My girlfriend has an iPhone4 on AT&T network and she wanted it unlocked so we contacted them and requested an unlock code, after receiving the code and connecting the phone to iTunes and doing everything that needs to be done for the phone to be unlocked i am still having problems because iTunes doesnt seem to unlock the phone. what should i do?
i would really appreciate any help i can get.

thanks you for taking the time to reply to my query. I unlocked my last iphone a few weeks ago and i followed the same instructions andi had no problems, but i think there might be a communication problem between AT&T and iTunes. Anyway this is the email i recieved from AT&T

With my last iPhone after i restored it it was automatically unlocked but in this case its not recognising it.
I am just trying to find out where the problem is and who to contact to get this sorted.

It is locked with Telus, my daughter is a Virgin Mobile customer. Telus told me they will only unlock it if she activates it with them, she cannot do that as she is in a contract with Virgin. Only the carrier to which the iPhone is locked can unlock it. In
this case, you must work with Telus. If they have a pay as you go
plan, activate the iPhone on Telus that way and then after
you meet whatever requirements Telus has, stop using Telus
and move the iPhone to Virgin. Or sell the iPhone to someone
who can use it on Telus.
Telus is the only one who can unlock that iPhone. -
I have been given permission for unlocking my iphone 3 GS from Orange. I want to set up the phone for my wife to use with a new number and carrier. Do I unlock under my itunes account first ( I now have a new iphone on this account) or set one up for her and then unlock the phone. I am worried about upsetting the new phone.
I would complete unlocking as is and then
restore as new once you know the iPhone is unlocked
Be aware Orange will process the request at their speed
one of the reasons they usually reside at bottom of User Sat surveys

I purchased an iPhone off eBay and the phone isn't stolen or anything but it has the activation lock on it where it says "this phone is linked to an apple account (****@****.edu) I tried contacting the seller and they thought restoring the phone would remove that but its hasn't any idea what I can do or am I screwed and I need to get my money back
The iOS activation lock is a new feature that will be introduced in iOS 7, and is currently only something that can be used as part of the iOS 7 beta. The activation lock is exactly what the name suggests, it's a lock to prevent activation. This is done so that if the device is stolen, it can't be used. There is no work around you can do on your end, the only way it can be done is for the original owner to remove this device from his "find my iPhone" settings, which he can only do by giving you his appleID login details.
As activation lock is part of iOS 7 developer preview beta, you might get more information at the developer forums however it's more than likely you got ripped off -
after unlocking over the phone from ATT and resetting iphone 3gs I keep getting the same error message "could not activate phone" neither Apple Store Tech or ATT were able to fix this .
Itunes displays a message saying "there is no SIM installed in the phone you're trying to activate" even if there is the same SIM that was working minutes before.
The SIM works on a different phone I tested it.

Well it’s going on day 6 and still sporadic to no EDGE on my iPhone. At one time, it was thought to be a defective iPhone – since my partner’s iPhone works just fine.
After over three hours on the land line with AT&T and Apple, I was sent to the local Apple store for a replacement. Of course, as soon as I walked into the Apple store my iPhone worked just fine. ;-( The local store replaced my iPhone and suggested I go home and activate the phone as a NEW iPhone, that way if there was a bug in my data it would not carry over to the new phone. Did that and well… still sporadic to no EDGE. By the way, I have the Big White “E” to the right of the 5 bars and AT&T .
AT&T said last week they has “Software” issues in my area, but the CSR I talked to did not know what the issues were or if they were the cause of my problems. He did say they would call me back today to see how my iPhone was doing, but alas, no call back.
When I’m next to my partner, trying to access the same feature, his iPhone is just so fast. Mine hangs up, draws out and finally I get the error message, “Could Not Activate EDGE”. I am updated to version “1.1.4(4A102)”. New (refurbished) iPhone direct from Apple.
I remember reading a while back about some problems others had when they upgraded to from 1.1.3 to 1.1.4. I never had those problems, but it sure looks like they may have started. Does anyone remember what the problems with 1.1.4 were, what was done if anything to correct them, and best of all any suggestions?
By the way, this is Seattle, not some small – out of the way place where connection and signal strength is expected to be second rate. Also, I had full function of my iPhone from the day I bought it in June 2007, all the way up to Thursday March 20, at 2120.

Where did you purchase it, & from whom? The only reliable way to determinr the phone's locked/unlocked status, if you don't know, is to call AppleCare.

Call AppleCare...they can tell you...cost for the call, in the US, is US $30.

How long ago did you contact them regarding the unlock? It takes time.... time as in days or weeks, not hours.

TJBUSMC1973 is correct. Back up your iPhone and then restore to factory settings. During set up you will be prompted to download and install Network Carrier Settings(this is the unlock).

Hey guys my friend visited america these days and i said him to buy me an iphone 4. I live in Kosovo and I'm having a problem activating my iphone.

You can contact AT&T to see if you qualify to unlock the phone, but I doubt you do.
There's nothing further you can do. Sell that phone and purchase an unlocked one. -
I have paid Bell to unlock my old iphone4 and they have said it is now unlocked. Can I skip the back up and restore process and just buy another carriers sim card from my daugther Kodoo plan, install it and active the iphone4 on itunes account in her name?

DaveThe process is as follows:
Backup the phone, Erase it, connect to iTunes for the unlock process, then your iProfile can be restored.
You can go ahead and get the SIM, bout you have to Erase the phone and connect to iTunes before it will be unlocked. -
I received a message that my iphone 4S was unlocked and that I should connect to iTunes to complete the process. When I connect to itunes I do not get the message "Congratulations you iphone has been unlocked". I have the latest itunes. Welcome help.

Thanks.You should have received some type of notification from your carrier if it was successfully unlocked.
To test it yourself, you can try putting a SIM card from another carrier in your iPhone, but there is no setting or anything you can read.
You can also give Apple a quick call or chat and they should be able to confirm if its unlocked or not.
