HT201321 Does anyone have information on MacKeeper?

Both my MacBook Pro and IMac seem to be running really slow...starting up the computer changing applications...pulling things up.  It's just slow.  Is there anything I can do?  This MacKeeper keeps popping up and it says I have a lot of stuff on computer that needs to be cleaned up...don't want to buy if it isn't the problem...Help please

Here is my screen shot...I can't find anything that is high???  Still looking through some of the things Thomas suggested...might be my RAM.
It is too soon to tell if it is a RAM problem. Adding more RAM might improve your performance, but it will not fix problems. According to your screenshot, everything is running fine. You appear to have only Activity Monitor running. It would be better to run Activity Monitor when your machine is running other applications and exhibiting problems.
I see many people jump to the RAM conclusion and focus exclusively on that. They miss the real problems that way. Your machine's slowness is a symptom of a problem. It would be better to track down and eliminate the actual problem instead of just making it a little bit better.

  • Does anyone have experience with MacKeeper?

Has anyone done the interactive 'cleaning' that comes after contacting MacKeeper?  If so, has anything unusual happened afterward?  Do I have any reason to not trust them?

The Apple Store's corrective action, if they were to take any, would be to erase your Mac, reinstall its operating system, and declare it fixed. You can certainly do that yourself.
One recovery procedure follows. Other procedures exist, but this one is likely to require the least amount of your time and interaction. It is exactly what I do with similarly affected systems, it is what an Apple Store would recommend, and it has the advantage of being completely supported by Apple's support documentation.
If you have a backup that you created prior to using MacKeeper, now is the time to use it. For Time Machine, boot OS X Recovery, and at the Mac OS X Utilities screen, choose Restore from Time Machine Backup. Choose a date preceding the installation or use of the subject program.
If you do not have a backup that predates the use of the software responsible for corruption, create one now. To do that read Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac.
The recovery procedure will require that you erase the Mac using OS X Recovery, and then create a new user whose contents will be empty. You will then be able to use Setup Assistant to migrate your essential documents including photos, music, work products and other essential files.
When doing so, select only your previous User account and do not select "Applications", "Computer and Network Settings" or "Other files and folders". De-select those choices.
Subsequent to using Setup Assistant, you will need to reinstall the essential software you may require, once again remembering to install software only from their original sources, and omitting all non-essential software.
"Non-essential software" is a broad category that includes but is not limited to third party "cleaning", "maintenance", and "anti-virus" products.
To erase and install Mavericks read: OS X Mavericks: Erase and reinstall OS X
To migrate your essential documents read: OS X: How to migrate data from another Mac using Mavericks and follow the procedure under Time Machine or other disk migration.

  • Does anyone have information about Fieldglass?

    Hi Mills & Mining Community!
I am looking for use cases for Fieldglass in the Mining industry. I am building a PoV and will appreciate all the help I can get.
    Specifically:
What are the main differentiators between Fieldglass and Ariba regarding procurement? What can Fieldglass do that Ariba can´t?
Is there available information about the average ROI in a Fieldglass deployment?
Which are the business benefits or business outcomes identified in Fieldglass customers? Cost savings? Decrease in permanent workforce? Benefits in compliance?
I understand that Fieldglass is pretty strong in being a Vendor Management System in Mining so if anyone has further information or knows whom should I reach to get it I will appreciate it very much.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Does anyone have information on "Mac Keeper"?

Do any of you know about "Mac Keeper"?

And thank you for asking about it before downloading and installing...as noted by 71 and VP also, we get a load of questions and issues AFTER it has been installed.  Asking first puts you way ahead of the game.
Mac OS X machines have so many builtin safety features that one needs to ask first before jumping into some of these things marketed using scare tactics...good luck and keep taking part in ASC...we are one big family of fellow users.

  • Does anyone have information on controling a gas delivery system?

We have a need to control a process gas both pressure and flow. We know that LabView can probably do this. We were wondering if there were any systems already put together?

    Have a look at
    http://www.bronkhorst.com/
They supply massflow controllers and pressure controllers that can be
controlled by a pc by means of the "Flowbus" (a fieldbus developed by them).
For the Flowbus in turn they can supply a ready to go Labview VI.
    On the other hand
    http://www.voegtlin.com/
supplies massflow & pressure controllers that are set via the MODBUS
protocol. A free MODBUS VI is available reom NI.
Please understand that this are just 2 suppliers in Europe that i know.
Guess there will be a lot more!

  • HT6041 does anyone have information re: motion 5.1 ? the latest security bulletin describes the need for it but neither  " software update: or the "app store"  seems to have it.

I have read and re read this security bulletin and I have checked software update and the " app store" and there is no mention of "motion" or "motion 5.1"

FWIW, here is the Apple troubleshooting note for Motion updates that aren't being offered, and the Apple best practices for Motion and related.   Here are the Mac App Store troubleshooting tips.

  • Does anyone have any info on MacKeeper?

    Hi,
I was prompted to install MacKeeper prior to shutting down last night, but now I'm questioning if this is actually an "Apple" program or is someone trying to phish my system?
Does anyone have any information on this?
    Thank you!

I don't want to get into the thick of this debate, some people on here I respect and trust for judgement, but there is a lot to be said, and not said nicely, about software that pops up on you and declares your computer to be infected witih viruses...as though it could tell when it does not actually have access to your computer.
I believe you are referring to MacDefender, not MacKeeper. It is an honest mistake - one I made myself. Then someone called me on it and I had to re-evaluate the advice I had been given and had accepted unconditionally, without testing it myself. One thing led to another and here I am.
And when some good people like Phil Stokes go to great lengths to devise a procedure to completely remove a program like MacKeeper, and make it available free of charge, it gets my attention.
I suggest giving it more attention. Install MacKeeper and then remove it. Then re-evaluate Phil Stokes' scary-sounding instructions on how to remove MacKeeper cache files and log files.

  • Does anyone have more information on the virus disguised as adobe flashplayer

Does anyone have more information on the virus disguised as adobe flashplayer that was released last Thursday 5 Apr 12.  Can you simply use time machine to reload the entire system from backup to make sure you don't have the virus.

On ninemsn TECH news: It's called flashback trojan
The computer security industry buzzed Thursday with warnings that more than a half-million Macintosh computers may have been infected with a virus targeting Apple machines.
Flashback Trojan malware tailored to slip past "Mac" defenses is a variation on viruses typically aimed at personal computers (PCs) powered by Microsoft's Windows operating systems.
The infections, spotted "in the wild" by Finland-based computer security firm F-Secure and then quantified by Russian anti-virus program vendor Dr. Web, come as hackers increasingly take aim at Apple computers.
"All the stuff the bad guys have learned for doing attacks in the PC world is now starting to transition to the Mac world," McAfee Labs director of threat intelligence Dave Marcus told AFP.
"Mac has said for a long time that they are not vulnerable to PC malware, which is true; they are vulnerable to Mac malware."
Dr. Web determined that more than 600,000 Mac computers may be infected with Flashback, which is designed to let hackers steal potentially valuable information such as passwords or financial account numbers.
Hackers trick Mac users into downloading the virus by disguising it as an update to Adobe Flash video viewing software.
Apple has long boasted that Windows machines are more prone to hacking than Macs.
Computer security specialists contend that the reason for the disparity was that since most of the world's computers were powered by Windows, hackers focused on systems that promised the most prey.
As the popularity of Macs has soared, so has the allure of hacking Apple operating systems, according to Marcus.
"There has been a significant increase in Mac malware in the last several quarters, so what we've seen with the Flashback Trojan isn't particularly surprising," Marcus said.
"Cybercriminals will attack any operating system with valuable information, and as the popularity of Macs increase, so will attacks on the Mac platform."
Computer users, no matter their operating systems of choice, need to protect machines with tactics including up-to-date anti-virus programs and avoiding risky habits such as opening files or clicking links from unknown sources.

  • I've preordered my iPhone 5 from apple and tried to get a sim from o2, they said I couldn't preorder. Does anyone have any information about this?

I've preordered my iPhone 5 from apple and tried to get a sim from o2, they said I couldn't preorder. Does anyone have any information about this?

    Ethmoid,
Generally buying on contract or buying outright from apple with a separate sim from a provider is little difference in cost.
Work out the total cost over 24 months for the phone+monthly tarrif and you will see.
Also the contracts where the phone is cheapest but have a higher monthly cost tend to be the ones that cost you move over a 24 month period.
    For example;
    Using O2 UK as an example (other carriers are very similar). For the iPhone 5 64GB;
From Apple £699, plus O2 On & On £20 per month is £1179
From O2, Phone £249, per month, £41. Total over 24 months is £1,233
From O2, Phone £169, per month, £46. Total over 24 months is £1,273
From O2, Phone £69.99, per month, £63. Total over 24 months is £1,581  <Cheapest phone, most expensive
*These all use the same tarrif of unlimited talk, texts and 1GB data. The only difference is how much you want to pay upfront for the phone*
Also worth noting is buying the phone from apple and the O2 tarrif is only a 12 month tarrif so you're not locked in for 24 months.
As you can see, the cheaper the phone, the more the overall amount you pay.

  • I have a problem mackeeper keep opening up another tab and these little green circle stuff keep popping up on the page and overtime my cursor hover over it it pops up a little box with stuff in it does anyone have an idea how to get rid of it?

i have a problem mackeeper keep opening up another tab and these little green circle stuff keep popping up on the page and overtime my cursor hover over it it pops up a little box with stuff in it does anyone have an idea how to get rid of it?

You installed a variant of the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
This malware has many variants. Anyone else finding this comment should not expect it to be applicable.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.2c232f1e4d12129e.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.2c232f1e4d12129e.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.2c232f1e4d12129e.helper.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
    /Library/Application Support/2c232f1e4d12129e
    /System/Library/Frameworks/v.framework
The trouble may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • My MacBook Pro is running very slow.  I've run repair permissions without positive result.  Does anyone have any ideas?

My MacBook Pro (2010) is runnign very slow.  This came on all of a sudden.  It opens, closes, reboots, etc., all much slower than ever before.  I have used the repair disk permissions without any positive result.  Does anyone have any ideas?

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
Take these steps when you notice the problem.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 2
You must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way as above. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Post the 50 or so most recent messages in the log — the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out before posting.

  • Does anyone have a suggestion for an alternative to iCal that will interface with the Cloud? I find iCal to be poorly designed and not very efficient.

Does anyone have a suggestion for an alternative to iCal that will interface with the Cloud so it works on the iPhone and the Macbook? I find iCal to be poorly designed and not very efficient. I waste a lot of time entering information because you can't go to a specific day and enter information, nor can you navigate between months and add information on a specific date by clicking on the date. You can't easily scroll month-to-month and once you do by scrolling through nine months to get to where you want to be, you cannot enter information by clicking on a specific day in the month and entering information. I just called Apple and they verified that this is the way it works. You cannot go to a date and enter information, you keep getting thrown back to today and then you have to go into the calendar and change it manually on the screen. It is just not efficient.

    APC, CyberPower are reliable.
    Look for 1500VA. As example:
