HT201343 Apple TV

If my MacBook Pro does not support "Mirroring" can I still stream TV shows from my Mac to my HDTV using my AppleTV?

Hi ky jkh,
not sure if this help, but please try to go into your router and disable "WMM" option.  It's usually under QoS or Wireless settings.  I had somewhat similar issue (AppleTV disconnected from iPad2): https://discussions.apple.com/message/19240966#19240966
hope this helps

  • HT201343 Apple Tv mirror + Airport Express audio output = How to?

I want to mirror my MacBook to the Apple Tv but I want to send the audio to the Airport Express.
If I ask my Apple Tv to send the output to the Airport, it works just fine.
If, after that, I use the iPhone to mirror the screen and watch some video on youtube or Twitch, it works fine either.
But if I use my MacBook Pro to mirror the screen, the audio output is sent to my TV through the HDMI cord.
Is that any way that I can solve this?
What I want to do is just mirror my MacBook screen with the audio coming out through the Airport Speaker.
    Thanks for any help, folks!

  • HT201343 Apple TV &HDCP protected playback

Sorry can't find an Apple TV community.  Does Apple TV support HDCP protected playback when streaming?  I keep getting an error msg that suggests my HDMI cable is not connected.
I'm using the latest firmware and streaming via an Airport using 7.6.4 from OSX Mavericks.

I thought that was the case.  The error msg appeared on the TV and told me there was a faulty connection and to unplug/plugin the cable, which I did only to get the same error msg.  The obvious thing was a faulty cable so I tried another - another one from Lindy, but this time from their "Premium" range.  Same problem and error msg.
Normally I play content via the TV using "Beamer" a small app from http://beamer-app.com that allows you to stream mp4/m4v video via Airplay.  Never had a problem in the past and according to the Devs, it should play HDCP content.  In case it was this app causing the problem, I reset the Apple TV, imported the mp4 to iTunes and tried streaming to the TV via iTunes.  Bingo!  It played perfectly.
Just in case I tried again, this time streaming via Beamer.  Again no problem.  Go figure....
Whether it was the Apple TV reset that altered something I have no idea, but so far everything seems OK.  Hopefully that will continue, but I'd love to know what caused the problem in the first place.
For the record, I'm in the UK and the video was one from the BBC, downloaded via iPlayer - Prof Jim Khalili explaining Quantum Physics.  Fascinating stuff and if it ever appears on PBS in the USA I highly recommend it.
Thanks for the all the help.

My MBP is Early 2011 but dunno why cant use mirroring with apple TV, the icon cannot be found. So cannot use mirroring.
I have follow trouble shooting , they recommend to go system preference -> display , thus can find out the mirroring icon if no mean it doesnt support. But according to the web, Early 2011 MBP should be able to use, dunno why.

Just realise I havent updated my OS to mountain lion and this is the reason why I cannot use mirroring before ^^
    Thanks all

I have a Mac pro with osx ml in a Ethernet connection and a apple tv with a wireless, there is no way I can see the airplay in my Mac pro

Mac Pros don't support Airplay.  Only some post 2011 Macs do, MAc Pros aren't amongst them.

You could try Airparrot software as a workaround.

  • HT201343 I have a Late 2011 model 13' Macbook Pro and i purchased Apple TV because it should support Airplay mirroring.  It says i should have the airplay icon on my menu bar but it does not appear.

According to the help page i was viewing my Late 2011 13' MacBook Pro should support Airplay Mirroring.  However the airplay icon does not appear on my menu bar like i says it should and when i go to System prefereneces>Display nothing appears there about Mirroring as well (like it says it should).  The help page specifically says that Late 2011 MacBook Pros should support Mirroring etc...
    Any suggestions?  I'm all ears...

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Airplay needs 10.8 or later, you need to update your operating system.

    Hello there, tpeeler88.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some basic steps for troubleshooting your issue:
About AirPlay Mirroring in OS X
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404
    Particularly of note:
Mac and Apple TV are on the same network, but no AirPlay Mirroring menu appears
Your Apple TV may be asleep. Simply press a button on your Apple TV remote to wake it up. After a few seconds, the AirPlay Mirroring menu extra will appear.
Make sure your Apple TV has the current software update installed.
Make sure you have the "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" checked.
There are also Additional Information links with additional troubleshooting recommendations.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
