 587. STARTTLS would be more credible on these ports.
Have you tried IMAP on 993 and SMTP on 465? SMTP on 587 with SSL, or TLS, is not impossible, but is improbable.
