HT201328 Help to unlock a factory-unlocked Iphone 4

More than a year ago, I purchased in the USA a factory-unlocked Iphone 4 for use in Brazil. Recently it was updated the to v5.0.1, and now the unlock is gone. I've tried everything - backing up and restoring, reactivating, all - and nothing works. It is not a jailbroken device, and there is no AT&T here in Brazil.
Also, I do not own the receipt anymore and american AT&T asks me that to confirm the unlock. What should I do?
Thanks!

Actually, I paid the full factory-unlock price at the purchase (US$ ~600 + tax) on a BestBuy store. It was either NY or Orlando, I can't really remember which city I was at the time. So it was unlocked and worked for a while, until it was updated a couple months ago.
I'm thinking of taking it back with me to the US on my next trip there by the end of the year and going to an AT&T store, but until then it seems there is nothing I can do to make it work!
Anyway, I checked another thread (https://discussions.apple.com/message/15915713#15915713) and it looks like the same situation. I think I'll give it one more try to unlock it on Itunes, but if that doesn't work I'm out of ideas.
Tks for the reply!

I was given an Iphone 4G from a friend as a gift to a visiting professor from Rwanda. The Rwadan professor can not unlock the phone at MTS their local carrrier is it possible to unlock the phone? The Iphone was a gift I can get all needed info about it, including the phone number, carrier, anything to prove it was a gift and not a stolen phone.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Help! Unlocking Iphone 4s questions!!

    Hello,
Im wanting to buy an used Iphone 4s and use it on Tmobile. I read somewhere that if it is factory unlocked by Apple then it can always be updated. See, I have an unlocked Iphone 3g that cant be updated cause if I do it will no longer be unlocked and can never be unlocked again. (Then I cant use it on Tmobile) Atleast that is what I was told. So Im really wanting to make sure my next Iphone is already updated to the latest IOS and (if possible) unlocked to where I can update it without losing the abilitly to use it on Tmobile.
Also, whats the newest update for the Iphone 4s? Is it IOS 5 or 6? I want to ask any sellers before I buy to make sure I have the newest update!
Thanks so much for anyones help! You have no idea how much research Ive been doing to figure this stuff out and all I do is end up getting more and more confused!!
    Thanks!!!

Thank you so much! It's so nice to get a straight answer. I have another question, how can you purchase an unlocked sim-free iPhone from apple? And how much would that be for an IPhone 4s?
Walk into an Apple Store with credit card in hand or order it on-line from http://www.apple.com.
Also, could I unlock the phone by myself if I bought one that wasn't unlocked? Cause my other problem is thar if I buy a used already unlocked iPhone it might not be updated with the newest IOS 6.
    No.

When I unlock my iphone 4 and restored to factory setting, it does not accept my passcode. Does anybody know about default passcode?

There is no default passcode, the passcode would be whatever you had it set to.

  • HT201328 How to unlock iPhone locked to Orange/T-mobile UK ?

I bought this iPhone recently from ebay and contacted Orange Support but they said that I have to have account with them at least 3 months...
How I can do this now when even seller doesn't respond resopnd for my massages ?
I have to throw away this phone or there is any way to help me ?
Please let me know how I can resolve my problem...
    Thanks a lot
    Darius

You already have the answer. ONLY the carrier it is locked to can authorize unlocking it.
Establish service with Orange and keep it active for 3 months, then ask them to unlock it.
If the seller advertised it as unlocked, then file a claim with ebay and get your money back.
There is nothing else you can do.

  • HELP! unlock Iphone

HELP! have Iphone 3G. I unlocked it locally in my country (not the US) and I have resetted the Iphone and its not waking up. Its trying but I have the apple image non stop. And its been already 5 hours.
Did I kill my Iphone?? what should I do????
    THANKS!

To put it in recovery mode:
    1. Disconnect phone and start iTunes.
    2. Connect phone to a USB port on the Mac, not an external hub
    3. Press both home and sleep/wake buttons until the Apple logo reappears, then continue pressing the home button alone  until iTunes detects the phone in Recovery Mode.
    4. Follow the prompts to restore.
Depending on how your phone was hacked to unlock, this may not work and may get error messages. Write down the message.  You may have to Google to find "alternative" methods that can't be discussed here.

  • HT201328 how to unlock iphone without a computer?

how can i unlock my iphone 5s without a computer?

No matter what kind of unlocking you mean you cannot do it without a computer.
Carrier unlock can only be done by the carrier it is locked to.
If the screen is locked you also need a computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212

  • HT201328 How to unlock iphone before you get a new sim card?

I read the article on unlocking the iphone 4, and got permission from the carrier to unlock it.  But the instruction assume you already have a 2nd / diferent sim card.  How do you unlock the iphone before you get a new sim card?  I.e, as in unlocking it before going overseas where you will purchase a country specific sim card?
    Thanks,
    Bobj.

I restored my AT&T locked iPhone without a different sim, & got the congratulations screen. So, do this:
    1. Sync your phone to create a current backup.
    2. When finished, hit the "Restore" button.
    3. When done, you should get the "Congratulations" screen.
    4. If you do, restore your phone from the backup you made when you started.
    5. Sync your content back to your phone.
    That's it. You're done.

  • HT201328 How to unlock iPhone after porting out number

I finished 2 years contract for my AT&T iPhone 4S and requested to unlock the device. Shortly, I got AT&T email and I followed instructions to unlock my iPhone. I thought it's unlocked and ported out the number to other carrier online. When I inserted the new sim card into it, I realized that the iPhone was still locked. Then I used AT&T void sim card and tried to unlock again and again. It doesn't work. I called AT&T to assistance and it seems helpless.
What do I do about this now?
    Thanks

    Thanks Lawrence,
Yes, I tried to backup and restore your iPhone to iOS 8.1.3 using iTunes many times, but never got this Cong. message, instead 'Welcome to Your New iPhone'. BTW, my old sim card is locked, so I need to input the passcode and disconnect&connect iTune during restoring.
Searching online, I found it seems that the old AT&T sim card is inactive and I need a new sim card and number to unlock it. Is it correct?

  • Help to unlock iPhone from O2

    Hi
I have loaned an iPhone 3GS while my phone goes off for repair. O2 will not unlock the iPhone as it was purchased via Ebay and not directly from them. Does anyone now how I can get this done without taking it to one of these unlocking shops. I have heard that these places can cause problems with the phone which I obviously dont want to happen
    Thanks in advance

"The woman at O2 told me to take it to one of these dodgy little shops! "
This is hacking the iphone and could lead to any number of problems.
This is exactly what I thought and was a bit shocked when she suggested it! I am wondering if it is actually worth all the hassel and I will be better of phoneless until my rubbish samsung is returned! Roll on August when I can upgrade to a nice shiny iPhone of my own!

  • HT201328 Carrier cannot unlock iphone 4

My carrier T-Mobile UK cannot unlock my iphone 4. They have sent the request to apple who have replied that it cannot be done, but with no further details. The handset is my own and I have reached the end of my contract with the carrier and wish to switch. The only advice T-mobile can give me is to contact Apple, but from the Apple website they direct me to my carrier for unlocking. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

That's a steaming pile of manure.
Carriers dictate when a device can and cannot be unlocked.  They send the request to Apple and Apple complies.
Contact the carrier, ask to speak to a manager or someone intelligent and demand an honest answer and resolution to your issue.
