HT201342 Setting up IMAP for iCloud mail & gmail in Mozilla - Help

On first setting up up Mozilla I successfully included iCloud and gMail.  Something happened and it lost them. The only crash I have had on here since new, over a year ago.  I am running Mozilla in Windows 7 Ultimate.
It will not set the iCloud or gmail accounts up again. Perhaps I guessed the settings correctly the first time round.  So, next time I will make a note.
Can anyone please give me the IMAP settings for both to enter into Mozilla's creat an account?
Thanks!

Took some time, so I have answerred my own query, but others may benefit!

Thanks for the advice King, but my newly bought iPad2 still isn't showing what the manual (downloaded from the iPad site) says. Also, when you say that there should be a "More" button in the music app (I assume you mean the item under Settings) I am afraid there isn't anything like that either. The page has iTunes Match, Sound Check,EQ,Volume Limit, Group by Album Artist and then the Home Sharing section with my Apple ID and Password. That is all. Maybe I need to find a better User Guide for 5.0.1? Your further input will be much appreciated.

  • SINCE SIGNING UP FOR ICLOUD MAIL I HAVE LOST ACCESS TO MY AOL ACCOUNTS. HOW DO I GET OFF ICLOUD MAIL? IT DOES NOT WORK.

I SIGNED UP FOR ICLOUD MAIL LAST NIGHT. TODAY I CANNOT OPEN AOL MAIL ON EITHER MY IMAC 20" OR MY MACBOOK PRO. CLEARLY ICLOUD IS A LOSER. HOW DO I DELETE ICLOUD MAIL?

iCloud should have no affect on any other mail accounts on your computer, especially 2 different computers. Are you sure AOL isn't down?
But if you believe it is affecting your AOL accounts, open Accounts tab in System Preferences and select the iCloud account uncheck mail and any other features you are using with iCloud. If you are using no iCloud features, sign out of iCloud completely. It will remove any iCloud email account from Mail.

  • Manually set up 10.5.8 Leopard for iCloud mail

10.5.8 Manually set up iCloud mail on Leopard's Mail applicaiton
****Setting up 10.5.8 Leopard is not supported by Apple's iCloud.*****
Setting up iCloud mail is at WILL.
    iCloud: Supported system requirements:
Summary--This article explains the minimum system requirements for using iCloud. To create a free iCloud account, you must have either an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5 or a Mac with OS X Lion 10.7.2.
To set up iCloud mail on Leopard 10.5.8, you can do the following:
Backup your email messages that are currently shown in Mac Mail Application.
MobileMe, Mail: Copying MobileMe or IMAP email messages to your hard disk
Summary--In Mail in Mac OS X, you can save copies of MobileMe mail messages to a local disk, for example if you want to create "backups" of MobileMe messages you have received. (This article also applies to any IMAP email account in which message caching is turned off.)
Remove you previous MobileMe account. (after making sure anything important is backed up).
    1. Open Mail.
    2. Click File > Add Account. (If this is the first time you've opened Mail, you'll                     be automatically prompted to add an                     account). In 10.5.8 Leopard uncheck "Automatically set up account", then select Continue.
    3. Enter your
        Example: Full name-- Johnny Apple
Email address-- [email protected] or [email protected]
        Password-- Enterpass1*
    4. Choose the Account type.  Select IMAP.  Then, enter description (for example, "Johnny Apple's iCloud account").
    5.  Enter the Incoming Mail Server, User Name, and Password using the following settings:
         ▪       Incoming Mail Server: mail.me.com
         ▪       User Name: Your iCloud email address (Don't add @me or @mac)
         ▪       Password: Your password
    6. Click Continue to proceed.
    7. Enter a description, such as "iCloud Outgoing Server"
    8. For the Outgoing Mail Server enter: smtp.me.com.
    9. Select "Use authentication" and verify you entered your user name (youriCloud email address without @me.com/@mac) and password.
        Then, click Create.
    10. Verify your settings in Account Summary, and then check "Take account online."
    11. Click Create to finish configuring your mail account.
    12. After completing these steps, you can send and receive email via your iCloud account.

Here are two steps that have come in handy in related situations
    1) login to gmail on your computer or device via a web browser
    2) once logged in successfully, go to this URL to unlock:
    https://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptch
The Password rejection can confuse people since it's a catch all meaning...
This Password, Username, Authentication method... is not recognized on this Port to this Server, or a server end problem.
Or duplicate entries in Keychain Access.
If using a browser to login via WebMail works it's not Name or Password, but one of the other ones.
    The receiving email ports are:

    IMAP-SSL is port 993
    POP is port 110
    POP-SSL is port 995
    Outgoing ports are...
SMTP and SMTP-SSL is on ports 25, 587 and 465. Port 587 has to be SSL, and port 465 is enforced TLS-wrapped and is generally used by Outlook users.

  • What are settings for iCloud mail smtp and imap OS 10.7.5?

message is could not connect to this icloud IMAP server. verify you entered the correct info in the account preferences.  Says the same thing on SMTP server.

    Hello,
Check if Mail is changing imap.mail.me.com to old mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to old smtp.me.com.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
        •    Server name: imap.mail.me.com
        •    SSL Required: Yes
        •    Port: 993
        •    Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
        •    Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
        •    Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
        •    SSL Required: Yes
        •    Port: 587
        •    SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
        •    Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
        •    Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.

  • How can I have a different default reply account for iCloud mail?

When I reply to emails on my iPad that came from the iCloud server the replies are from my iCloud account unless I manually select the @gmail.com account in the dropdown list. On my Macbook it does work!

  • Easily Setting up IMAP for the iPhone

The email client application on the iPhone is a bit lean but it's easy to use. When using POP email it downloads the entire message (and attachments if present). If you get a lot of email this takes time and can really eat up your battery. Also, if travelling outside of the U.S., as I do often, the roaming data charges can be high. Web based email will also be expensive as web pages need to be downloaded onto the iPhone.
IMAP type email lets the email and attachments sit on a remote server and you see only the subect and header in your inbox. When you find something you want to read then you can open it. Attachments are also not downloaded automatically. This saves the amount of data exchanged and your battery and potentially can be much cheaper overseas.
The problem is that not everyone has access to an IMAP email account or service. I currently have three POP accounts. two personal and one for my work. I asked our IT manager if he could activate IMAP on our Exchange server and he said no as he would need to open another port and that is a potential security risk. They do forward my work email to a proxy email account I have so I can read it at home with my non-Outlook computer.
I finally came upon a fairly good solution that I have been testing out. There are several email services available that use IMAP. Some are free and some cost a modest amount. I finally selected FastMail.FM (I believe they are in the U.K.). Their IMAP service has a lot of options available with it and one of which allows you to poll outrside POP accounts. I set up an email account with them and FastMail reads my three POP accounts every 2 hours and dumps them into my IMAP inbox.
I now have only one email account for my iPhone (now IMAP) for my three POP accounts. I find the iPhone in IMAP email mode a little easier to use (if that's possible) and deletion of emails from the iPhone is easier (an edit button will appear in IMAP mode). Attachments are also more stable as it is possible to lose an attachment in POP mode if you don't download a message fully and then try to download it again. I tried email messages with PDF and DOC attachments and everything worked OK.
FastMail also has their own SMTP servers so you won't get into the occasional snafu that occurs when you attempt to use the SMTP server from your own ISP. One thing though, they have four different options available for accounts. "Member" status seems the best ($35/year) as it has large mailbox, storage and data allotments.
I went up to the ATT website to look at data usage and it's truly modest in IMAP mode. Checking email with no new emails appears to be in the 4 to 6 KB area and downloading 20 or so message headers looks like to be in th 15 -20 KB zone. I'll be tracking this over the next few days and I'll post the results.
    Mini + iPhone   Mac OS X (10.4.10)
    Mini + iPhone   Mac OS X (10.4.10)
    Mini + iPhone   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Two things would solve this problem for 99% of iPhone
    users I think:
    1) Gmail needs to get IMAP implemented.
There is a simple and elegant solution to the Gmail IMAP problem, and it doesn't require deleting all your outgoing messages as some "solutions" have recommended.
    1. Go to http://mail.aol.com/ and sign up for a free AOL email account (which will be [email protected])
    2. Log on to your AOL email, go into Settings, and turn the spam filters off
    3. Log on to your Gmail account, go into Settings > Forwarding and POP
    4. Set your Gmail to "Forward a copy of incoming mail to:" [email protected] (also choose whether you want the original to stay in your gmail inbox or get archived)
    5. Set up the email account on your iPhone as follows:
    - Type of account: Other > IMAP
    - Incoming email account: imap.aol.com (use youraolusername and AOL email password for incoming email)
    - Outgoing email account: smtp.gmail.com:587 (use [email protected] and Gmail password)
    6. Under Advanced settings, have it delete the messages from the server after downloading them. (Optional, but there's no point in leaving them on the AOL server)
    Voila! You get:
    1. IMAP access to your Gmail inbox (thru the AOL proxy...don't worry, the emails won't look any different than if you got them straight from gmail)
    2. Outgoing emails will be sent through Gmail (nobody has to know the AOL account even exists)
    3. Messages sent on your home computer will no longer be downloaded onto your iPhone (since that's a function of POP that's particular to Gmail, and does not occur with IMAP)
    4. Sent emails will remain with their threads and do not have to be fished out of the trash if you want to be able to search them later (remember that messages in the Gmail trash are automatically deleted after 30 days)

  • Unable to save settings in mail app for Mac OS X for iCloud mail?

    Hello
    I have two questions really.
1: I wanted a new email address, was happy to see I could create an iCloud email address - but it seems you need an initial email address to have an iCloud email address. As in, I couldn't use it as my apple ID?
2: I cannot save settings for my iCloud mail because the incoming server is 'greyed out' and the mail app identifies this as the incoming server being blank which it isn't, but I cannot edit it as the 'greyed out' font is locked and unchangeable. Apple state that the incoming server should read as:
    Server name: imap.mail.me.com
But mine reads this and it won't let me change it. Other wise the email works, but I do need to adjust the settings etc and I can't because the incoming server is apparently blank when it isn't.
    Server name: p09-imap.mail.me.com
I hope this made some sense to someone. I simply wanted a new email address and it's taken up the best part of an afternoon.
    Thank you.

    Problem Solved(ish)
I had to Apple chat, iCloud is set a certain way, and that's it.
They edited my full name FOR ME (I know).
Password is made to match your Apple ID, so that's how to change that.
As for Mailbox behaviours, as I said above - On the left side bar of Mail app, right click or Command Click under Mailboxes iCloud.com and select Get Account Info then> Mailbox Behaviours. Your settings will save then without the whole 'Can't save settings when incoming server is blank.'
I hope Apple will soon make that if they must have an auto-filled Incoming Server, that the Mail app will not recognise it as blank so that we can at least edit Mail preferences when and how we like it.
    Thanks.

  • Set default BCC in iCloud mail?

Is there a way to auto-fill BCC in iCloud mail?
I would like all mail that I send from iCloud to be BCC'd to another address, but I don't want to have to insert the address manually every time I compose a message.
I need this mostly on iOS mail, but would also like it on Mac and web (iCloud.com).

    Hey, pvonk & ebouy...
I think this solves the matter I've been researching, but I'm not positive.  Perhaps y'all can clarify for me...
I know how to insert a script into OS X to automatically generate a BCC for every email that originates via Apple Mail; that works great, and I can have copies of all outbound emails sent to whatever email address I choose.
Now that I'm (finally) adding iPhones to the mix, I want to do the same thing.  I.e., I want to tell either iOS or the mail client on the iPhone (v5, in case it matters) to automatically send a BCC for every mail that originates from the iPhone, and I want that BCC to be directed to whatever address I choose.
If I'm reading this string correctly, I need to make two settings:
    1) Go to Settings > Mail > Contacts and find the "Default Address."  Here, enter the email address to which I want the BCCs sent.
    2) Go back to Settings > Mail and turn "On" the choice to "Always BCC Myself."
If I'm right about that, here's my question:
When I send mail from that device, is the "Reply-To" setting the mail address from which I originated the message or is it the "Default Address" that I named in Step 1 above?
    Thanks!

  • Mail? How to set auto check for new mail?

Ok, I want to be able to turn on my mac, and whenever a new mail arrives it play a sound or pop up etc..
Now I made the setting in mail Preferences>General>Check for new mail every 5 min, and I tested by sending myself a email, but it didn't make any notify sounds or anything..
So my question is do I have to open Mail at startup for this to be able to work? "Open at login" or any other ?
    Thanks
    Message was edited by: nubbic

To start Mail automatically, go to System Prefs>Accounts. Highlight your account then click on the login items tab. Add Mail to the list.
As for sounds, that is under the Mail prefs. Make sure your sound is turned up.

  • Is there any development plan for iCloud Mail so I can use it instead of Gmail at some point?

I would like to leave Google services in favour of Apple, as I feel that Apple is much more serious about their users, more mature and more reliable. I also feel that my data is safer with Apple than with Google.
    So I have some questions:
Is there a plan for introducing business service of Mail or icloud in general, so I can create multiple accounts in our business domain?
Is there a plan do extend Mail capabilities so it supports multiple identities including retrieving and sending through external email addresses?
    Thanks
    Michal

Apple doesn't allow discussing new products here, it is prohibited in the terms of use.
I would suggest you look at the history of Apple's online services…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MobileMe (The sidebar lists release/ closure dates).
In the 14 years since iTools started they have never offered the ability to use custom domains. They haven't really added any multiuser support in one account (not at any level suitable for a business).
Apple also closed down the MobileMe sites and galleries features, causing many thousands of sites to disappear. Apple didn't even offer users the ability to redirect to a new domain. Apple also drop services for older Mac OS's, you may find a member of staff is left out of Apple services because they need to use some older software or don't want to use the latest OS etc.
iCloud is just like Apple's other online services - targeted at home or new users. The integration is good, but only for people who fit into Apple's intended audience.
My advice – do not setup your business accounts with iCloud if you plan on avoiding the disruption caused by the whims of Apple.
If you don't want to use Google use another provider for email, calendars etc (or run your own Mac server if you have the know how).
In the 10 years since Gmail started it has been consistent as is the 'Gmail for my domain'. Google have also removed and changed services, but the core features are still there & work on many older OS's.

  • Cannot set Use only this server for iCloud mail

Each new versions of OS X add more bells and whistles and brings us closer to the fun that made me move away from Windows, 9 years ago!
So this update appears to have problems saving my setting and mail is really having problems.
I have 7 accounts and each has thier own SMTP out going mail server which I set in the Edit SMTP Server List.
For some reason my iCloud account has lost this setting and now when I try to set it Mail tells me it cannot save the setting while the Incomming mail server is empty.
But iCloud sets it's own incomming server! I cannot change the setting!
I'm very disapointed with the way the quality of OS X has dropped with each new release. I'll soon be back sitting up all night trying to keep the Mac working just like I did in the bad old days with Windows, only with less money in my pocket!

    Hi there
If you have more than one Mail account on more then one server, you can select the server from which you want to sent the mail. If you select "Use only this server" you can't select the smtp server on sending. thats all
