    That is normal. The developer has to enable this, Amazon has chosen not to.

  • Upgraded to Yosemite.  Videos on Amazon Prime and Netflix crash frequently.

    First time participant.  Recently bought a Macbook Pro (early 2011) with an i5 processor.  Laptop is in EXCELLENT condition.  Upgraded memory from 4 gigs RAM to 8 gigs.  The RAM is Mac certified, but not purchased from Apple.  Running Yosemite 10.10.2.  This laptop belonged to my son so I know the history of it.  He had no problems watching videos when he was running previous OS X, up through Mavericks.  It seems that once he upgraded to Yosemite, all **** has broken loose.
    I am having a terrible trying to watch videos on Amazon Prime and Netflix.  Sometimes it just locks up, and the rainbow wheel spins.  Sometimes everything crashes and gives a kernel panic message.  Other times it shuts the video down, and says that the plugin (Silverlight and Flash, both) have failed.  The most worrisome is the kernel panic shutdown.  I have tried everything, including:
    Perused just about every discussion of same of similar problems on Google/Bing.
    Re-setting the cable modem and wifi router.
    Deleted Flash and Silverlight and reloaded fresh copies.
    Adjusted settings in Netflix to the lowest quality and tried both Silverlight and Flash on Amazon Prime.
    Tried three browsers, Safari, Chrome, and Firefox.
    Adjusted the settings in all three browsers to try and optimize watching videos.
    Started up in safe mode to see if the problems clear.
    Pulled the RAM upgrades and put in the original 4 gig sticks.
    Signed out from the owner account and signed in as Guest.
    Called Apple customer care and spent over two hours on the phone, only for the supervisor - yup, supervisor! - to tell me he was stumped and would have to kick it up to the technical folks.  Still haven't heard back from them.
    After all these attempts to fix the problems, and then trying each "fix" individually, it is still virtually impossible to watch videos on Amazon Prime and Netflix without some type of crash part way through the video.  None of these things happen on YouTube, by the way, or any other video sites I have tried.  The only thing I haven't tried is starting all over again with a fresh install of Yosemite and all of its components.  Really don't want to do that because I am afraid of losing the Microsoft Office 2010 Pro I have loaded.  Paid a lot of money for a one-time use license.
    Please, does anyone have a suggestion I haven't tried?  I'm to the point of sacrificing chickens and invoking the spirit of Steven Jobs!  Look forward to hearing some ideas.

    The answer is subjective depending on your view point.
    Amazon prime has very little value accept for it's supposedly free movie service, so what you are really paying for is essentially a very similar service to NetFlix at a slightly higher cost, the Apple TV offers NetFlix and has a premium movie service in iTunes which most people would require in addition to NetFlix or Amazon. A hardware solution seems somewhat over the top to me.

  • Why am I paying for Prime and losing station

          I cannot quit until October but after IFC disappeared, no BBC America, now no Sundance in Prime while I'm still paying an arm and a leg, i'm starting to look elswhere.  My son went to Roku and I have that and Apple TV.  My internet seems slowed down, I want to quit the land line and I'm paying more for less and less with inferior DVR programming than either Direct TV's or TIVO's.  I'm reaching a point of diminishing returns.  3 more months!  I might consider keeping DSL but my condo already has Directv as an option.  
       I just dont get the reasoning behind these package choices.  Why would they want to annoy a higher paying customer like this.  FIOS was really impressive when I first subscribed except for the primitive DVR programming, but lately it seems to be offering me less of what I want for more money.
        I know I'm whining here butthe trend does have me considering other options as never before. Of course these alternatives can also have their own troubles but at least my choices will be more in my hands.  I certainly cannot miss channels that Prime won't give me anyhow and going off the packages will get rid of all these ash and trash channels I never ever use.  I bet one day we will be able to subscribe to HBO Go, etc separately. I cannot imagine such uptions are not coming.
       FIOS does not need me certainly (I'm in the non-preferred Geezer demografic. The ones with discretionary income and a preferred demo living in the guest room.) but surely this kind of marketing will work against them in the future.  Maybe the MBAs know best because I certainly don't.
      OK.  I'm done whining.

    Yeah. I sure you're right. I guest that it's going to take some time for all the changes in ways entertainment is presented to shake down to some form of semi-stable predictability, if ever. For me the point of cost and trouble to obtain various services will decide to what I watch and subscribe as market forces work. I wonder if IFC and Sundance and many others will fare that well selling individually at higher prices, there's only one show on Sundance and occasional single shows on IFC that I'm interested in so for me they will now be never watched. Will they draw enough viewers to survive? Time will tell. Thanks for the input.

  • Home Sharing no longer works between iTunes and Apple TV.

    I've been through all the forums, tried all the solutions provided and I have come to the conclusion that Home Sharing just no longer works between iTunes on a PC and my Apple TV.  Does anyone know if this issue will be addressed or should I list my Apple TV up on eBay?  (along with my iPad, iPod, and iPhone, since all system no longer sync together as before.)
    My issue:
    My iTunes library is no longer listed under "Computers" on the Apple TV.
    The airplay icon no longer shows up in iTunes. (Version 11)
    I cannot play music/content from my iPhone or iPad via remote that is stored in my iTunes library through my Apple TV. 
    I can however play music/content that is stored locally on my iPhone and iPad through my Apple TV.
    My firewall settings are allowing access to Apple TV.
    After logging into my router, I see no issues there.
    I've logged in/out, turned home sharing on/off, de-authorized/authorized, and restarted my PC, Apple TV, and Router.
    All devices are logged into the same iTunes account, and are on the same wireless network.
    Time for a solution Apple.

    If you turn off wifi on your  Computer and connect it to the apple tv using an ethernet cable can you see your library under computers in Apple TV.
    If yes the issue is with your wifi not the Apple TV

    iTunes Home Sharing Not Working
    Not working and sometimes when it is working, it cuts out in the middle, or when you click on the computer name, the focus goes away from the library.  In other words, really weird.
    What it is
    iTunes has a feature called "Home Sharing" - it basically allows you to share your entire or part of your library with other instances of iTunes in your home network.  It requires you to login to your iTunes account on both computers.  A typical scenario is to enable Home Sharing on your desktop machine and then access the library from your iPad, Apple TV, iPhone, Mac, etc.
    In my case, I have iTunes on my desktop machine running Windows XP in the attic with Home Sharing enabled and then I access the library from my Macbook and Apple TV, depending on what I want.  How to use Home Sharing can be found here.
    Symptoms
    Home Sharing machine not showing up in Apple TV or the Macbook
    The Macbook home sharing not showing up on my desktop
    Home Sharing working intermittently
    Connections getting cut of intermittently
    Usually, restarting iTunes or the desktop computer will make things work.
    Sometimes, restarting the Macbook or the Apple TV will make things work.
    The "working" doesn't last long
    The FixOn the desktop computer where the Home Sharing is enabled, I disabled the "QoS Packet Scheduler" from the network connection:
    Open Control Panel
    Open Network Connections
    Right-Click on your connection (in my case, it was "Wireless Network Connection 4"
    Select Properties
    Uncheck "QoS Packet Scheduler"
    Click OK
    Restart iTunes if necessary
    After doing the above, Home Sharing worked like a charm.

    It appears as if my startup disk has been reversed and not using the fusion ssd portion as it should.  At least its now reversed as to what it used to be originally before.  the 128gb ssd used to be on top.  Is my mac booting fusion correctly?  Thank you for responding as I was about to reformat.

    The internet goes out and I have to reset network setting each and every time. This is only a temporary solution which by the time I release the line with Spring or leave the apple store the issue is back. Sprint indicates that it is a know issue with the Iphone 5 and apple says it is a network issue as Sprint's network is not up to par with the Iphone and can not meet the expectations on the Iphone 5.
    I have attached a few picture, as you can see it clearly says I have 5 bars and 3g available but I have no connections what so ever.
    This issue affects all data and so I can not send or receive picture messages, use apps, or access the internet. The data goes in and out intermittently and it seems the phone chooses what I can and can't do.
    For example I can watch Youtube or Vevo videos but I can not access Facebook or Instagram.
    Is anyone else having this issue?
    I will soon loose my patience....
    I have reset my phone three time and have reset network and other setting mutltiple times.

  • Unable to Sync i-Tunes and Apple TV

    Hello. I am writing about my inability to sync i-Tunes and Apple TV. I have read a variety of posts in this forum regarding other users' problems with the same issue and have been unable to solve my own based on recommendations, including exchanging my Apple TV for a new one at my local Apple store, which I did.
    My Apple TV is linked to my computer through a Linksys wireless router. The Apple TV is able to connect to the internet as demonstrated by its ability to download movie trailers, access YouTube, and get its software updated. It appears in my i-Tunes (version 7.5.0.20) devices list, but each time I click on sync, nothing happens. I get an error message about opening port 3689 because but that port is not blocked. I've shut down my TrendMicro "PC Cillin" firewall and the same message comes up.
    So in sum, the Apple TV can link out to the internet but not back to my i-Tunes. Both are running latest software versions. Here's the best part, before I moved a few months ago to my current home, both worked and communicated fine! After I moved and hooked everything back up the way it was, Apple TV didn't work the same (i.e., did not sync with i-Tunes). Thinking it was a problem with Apple TV, I exchanged it for a new one recently. But the new one has the same problem, so it's not the Apple TV unit.
    Any help would be much appreciated.

    I had the same problem. I doubt it is the firewall software on your cpu but rather then one on the router itself. On your linksys control panel, go to applications and on the port list enter 3689 to 3689, enter the ip address for your appletv (you can get it from the apple tv or from the DHCP client list under the status tab on the router). Click enable then update. Or, you can simply disable the firewall on the security tab of the router but I would not recommend this. Even after updating, I had to unplug the apple tv to reboot it and then it worked fine.
