HT201328 Can I unlock an old, unused iPhone 3GS (to be used overseas with a local simcard) and upload on it data from a newer iPhone 4 on the same MacBook Pro?

Can I unlock an old, unused iPhone 3GS (to be used overseas with a local simcard) and upload on it data from a newer iPhone 4 on the same MacBook Pro?

I got approval to unlock my 3GS from AT&T and in the process of updating the operating system. I am now using a iPhone 4 on my computer. I just want to know the following:
When I backup and restore the 3GS in order to unlock it, will it mess up my existing data backed up from my iPhone 4?
Can I upload data from my newer iPhone 4 onto my 3GS?

  • How to sync two iPhones on to the same MacBook Pro?

I have an iPhone 4 and previously I would sync my phone to my MacBook, but my husband bought me a PC.  So now instead of figuring out how to sync to my PC I would really just like to sync to his Macbook Pro, as I am using that more due to a new job.  How do I do this w/o messing my phone up the first time I sync and then how do I continue to do this without adding all his contact and calendar info into my phone too?  Also I am signing up for MobileMe and have questions about how that works with two iPhones in the house and using the same iTunes account for apps and such (we rarely if ever purchase music).
    Thanks so very much!!!

The easiest least complicated way to keep your info and her info seperate and not worry about things is to take advantage of user profiles on your computer (in XP)...so each of you log into XP with your own accounts, thus iTunes (and any other software like mail, etc) all have your own settings.
Otherwise, you will have to watch which account is logged into iTunes Store (click store and see what name is up top right in case you both have different accounts)...and make sure you are logged in with the right account before syncing. iTunes does know the difference between your phones so each can setup different settings of what to sync to, but your library on your computer will be mixed unless you do what I said first, use different profiles (user logins) for XP.

  • Can I update more than one iPad and iPhone from the same MacBook pro?

Can I update more than one iPad and iPhone to ios 5 from the same MacBook pro? Our family has one MacBook pro and several iphones and ipads.  No one wants to lose their iTunes music or contact list or calendars.

Yes, but you will want to think it through before you do it.
The computer will become the "master" device, holding the definitive collection of music, photos, contacts, etc., and each iPad or iPhone will get a copy of what's on the computer. So if  everyone has different collections of music or photos that you all want to keep separate from each other, you'll want to set up different accounts on the MacBook Pro. To do that, go into "System Preferences" and click "Users", then click the "+" to create a new account for each person who needs their own set of files.
That way you can each log in to your own MacBook account before you sync your iPhone or iPad, and everyone has their own copy of iTunes and their own iPhoto. If you happen to plug in an iPhone while logged into someone else's account, you just click "don't sync" (the 1st time only, it will remember after that). Sharing the same files becomes tricky, so this is only the best method if you want to keep things 100% separate.
On the other hand, if you all have your music and photos mishmashed together on the MacBook anyway or just don't care about keeping things separate, just go ahead and sync your iPhones and iPads without setting up new accounts. But in this case, you should create playlists and photo albums in iTunes and iPhoto. Then plug in an iPhone, click on it's icon in iTunes, and change the settings for Music, Photos, etc to only sync the playlists that you want on that device. Repeat for each one. They'll all remember their own settings, and continue to sync with their designated playlists or albums.
What you cannot do is use more than one computer with a single iPhone. That will wipe out the music and photos that were on it already, replacing them with the ones on the second computer.

Certainly. iTunes has no problem with it.

  • Can you transfer files between two user accounts on the same macbook pro?

Can you transfer files between two user accounts on the same MacBook Pro?
Specifically, I used the Migration Assistant to move music and photos from my old PC to my new MacBook.
Somehow, I missed the fact that it was creating a new user account when it was doing this.  So none of music and photos are in the user account I originally set-up.  Instead, all these files are now in a different account.
I'd like to consolidate all my files on the one user account and delete the other one.
Is this possible and, if so, how do I do it?
    Thank you.

you can crop files from one account to another using the Public Dropbox which every user account has.  Log into the user that has the files you want to move, then drag the folder you want to the new users' dropbox:
I suggest a small scale test on a few files first before moving gigabytes of files.

How can I verify credit for an itunes card that has already been redeemed?  My Grandson and I both redeemed itune cards on our shared account about the same time. There isn't a credit balance after his purchase?

Have you checked the account's purchase history to see if anything could have used up the balance : See your purchase history in the iTunes Store - Apple Support ?
If there aren't any purchases then try logging out and back into the account (e.g. on your iPad tap on your id in Settings > Stores and then log back in) and see if a balance then shows on it. My account's balance shows at the top right of the store's page on my computer's iTunes, by clicking on my name towards the top right of the iTunes screen, and by logging in to view my account via the Store > View Account menu option. On my iPad devices it shows at the bottom of, for example, the Featured tab in the App Store app under my account id (or you can view your account via Settings > Stores and it should show on the screen that you are taken to)

  • Can I reinstall Mountain Lion on the same Macbook Pro?

    Hey All-
New OS X user, fresh from Windows.
I have an OS X 10.8 install dvd that I made after downloading the operating system through the App Store.  On windows, it is necessary to activate a new OS installation each time you reformat the drive-- but supposedly you can install it on up to 3 separate systems and infinitely on those three systems.
Is more or less the same true of OS X 10.8?  Should I be able to reinstall my OS on my macbook for whatever reason however many times I desire?
    Thanks!
    G

If you download Mountain Lion from the App Store then you may install it on as many computers as you own. There is no need for any activation procedure.

  • How do I retrieve the my iCloud data off of my old, unusable iPhone without sacrificing the data off of my current iPhone?

Firstly, I have 2 iCloud accounts, which creates constant confusion (considering I have a third "apple" acct. as well).  I have not found any solutions (even the genius bar has been unhelpful) for this, but my current major issue is with storage space:
I have 2 iPads (first gen and a mini), and HAD 2 iPhones (4s and currently an iPhone5), plus one laptop:
ACCESS the old iPhone data (the phone drowned last month) on iCloud, such as the photos, notes, etc.  This way I get my data (isn't that the point - backup??), and I also free up space to back up my current phone and ipad.
I'm currently way over my max data limit (which is the maximum purchase, btw).
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated at this point . . !
    Cheers,
    DAH

If I understand your question correctly, you want to recover data from an iCloud backup of another device without losing the data that is on your current device.  You could do this by backing up your current device as it is now, either to iCloud or to your computer using iTunes if you don't have space in your iCloud account to back up.  Then restore your device to the backup of your other device to recover the data.  Then save the recovered data to your computer (by, for example, importing the photos as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083, and emailing any recovered notes to yourself, etc.).  Then, when you're done saving the recovered data, restore your device back to the backup you made at the beginning, returning it to the state it was in when you started.
Another option would be to sign into the iCloud account your other device was using on icloud.com and back up some of the data to your computer as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4910.  This would not, however, allow you to access your camera roll photos and other data that is not synced with iCloud.

  • Can I sync two iPhones to the same MacBook Pro?

My wife needs to save all of her photos from her iPhone.  My iPhone has been the only one synced to the MacBook Pro. Can I sync her phone as well???

  • Old visa open, error code 1073807343, using VISA with a GPIB device, and VISA resource names

    Hi everyone,
I'm trying to get a SRS model SR720 LCR meter (manual on this page) working with LabView, connecting it to my PC with an Agilent 82357A GPIB/USB interface (manual on this page). I'm running MAX version 14.0, and NI-VISA version 14.0. I'm running LabView version 13.0f2, 32 bit.
I followed the directions on this page, and I'm pretty confident I can communicate with my LCR meter, because I can go to NI MAX->GPIB0::17::INSTR under "devices and interfaces", then go to the VISA test panel, go to the I/O tab, and I can enter a few commands from the SR720 manual, like changing the frequency, and I see the light on the LCR meter change to what I just told it to do. Here is a picture, just to illustrate it:
Also, if I do the *IDN? command, it returns "
    9: Write Operation (*IDN?)
    Return Count: 5 bytes
    10: Read Operation
    Return Count: 41 bytes
    StanfordResearchSystems,SR720,08087,1.03\n
So, that's good too. I also made the alias of this device "MyLCRmeter", but that shouldn't matter for now.
Now I'm trying to get it to work in a more usable way. The SR7xx drivers that LabView found for me came with a couple sample programs, one called "Getting Started.vi". I tried to just simply see if it worked, changing the "instrument descriptor" field to "GPIB0::17::INSTR", since that's the one that seemed to be the right device in MAX. Here is a picture of the front panel of "Getting Started.vi":
Trying to run it like this gave me this error (code -1073807343):
Old VISA Open in SR715/720 Initialize.vi->SR715/720 Getting Started.vi
Doing a bit of searching on these forums, I found these few threads (1 2 3), which seem to tell me that, since this program was written, the way you open VISA has changed. In the 2nd of those links, one guy said:
You just have to replace the Old VISA Open function with the VISA Open that is on the Instrument I/O>VISA>VISA Advanced palette. When you do that, the wire to the string that was used for the resource name will be broken. Delete the string and make the actual VISA Resource Name visible on the front panel. Wire the VISA Resource Name control to the connector pane where the string control was (upper left connection).
So, I went into the sub-VI Initialize.vi, and did that. Here is a picture of what the front panel and block diagram of the sub-VI Initialize2.vi (I changed the name in case I screwed things up, but I'm pretty sure the new one is the one being called by Getting Started.vi) looked like before I changed anything (you can see the Old VISA Open):
and here it is after replacing that with the regular VISA Open, deleting the instrument descriptor string and replacing it with a VISA resource, and connecting that to the VISA Open:
However, as you can see in the image above, and it seems like someone else had this problem in the 2nd thread linked above, I don't see my device listed in the drop-down menu (even if I refresh), only "LPT1" (I don't even know what that is):
No, I wasnt able to select the visa resource from the pull down menu. somehow it seems disabled or something.
If I just enter the VISA resource name from MAX manually, GPIB0::17::INSTR, and save and try running that, I get the error(code -1073807346):
    VISA Open in SR715/720 Initialize2.vi->SR715/720 Getting Started.vi
So I'm not sure where to go from there, or why it's not in the drop down menu to begin with. I'm sorry if I've missed something but I've searched about as far as I can go. If I had to guess, maybe one thing could be that in MAX, under Tools->NI-VISA->VISA Options->My System->Conflict manager, I have both Agilent VISA and NI VISA enabled; I know sometimes problems arise from conflicts between different software fighting over the same hardware. Is this okay, or do I need to change it?
Thank you and please let me know if there is any other code/screenshots I could provide that could help!

Hi, I did indeed enable NiVisaTulip.dll under MAX->Tools->NI-VISA->VISA Options->My system->Passports->List of passports. Sorry, I should have mentioned that explicitly.
By install as primary, do you just mean as it is here, where it is selected as the "Preferred VISA"?
Or somewhere else? I installed NI-VISA first I believe, and then the Agilent one, and during the installation of the Agilent one, I'm pretty sure I made it not the primary. Here's what I have in the Agilent (it's called Keysight now) Connection Expert software:
I also have this under the "Keysight 488 options" tab:
Should that be checked? I don't actually know the role of VISA vs 488 here...
    What could I try?
    Thank you!

  • Can anyone enlighten me as to how I can transfer data from an extracted hard drive off of a Macbook Pro onto a new Retina model? No SATA port!!!

    Hello,
I'm trying to transfer data from my old hard drive (taken out of Macbook Pro 2009) onto a new Macbook Pro Retina.  My ignorance is vast and I purchased an eSATA device to do so, not thinking that there is no SATA port on this new computer.  Is there a special cable or anything anyone can recommend?  I'd be very grateful for some help here.

I would just get a cheap USB enclosure from OWC, put your old drive in it, and use it it transfer the data to your new rMBP. Cheap and simple. The one I spec'ed is for a USB 3.0 enclosure as you have USB 3.0 ports on your computer - much faster than USB 2.0.

  • How can I transfer data from DD & HD 3.5" floppies to my MacBook Pro running Lion?

I hope this is the correct forum group,
    and if it’s not, I apologize. I didn't find
one that was really related to my topic.
I was given lots of legacy files (mostly Eudora email messages and other text files from 1995-2000) that I need to access from 3.5" diskettes (in both high density and double density formats) and reuse the data in my current environment:
    MacBook Pro (v 4.1) running OS 10.7.
DHCP over TCP/IP home network with several PCs running Win XP, the MacBook Pro and 2 iPhones; and
    iCloud is setup.
Also a Mac IIci loaded with OS 7.6.1, which hasn't been booted up in years, but I will try to do that next as I locate a video cable. (Please note that the files in question did not originate from this Mac IIci.)
Before I get too far down any path, can some one please tell me which route is the most feasible and practical to start with?
Resurrect the Mac IIci using it’s floppy disk drive to read the files, then:
    Create access to my email and send myself the data;
    Add the Mac IIci to the network in order to move the data;
    Connect it directly to my MacBook Pro and migrate the files;
    OR
      2.  Using am ext USB floppy drive, copy the files directly onto the MacBook Pro;
    OR
    3.  A better approach you might recommend.
My questions may seem very naive as there might be compatibility issues using the Mac IIci due to the differences in the technologies, I would think.  But perhaps it's doable?
If I take the second route, I will need to find a compatible ext floppy drive. I have scoured the Internet seeking one that is compatible for Mac and that can read both the 720 kB DD (normal or double density) as well as the1.14 MB HD (high density) formats.  No luck. Most manufacturers do not specify whether or not they support the DD format. The ones that do are for PC. Any suggestions?
Sorry for being such a dunce about this. I would really appreciate some advice and being pointed in the right direction. Thank you for your time and patience.

    Hi Kurt,
The Mac IIci is not even powering on at all. Tried again with wih a tested power cable and no luck.
I think it's best that take  this issue to the Older Hardware Community. Not only did I see a fair number of replacement parts for the IIci avaiable online, but there also vintage external floppy drives as well. I'm not giving up.
Thank you for your time and interest in helping.

  • How can I share music between 2 different users on the same macbook pro?  Same apple ID on both is no good.

I shouldn't have to use "match" yet another thing to pay money for.  I've been reading other discussions and can't figure this out.

Home sharing is and was on in itunes in both users.  I get different music in each itunes but they are both logged in to the same apple ID.  I would have thought the exact same library would pop up.  Why woudl it be otherwise?  Strange.

  • Can there by multiple accounts under one id?  I just loaded a $25 gift card and it showed up in my balance.  My daughter, under the same id had $12.0 left from a previous gift card.  Now only the $12.01 shows up and the $25 is nowhere to be found?

Can there be multiple accounts under one apple id?  My daughter and wife apparently share an id between my daughter's ipod and my wife's ipad.  My daughter has what she believes is her $12.01 left from a gift card.  My wife loaded a $25 gift card recently (I saw the $25 balance in her account when she was done) and after a password change, now all that shows up is the $12.01?

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.
