  • Connecting to Mac Server is Timing Out on Authentication

We are a part of a Active Directory network. Our Mac server is mainly used for getting people to their home directories.
Our server can be pinged by its IP or by it's domain name. It can be accessed through ARD and everything, but users are not able to authenticate to it right now. One day this worked fine, the next day it stopped working.
During the boot process, most computers are just hanging at the login screen after they type in their user id and password. The only way around that is for them to type in their username and password with the network cable unplugged (because they have portable home directories).
The best example of this problem I can give is that if I do a command K, or Connect to Server and type in the IP or name of the server, I will be given an authentication window. I can connect as a guest or a registered user. If I do a registered user like we always have, and type in my info, it will sit there for minutes before saying "Connection Failed (unknown user, incorrect password, or login is disabled.)"
If I would instead connect as a Guest instead of a registered user, I can get in right away.
Most systems are at 10.4.2, some are 10.4.3. The server is 10.4.3.
    Any suggestions?

  • The connection to the server "X" on port 143 timed out.

My Mac is running MacOS X 10.6.2,
    and Mail 4.2 .
I'm using Mail from my work connexion and it is running without problem.
Today I use it from home connexion and Mail doesn't synchronize any of
my E-mail accounts. I get the following error message:<pre>The server returned the error: The connection to the server “imap.free.fr” on port 143 timed out.</pre>
    I tested the said server (from a Terminal window):<pre>telnet imap.free.fr 143
    Trying 212.27.48.2...
    Connected to imap.free.fr.
    Escape character is '^]'.
    * OK [CAPABILITY IMAP4REV1 X-NETSCAPE LOGIN-REFERRALS AUTH=LOGIN] IMAP4rev1 Free</pre>
and it is replying perfectly correctly.
I also tested my accounts synchronization with Thunderbird (of course
with the same home connexion), and it is working without a trouble.
Hence there isn't any problem with my Mac, my connexion, my imap server,
    my account.
But something is deeply corrupted within Mail.
How may I analyze this serious bug (the application is totally unusable)?
How may I turn Mail in a debug mode to provide any kind of trace so as to
    make a usable bug report?

  • Yosemite Mail Connections to the server on the default ports timed out.

I have upgraded two machines to Yosemite and I am having huge problems with Mail. It works perfectly well with my .mac mail but it does not work with my xServer running OS X server 10.6.something. I have little triangles but the mail account and I get the message "Connections to the server “mailgate.cp-lighting.co.uk” on the default ports timed out."
Any machine running an older version of OS X has no problems connecting.
The machine running Yosemite all have the same problems, they all have the triangle, they all receive mail but if you read it or delete it, it re-appears as unread so I can receive 20 emails read then delete 6 and a few minutes later I have 20 unread emails again.
Worse mail in the outbox get stuck behind a queue so it takes ages to send any mail, if I look at activity viewer I can see processes constantly running "Moving Messages" , "Synchronizing Sent", "Updating Cache directory"[sent] , "changing flags" and finally "Updating Cache directory"[Inbox]
If I go to mail and preferences/accounts I cannot edit the incoming mail server it is greyed out. I wanted to change the domain nane for the ip address of the server to see if that made any difference but it is not possible. I don't understand what Apple have done it is a nightmare.
Is anyone else having these problems?

Yes, my husband has had this problem too with his IMAP email account. He is temporarily using Thunderbird, which is working better, but it is also reporting lost connections. Seems the issue is deeper within the networking or security services of Yosemite than the Mail app itself.

  • The server returned the error: The connection to the server on port 143 timed out.

    Hello,
I recently got a MacBook Pro which cam ewith Mavericks. I have entered the email addresses I use the most, they are a combination of Gmail and personal ones that are set up with two different hosting companies. After a random amount of time which may be 5 minutes after opening Mail up to 8 or 9 hours the mailboxes start giving the error 'The server returned the error: The connection to the server xxxx.xxxx on port 143 timed out.' where xxxx.xxxx is the IMAP incoming mail server, the port is 993 for the Gmail accounts. Once it happens for one the others soon follow. The same accounts on my Mac Pro still work correctly at the same time. Anyone have any ideas?
Edit: I have run the Connection Doctor and while it can connect to each of the SMTP servers it cannot connect to any of the IMAP ones.  A restart of Mail will cure this temporarily.

  • ITunes could not connect to the iTunes store. The network conect timed out

I am having trouble with iTunes,
Message: "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. The network conection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active then try again."
Im not sure when exactlt this happend, it may have been after i downloaded an iTunes update, but I cant be sure. Other than that nothing else has really changed. I have now had this problem for a couple of weeks.
I am running windows Vista (32 bit System)on my HP Laptop and have ADSL and am able to run explorer and all other non-apple software.
I have tried all other advice offerd in the various supports:
    1. re-installed iTunes
    2. Checked all firewall settings - even removed Norton security (currently just operating on windows Visat security and have checked all that)
    3. changed "host" file to "back-host"
    4. played around and tested various internet settings
I hope this information helps to solve the problem. I have also recently found some other information which may be useful:
Although I do not use "safari" as an internet explorer, this does not work on my system either. I have re-installed this to see if it helps but am still unable to connect to the apple store (home page) on safari. I have looked up the support site for safari but have thus far be unable to find any helpful information to solve the problem.
Please help this is very frustrating...

    Hi Affar2k,
According to your description, we need to verify if there is no network issue and the Sqlclient version is older than .NET 4.5.  You can try to connect to the Windows Azure SQL database via SSMS and check if it can run well. When you
connect to the SQL Azure database via ADO.NET, you need to verify that the server name and passwords are right in the connection string.
For more information, you can review the following article about how to connect to Windows Azure SQL Database using ADO.NET.

  • IMAP fine in Mail; "Connection to the Server Failed" on iPhone?

So on my Mac, I have both GMail (works great on iPhone) and an IMAP account for my work's Exchange server set up.
Both accounts work just fine on my Mac; I don't even need to connect to the VPN on my Mac to read Exchange email via IMAP through Mail.
The problem is that the iPhone gives me the "connection to the server failed" whenever I try to connect on either EDGE or wi-fi to read the IMAP Exchange email. The settings in both Mail and the iPhone are identical.
If I turn on the VPN on the iPhone, I get the same message...but at this point, I'm thinking the VPN on the iPhone is worthless.
Can anyone think of a reason why the iPhone can't connect to IMAP even though the laptop can? I'm wracking my brain here trying to figure this out. The purchase of 2 iPhones for other staff to use depends on me getting this up & running! I can tell you that the others will NOT accept "setting up a Yahoo!/GMail account for forwarding. They want their email coming in & responses going out with the company's headers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

This morning, I was able to fully "unlock" and "open" the correct ports (I believe), and now I'm able to receive email from the IMAP Exchange server. According to the IT guy who's helping me, we opened ports 143 and 25 on the ISA server (firewall), and I'm able to receive. Does this sound right to you?
The only problem now is sending. I cannot send any mail through this work account on the iPhone. Mail just "hangs." I can still send/receive just fine on my iBook Mail account for Exchange (IMAP), but no dice on sending.
The Incoming Mail Server and SMTP/outgoing Server addresses are identical. Works fine on the Mac, but not the iPhone. I do believe the 143 port is now fully open...I think.
Am I still missing something? Thanks for your help!

  • The connection to the server on port 993 times out...

When I attempt to delete mail or move mail to my trash I receive the following error message:
"""The message could not be moved to the mailbox “Trash — iCloud”
the connection to the server :p01-map.mailme.com” on port 993 times out"""
I have never seen this before, anyway to correct it?

Regarding the iPhone (5 in my case) it works relatively well with charter.net IMAP and smtp functions at mobile.charter.well.  But does occassionally have sync problems as well.
To fix the problem with my MacBook Pro Mail app, the Apple senior tech could not determine the problem, so he told me to reinstall the app.  To do this I had to run the Archive and Install feature of the recovery disk (hold down cmd-r on reboot).  Of course this two two hours to complete, as well as run software updates.  And it did not fix the sync problem.
So??? This one has me stymied!
Oh, one other input.  The email app "Thunderbird" works perfectly with charter.net IMAP and its smtp, syncs every time!

  • I keep getting a message that I have logged into the server maximum times or server has timed out

I had an upgrade to my system and it changed my logging into the server to every 10 minutes. Can you reset it on your end so I can use my email again. We fixed the logging into the server so that will not happen again. I cannot send or receive emails on Thunderbird and I also get a connection to server has timed out when I try to send an email.
