About AirPlay and Airplay Mirroring
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). For non-qualifying Macs you can try using Air Parrot.

Please help on this, many thanks!

Ensure all devices are on the same network.  On your mac go to settings-display-look toward the bottom you should see an airplay menu select your apple tv.

Wish to upgrade from SL to ML on Mac Pro. Spec says only on Mac Pros from early 2008 but unsure how old my Mac Pro is as it is from work and there are no records. How do I find out if ok to upgrade to ML?

You can write to Apple with the serial number and they can tell you exactly when your MacPro (as opposed to Mac Book Pro) was manufactured.
And in the Apple menu > about this Mac >  more info > there should be sufficient detail to narrow it down.
EDIT.  These are the specs for the      April 2007 version.

  • How to migrate Mac Pro to MacBook Pro?

After cloning my Mac Pro Boot Camp XP2 to my MacBook Pro via Netrestore I realized I'm not sure how to deal with the hardware differences.
XP boots fine on the MacBook Pro but has no trackpad, and no USB mouse support.
I tried to reinstall "Boot camp drivers" twice, first using retail Leopard 1.5.1, second using the MBP Leopard 1.5.0. Both intallers autorun OK, startup but "hang" at "Status: Apple Built-in iSight".
    Any suggestions much appreciated!

You are using the same XP copy and license on two different hardware platforms. At the least you need to boot from XP CD once to do a system repair.
Take a look at WinClone http://www.twocanoes.com for restoring Windows (FAT and NTFS) to another hard drive, but isn't designed for moving to different computer (there may be something in their FAQ and forums though).

  • How loud is Mac Pro compared to Mac mini G4?

I use a 1,25 Ghz Mac mini G4. At normal use it is almost inaudible. I would like to know, how much louder a Mac Pro is, compared to the mini.

I have both a G4 Mac mini (the "stealth" 1.5GHz model with 64MB VRAM) and the 2.66GHz Mac Pro. Under light load or when in idle the Mac mini makes much less noise than does the Mac Pro. However, the Mac mini fan can ramp up pretty loud when it has been under heavy load for more than a minute or two and in that case the mini is louder than anything I've yet heard from my Mac Pro. If you do little more than browse the internet, write emails, use Word/iWork, run iTunes, and/or watch a few low resolution movies then the Mac mini will be quieter. However, if you encode video, run extensive filters in Photoshop, or play 3D games then the Mac Pro will probably be quieter. This assumes, of course, that you have the passively cooled NVIDIA 7300 card and not one of the higher-end video cards which require their own fan to keep them cool.
Now the Intel-based Mac mini is a different story. I've used one of the dual-core Mac minis and it always seems to be quiet, so if you want near silence then one of the current Intel Mac minis is the way to go (IMO).

  • Problems mirroring mac pro on TV with apple TV3

I just got an Apple TV3.  It works with the typical Apple TV stuff, except Mirroring. I'm running Mavericks on a Mac Pro (2012) and there is 1 minute or so delay between what I seen on my Mac on what the TV displays.  I follow the exact steps people show on Youtube with the same bad results. Any suggestions before I exchange this unit? Thanks

I just solved the problem!  There were two issues: (1) The power cord to the DSL modem was broken ... it was turning the modem ON/OFF randomly-- I replaced it, but the Apple TV still didn't work well.  (2) The router (Linksys E2500)  I replaced the OEM firmware for the appropriate Tomato firmware version, and after completing its setup ... Voila! the Apple TV worked as expected ... it's a beauty!

  • How to backup Mac Pro 2nd HD onto Time Machine

Hi, I have a Mac Pro with 2 internal HDs (1 x 500GB containing system and app files) and 1 x 1TB containing documents, pictures, etc.
I want to use Time Machine to store hourly versions of my work (especially changes to documents and pictures). How do I configure time machine to do this - at the moment it looks like it will backup everything from my home directory but not my second internal drive?
If I can't do this, what are the performance implications of having my documents (pages, keynote, numbers) being accessed from the boot drive - I understand that it is better to keep these separately.
    Thanks for your help.

Actually, T.M. backs up any and you use to have to exclude a volume to not be included.
Also, I would still use another method for making a backup copy of your system and documents, like SuperDuper.
I don't see the need to backup the system except before making changes, patches, and updates or installing programs and such that I'm not 200% confident of, but otherwise I would not want to have the system and apps being backed up.
There are also utilities to modify T.M. behavior, when etc and to help navigate and inspect what is in T/M's backup archive.

  • How reliable is Mac Pro 4,1 (2009)?

I am intending to purchase used from eBay a 2009 Pro.  Are these machines reliable?
How stable are they running the latest OS X 10.8?  Any widespread issues with random GUI freezes or glitchy graphics?
    Is fan noise really loud?
I really want something stable and largely trouble-free obviously.

I can't and I didn't want Lion. So I run 10.6.8 on one SSD and Windows 8 on 2nd. My Mac Pro will be 7 yrs old this summer and still works and runs better than ever. It is nearly dead silent. It is my space heater for my office.
I am a fan of the Specials and would buy again in a heartbeat.
    The W3680 $620 3.33 6-core is excellent
A lot of issues stem from upgrading to ML over a system that has had Leo or SL and carrying around old out of date code that req'd PowerPC and the drivers, tasks, are trouble and need new updates or to be removed. A clean install works fine and Setup Assistant to import apps and data.
10.8.3 seems to have fixed a lot of outstanding issues. And added a lot better graphic drivers and functionality.

  • How to tether Mac pro to existing wifi with airport extreme

Wifi where I live.  Need Mac pro on net.  Have airport extreme.  Does apple disable this for marketing reasons to sell wifi internal card?  Or, can I use what I have?  Thanks!  Using Lion
BTW. Mac is less stable with Lion!!!!  Like using microsoft used to be :-(

2009 and earlier Mac Pros did not include a Wi-Fi card in the standard configuration.
Check the System Information app (in the Utilities folder) -> Network -> Wi-Fi and see if it indicates a wireless card is installed.

  • How to prevent Mac Pro to select USB audio out instead of optical audio out?

I have the following problem: Usually I use the optical audio output of my Mac Pro, but every time I reboot the system, Mac OS X changes the audio output to an usb audio device I've attached to use it with Boot Camp. Is it possible to prevent Mac OS X from changing the audio output automatically every time I start my system?

I have no problems with the audio out (the jack on the back) on my Mac Pro, though I'm not using a high-end stereo and I'm in an office environment so I may not hear subtle noise. If you haven't tried a different cable, you might try that. If your stereo supports it, you can also try the optical output.
As far as it not playing at all, make sure the Output setting in the Sound system preference is set to "line out" (or digital out if you're using the optical jack).

  • Forgot user password, how to reset mac pro to factory settings

    hi guys,
Recently I bought a used mac OS X 10.5, am very new to mac world. i am unable to load any softwares like wireless adapters since I am unable to get the password for the previous user. Also, I would like to reset the computer to factory settings, can I do that? Would you folks help me out!!
    thanks

The Mac Pro has 4 internal drive sleds, no cables, that just pull out and slide back in.
Pull out the original drive and see what else is there.
Buy yourself or use one of your own drives.
HOLD 'C' to boot from a DVD.
Holding OPTION or Alt will show a boot menu of valid boot volumes (can include Windows even). You could boot from Windows CD/DVD and nuke the whole thing.
Before installing, go to UTILITY menu and DISK UTILITY and ERASE the drive (not the subset volume).
Assume you know your way around Mac and OS, yes?
You don't know what was or wasn't, and if you don't own license for software etc that is on the computer, another reason to wipe it clean.
    Start from scratch.
Call AppleCare Customer Support and they can send out discs for fee, insure it is 'legit' (need to give them the serial number from case).

  • How is the Mac Pro owner 2007 supposed to upgrade to Mountain lion

I Need help finding out if I can uupdate my Mac Pro to mountain lion

You can't. Neither the 2006 nor 2007 MPs can run anything higher than 10.7.5.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by ordering it from the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • HT201335 how to mirror my mac laptop to TV screen

I have set-up my Apple TV through ITunes and on the Apple TV. AirPlay is on. Now I like to know how I can watch a German TV show which I have rot saved on my harddrive, I am streaming it, I can watch it on my laptop screen. I want to mirror it on my big TV screen. I have wireless N, laptop is updated, Apple TV unit is newest model.

Thanks Vazandrew for giving me the answer. Your response matched what I was told by the Apple TV technician expert except that he did not mention that Airparrot will solve the problem.
AIRPARROT.... hurray!!!!!   No iTunes needed. You can do anything on your laptop and it will show up on the big TV screen.  After running a free 20 minute test trial at airparrot, I signed up for 5 Apple laptop hook-ups for $30. A great deal as I now can take my Apple TV unit anywhere and just install it through a friend's Apple laptop  or my house guests can utilize the mirror feature through their Macs. Yesterday,  I watched a German TV channel broadcast on the big screen, reception was almost perfect. Sometimes the picture stuttered a bit but the problem has nothing to do with Airparrot rather with my wireless connection/my speed reception in the different rooms.
I just bought a Linksys Maximum Performance Dual-Band N900 Router (E4200v2) to maximize the wireless speed. I will also install the Amped Wireless High Power Wireless-N Smart Repeater and Range Extender (SR300. I think I end up with perfect broadcast reception even when others are online at the same time.

  • How to mirror 15" Pro to 24" External without losing screen space

    Hi guys-
    I have a mid-2009 15" MacBook Pro (2.53ghz) running 10.7.2.
I'm trying to mirror my screen via DVI to a Samsung P2450, a 24" LCD Monitor (with 1920x1080 resolution).
I have zero problems using it as an extended screen, but I get a problem when I start mirroring:
I get about an inch on both the left and right of the monitor of black space (my laptop monitor is just fine) --
I'm using 1440x900 on my laptop and 1920x1080 on my monitor.
This black space goes away when I set both to 1024x768 (stretched).
I used to be able to mirror without this problem on Snow Leopard and a VGA connection, but now I get this issue.
    Any suggestions?
I understand that the mirror limitations are based on what the laptop presents, but surely there's a way to get 1440x900 stretched, or something. (1600x900 does not fix the problem)

Yes, remote controling another Mac is just like sitting in front of it, but you need a fast connection between the two, Ethernet or Firewire 800, for fast screen redraws.
The Mac Mini is in a window just like the link picture shows on your primary Mac, the video you would be playing on the Mac Mini's screen to the audience would be using the Mac Mini's CPU and graphics, not your primary Mac.
The Mac Mini would be then also sending your primary Mac the image on the screen, so you won't have to face the Mac Mini's display to know what's going on the screen.

  • Mirroring (Mac Pro to TV) Watching videos from websites looks terrible

Hello! We are trying to use Apple TV to cut out cable, which is easier said than done at this point! One thing we are trying to do is watch content from CBS.com or Hulu.com (show that can only be streamed on a computer) on our TV through mirroring. For one thing the image looks terrible. It was very pixilated, delayed, and stuttery. We are hitting about a 15 Mbps download speed. We are considering returning the system if this doesn't work. Does anyone know any way to make it look better?
    THANKS!

Got some links to the external videio card ?
Last one i saw was 100% diy and only worked partial under windows and not under osx at all
