HT201343 Airplay on MacBook Pro Retina
I am having trouble getting my MacPro Retina to connect with AirPlay AppleTV. I can see the library on my AppleTV but I cannot see AppleTV on my displays. I have Home sharing on, everything is on the same wifi network using an Airport router. I have a 3rd Gen AppleTV and a 2013 MacPro 13" Retina laptop running OSX 10.9.2. Also Airplay works fine on my iPad2 and on an iMac.
Hello,
I am having this same problem and cannot seem to find the solution anywhere. Everything has been attempted: Router reset (even though mirroring works fine on my iPhone and iPad 3), Software is up to date on both apple TV 3 and 2012 Macbook Pro, MBP has been rebooted and so has the Apple Tv. The support link from above is of no help because it suggest that my computer/software is not compatible, but all the prerequisites have been met. Someone please advise.
Thanks

No airplay or mirroring on 2013 Macbook Pro Retina
After searching forums and the web for days I still have not found an answer so here by an independent post:
My MBP Retina shows no airplay icon and devices not available under Preferences>Display
When trying to connect Apple tv to iTunes library, it tries to load it and shows the name of my iTunes library but after one minute, error message: ‘Could not connect to iTunes Library’. Find it strange that Apple tv can find the name of my iTunes Library but can’t connect to it. Same goes for iPhone and iPad when trying to connect through Remote to MBP iTunes.
iPhone and iPad connects perfectly to Apple tv with airplay, however they are not able to connect to my MBP Retina and iTunes over wifi, only via USB.
Have…:
2013 Macbook Pro Retina with ML, latest update
Apple TV3, latest OS
iPhone5, latest iOS
iPad2, latest iOS
Have turned on Home Sharing in iTunes with same ID and all devices connected to same wifi
Have followed Troubleshooting Home Sharing but with no result
Have tried switching off Firewall on MBP but with no result
Have tried connecting Apple tv via cable to router, no result
Have uninstalled antivirus programs but with no result
Have rebooted, MBP, router, apple tv but with no result
Anyone who can help? Or have an idea on how to test if I have some kind of programme blocking incoming signals on my MBP?
Many thanks!!!Thank you for your suggestion regarding partitioning my old MacBook for OS10.5. I like that idea and I'll give it a try. Can't I just use my Time Machine for a back up or should I use SuperDuper to make a clone? I'll have to buy a new drive to make a clone as my external drive is pretty full with Time Machine backups. Should I use Disk Utility to partition my drive as recommended by Neil?

I downloaded Mountain Lion in my i have macbook pro retina display last month. but I don't get airplay the option on my macbook. I went to display preferences, but the airplay is not available. What is the next step?
You also need:
Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation) with software update v5.0 or later. -
When trying to Airplay from my Macbook Pro Retina, to AppleTv3 it plays for only a few minutes, and then jumps back to the Mac. It seems to do this no matter what I play, music, movies or pictures. I just bought a new router. This could affect it.
I have been playing whole movies before from VLC without problems.
Any Ideas?Welcome to the Apple Community.

Macbook Pro Retina crashing when running Safari and iTunes since Mavericks
Hello everyone. I am starting a new thread even though there seem to be a lot of various crash reports. I have noticed several entire system crashes (never, ever happened on my mac before until I updated to Mavericks) when using iTunes and Safari at the same time. The entire computer crashes and/or freezes up - no keyboard or mousepad response, and no crash report, only option to manually restart by holding down power button. I include an etrecheck report below fyi, but cannot seem to locate anything myself. I do not use external montiors or any other open apps or extensions. OI have put this under Mavericks because this problem (as well as others I have had to fix) has only begun since updating the OS. Apple tells me that I just have to be patient for the other software to catch up to Mavericks - but this is Apple's software! Any ideas? Many, many thanks, and Merry christmas.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time after you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post any other kind of report — it will be very long and not helpful. -
Dominating Macbook pro Retina 10.9
I have some serious problems with my Macbook Pro Retina 10.9:
I am sharing office with 4 pc users.
After having been away for some weeks I came back a couple of days ago, and had a little problems getting to the internet. I checked cables, but after some minutes the problem seemed solved.
Then the drama started. My colleagues are working on a remote desktop, and after my little trouble they experienced a very slow speed – My Mac dominated our access to the internet.
What happened?

All Late 2013 MacBooks Pro with Retina display come with OS X Mavericks (OS X Mountain Lion is not supported), so if you are using OS X Mountain Lion, you have got a Mid 2012 or Early 2013 MacBook Pro. As you have not got a Late 2013 MacBook Pro, you do not need the update you listed.

(I heard you can't download from the App Store if you're on a late 2013 MBP with retina display.
(the terms "update" and "upgrade" seem to mean different things to different people - is moving from 10.8.6 to 10.9.1 an upgrade or an update or is it both the same?)
It's true. You cannot download OS X Mavericks from the Mac App Store on a Late 2013 MacBook Pro with Retina display because the available version is not compatible. However, if you are using Mountain Lion, you have not got a Late 2013 MacBook Pro.
Then, note that OS X 10.8.6 does not exist. The process to move from OS X Mountain Lion to Mavericks is an upgrade, because it's a new operating system. An update refers to a bug fix release or small features release, for example.
You do not need to run Disk Warrior before upgrading. Instead, you can verify that your hard drive is OK with Disk Utility (in /Applications/Utilities). Also, make a backup of your files with Time Machine and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com -
MacBook Pro Retina 15 Inch acting up.
Ok, I have several things going on:
My spotify app started crashing on startup, and the my Adobe Premiere CC programs stopped functioning correctly. CS6 Master Collection worked before, and then started doing the same thing.
Now my touch pad sometimes becomes unresponsive to certain gestures (or stops working completely).
I have used EtreCheck to get system details - I am removing as many of the third party applications as I can, but I ran the check first in case it was one of them that could still be causing a problem.

During your use of your Mac it looks to me that you've installed various bits of software that without you knowing, also installed various little things that are normally not visible, and which you need to get rid of. They are not essential, and are probably causing most of your problems.
My own preferred way of finding this invisible stuff is to use a piece of freeware called EasyFind, from here.
Unlike Apple's built in search facility Spotlight, EasyFind doesn't rely on an index but searches directly on your hard drive and will quickly find everything, including the things that are normally hidden.
To find the things I suggest you should trash, do the following using EasyFind. You may need to type in your password for some of these things to happen.
1. Search (only folders) for a folder called Startup Items and open it. In there you'll find CUDA: Path: /System/Library/StartupItems/CUDA . Move it to the trash using the EasyFind menu item.
2. Search (only folders) for a folder called Launch Agents and open it. In there you'll find the Launch Agents listed by EtreCheck. Trash them all. You don't need them.
3. In the same search, EasyFind will probably also find a folder called User Launch Agents. Trash this whole folder along with anything that's in it.
4. Search for a folder called User Login Items. Open it and trash everything that's in there.
5. Search for a folder called Internet Plug-ins. Open it and trash everything that's in there. You will probably also find a folder called User Internet Plugins. Trash the whole folder and everything it contains.
6. Search for a folder called 3rd Party Preference Panes. Open it and trash everything that's in it.
Then restart the computer and see if it performs better.
At various points you may get a window that tells you you need to reinstall Java, Acrobat Reader, and Adobe Flash Player. If so, go ahead and do this.
I hope this helps. -
Macbook Pro Retina - Your computer restarted because of a problem
Hi there,
I've recently experienced problems with my Macbook Pro Retina(A1398) with freezes. It's very often and randomly freezing and it gets hot on the top of the back in the middle. When I start it up it freeze again at the spinning wheel, but I can use hotkeys to login and stuff, but the screen stays on spinning wheel I can hear sounds, when I click aswell and adjust the brightness on screen and key-light.
I got this message on latest freeze - I force shutdown the computer when it is frozen.
Should I turn it in a genius apple store or is it software related?
Best Regards,
Michael

So now I am a little worried. Do you have any ideas?
The deadline for a refund was the 17... Do you think that in such a case I would be eligible for an exchange?
Thank you very much for your help.

Choppy video playback with airplay from Macbook Pro
I experience very choppy video using airplay towards my Airplay unit (3rd gen).
I am using a Macbook Pro (15" retina, late 2013 version) with these specifications:
- Intel Core i7 2.7 GHz.
- 16 GB ram.
- 768 GB flash/SSD.
...and so on. I have the Mavericks OS installed (10.9.1).
When I duplicate or extend the screen of the computer to my Apple TV it is chopping EXTREMELY much. I am not talking a little bit - but it is not even watchable. I thought that it could be the router itself as the connection is (probably, correct me if I am wrong anyone) is directed from the computer - to the router - and then to the Apple TV, which could make the router like a filter in the process. And if something would prevent the signal from reaching the Apple TV with "full speed" it could prevent the actuall image.
However, when I am using the iPhone 4S and streaming video (both video found in my phone as well as streamed TV from apps such as Magine.com) the image flows completely flawless. There are not even a touch of lagging. It flows perfect, just as watching a movie directly on the TV.
The networking hardware in the phone is slower than in the Macbook Pro retina (late 2013) - both for sending and recieving data. But still... my iPhone works better than the Macbook Pro for the Apple TV. Even though that the processing, memory, graphic and networking power is probably a thousand times faster in the computer... it still performs really bad.
I have followed some discussion threads here (https://discussions.apple.com/message/22051725#22051725 and https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5734226?tstart=0 just as a couple of examples). I have accessed my router (Netgear Gigabit EVG 2000) and increased the Wireless mode to "up to 270 Mbps. I have also followed the previously linked threads and disabled the WMM (in the QoS-section). I felt that this made a little bit of a difference...
...when I am mirroring the screen and scale down the resolution to match the AirPlay screen (full-HD, 1920 x 1080) it works okay, but still chops quite a bit almost all the time. But if I extend the screen and want to watch TV at the same time as I am doing something else on the computer - then it chops so that it is not even possible to watch.
This have to be something either with the Mavericks OS or with my network settings - can anyone help me...? It would mean A LOT!Curious why you think it would be my network when the same network is being used by the iPad 3rd Gen and iPhone 5 and they both stream without issue. As far as the other items you mentioned, all devices are up-to-date with the latest firmware/software and the latest MacBooks do not have ethernet ports. Speedtests that I have conducted also indicate that bandwidth is not the issue as the results show that the speeds received from the router are quite impressive.

anyone any idea what the failed one is ? also when i first got it 100% battery was showing like 7/8/9hours remaining, now with just this and etrecheck open 100% is 5:45. Any suggestions? When you see an exclamation point in the Wi-Fi menu, from the menu bar, select
▹ System Preferences... ▹ Network
Click the Assist me button and select Assistant. Follow the prompts. You may get a warning that Wi-Fi is not available, that you're too far from the base station, or that you're using the wrong password.
Assuming that you've ruled out those possibilities, restart the computer and try again. If there's no change, click the lock icon in the lower left corner of the preference pane and authenticate, if necessary. From the Location menu at the top of the window, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
