HT201343 Macbook 2010 airplay mirroring
I have a Macbook (white) mid 2010 running Mavericks OS. Does my device support Airplay? I've just purchased an Apple TV and I cannot find the airplay mirroring option in mi Macbook.
As clearly stated in the article from which this thread was started, your computer does not meet the requirements for mirroring.

HT201343 i lost AirPlay Mirroring how can i get back
i lost airplay mirroring and how can i get it back
I have the same problem.
I have a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro running ML 10.8.2
I already used it with ML, the icon in the Statusbar was there as soon as my ATV 2nd gen was on.
iTunes streaming with my MacBook and mirroring with my iPhone and iPad is still working.
Last week I wanted to use it again and the icon is gone. In the settings i checked "Show Sync Icon when available" but it doesnt find the ATV2.
I dont know since when its gone (dont use it that often) My guess is that there is a bug in the 10.8.2 updated. Can someone confirm or disprove it?
Thanks in advance! -
Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro (Early 2011) and a 3rd generation Apple TV. Both are updated and runing in the same network. Hoever, I can manage to enable airplay. I don’t find the mirroring menu and in the display settings I’m not allowed to change to the apple TV. On itunes I see the airplay iconbut nothing happen.
ThanksWelcome to the Apple Community.
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). You can see which Mac you have and which operating system you are using by selecting 'About this Mac' from the Apple menu in the top left corner of your Mac and selecting the 'More Info' button. -

Thanks in advance.Hi DGeert

HT1338 AirPlay mirroring 2012 MacBook pro
Trouble shooting AirPlay mirroring , MacBook pro AirPlay mirroring icon keeps disappearing and disconnection occurs on apple tv , need help ?
Hi!
I figured it out! It was a firewall issue.
I use Handsoff and I checked it before i wrote here. There was no "user defined rule" that denied the communication but when i changed to "All rules" the program displayed several rules regarding AppleTV and its IP.
So if anybody has the same problem make sure you see all rules of your firewall and get rid of the AppleTV related rules generated by the program itself. You dont need to update to the latest iOS on the AppleTV!
I hope that I can help some people with this info to fix the problem. -
Airplay mirroring no longer working for videos played in iTunes
After the latest software update for iTunes on my Macbook Pro, Airplay mirroring stopped working with my Apple TV from iTunes. I can still mirror anything on my Macbook display, except it won't mirror any video that I play with iTunes. All of my software is up to date. I've followed all the guidelines of ensuring that everything is connected to the same network, rebooting, etc. Is there a glitch in the latest iTunes software update?
Here is the compatibility table
H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High or Main Profile level 4.0 or lower, Baseline profile level 3.0 or lower with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
You may want to also try converting using the Apple TV preset in Handbrake to see if that helps -
what's up with the screw job on the Airplay mirroring? Macbook Pro (mid 2010) too old to have feature included in Mountain upgrade? Bull!
Please read:
http://arstechnica.com/apple/2012/07/mountain-lion-airplay-mirroring-v-airparrot -fight/
Mountain Lion's integrated AirPlay mirroring support only works with the following Mac models:
iMac—Mid 2011 or newer
Mac mini—Mid 2011 or newer
MacBook Air—Mid 2011 or newer
MacBook Pro—Early 2011 or newer
If your Mac isn't on that list, your won't ever see an AirPlay option in Mountain Lion's menubar.
What separates these Macs from other Mountain Lion-compatible machines is that these are the only models that have support for Intel's QuickSync technology. What confirmed this requirement for me was the fact that my Retina MacBook Pro switched to integrated Intel HD4000 graphics even when otherwise running on the discrete NVIDIA GT 650M GPU. No matter what you are doing or what resolution you are running, AirPlay Mirroring in Mountain Lion requires an integrated Intel HD3000 or HD4000 graphics processor and its QuickSync technology to work, full stop. -
HT201343 Airplay not working for MacBook 2010
How is it that a relatively new MacBook 2010 wouldn't be able to use airplay mirroring, and why is there no information about that up front? I purchased mountain lion expressly for this function and only now discover my MacBook is too old?
Or am I missing something...(i hope so)Lots of people are disappointed. Including me.
I have a mid 2010 iMac.
Most of us did our research and knew that our machines were "Not Airplay Mirroring" capable so we don't feel cheated or robbed.
Lot's of other nice features for some people, other people don't like or want the new features.
They have a choice of upgrading to Mountain Lion or not.
It wasn't like they made you purchase Moutain Lion, nor did they tell you your machine could use Airplay Mirroring.
It was your decision to buy Mountain Lion.
Myself, I am waiting for the new iMacs to come out sometime later this year.
I will then decide whether I want to upgrade to a new iMac or not depending on what new hardward the machines come out with.
Good Luck -
According to the help page i was viewing my Late 2011 13' MacBook Pro should support Airplay Mirroring. However the airplay icon does not appear on my menu bar like i says it should and when i go to System prefereneces>Display nothing appears there about Mirroring as well (like it says it should). The help page specifically says that Late 2011 MacBook Pros should support Mirroring etc...
Any suggestions? I'm all ears...Welcome to the Apple Community.
Airplay needs 10.8 or later, you need to update your operating system. -
i have verify that all the components are almost the same please advice why because i was able to previously airply movies why not now that i have the latest os x mountain lion
iTunes airplay still works as it always has.
AirPlay Mirroring (the ML-added feature) requires the latest Intel hardware (specifically the Intel HD Graphics subprocessor). This hardware includes a feature called QuickSync Video (similar to HDMI-over-wifi).
There is no 'almost' have it. Either you do or you do not. It wasn't an arbitrary decision by Apple to deny older Macs of this hardware feature. -
i have a macbook pro (almost positive that its a 2010 version) and i got mountain lion. The BIGGEST AND MAIN REASON i bought mountain lion was so that i can do airplay, allowing me to mirror image what is on my mac to my Apple TV. my whole computer is updated as far as the displays and newer features but the small airplay icon will not show up on the top of my screen. therefore, not allowing me to mirror image what is on my mac to my tv... it is connected to the same wifi as my apple tv. idk what to do. could it be because my macbook pro is a 2010? desprately looking for help...please help me with this issue
thank youWelcome to Apple Support Communities
Read > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404 AirPlay Mirroring requires an Early 2011 or newer MacBook Pro, so your MacBook Pro isn't supported.
To mirror your MacBook Pro's display onto the Apple TV, you can use an application like Beamer or AirParrot even if AirPlay Mirroring isn't compatible -
Will a early 2011 macbook pro run ml airplay mirroring
Will an early 2011 macbook pro run airplay mirroring on moutain lion
Only thing I would add if I was you, would be to put 8GB RAM into your machine. That will help any issues of being slow, but it should run just fine. Having more ram is always good, and for the price point its well worth it.
I have on 2010 Macbook Pro and it screams. Also on 2011 Macbook Air with no issues.
As for running slow, it could incompatible apps, or apps that havent been updated yet, it would be impossible to pinpoint one thing. -
HT201343 Airplay Mirroring in Mac OS
Hi All,
Am wondering why am not able to do a Airplay using My Macbook Pro 2010. Support team says its a hardware compatibility issue, however am able to use Google Chromecast from chrome browser for mirroring. Whats Apple Is doing ?for performance issues airplay mirror only works with video cards which support hardware realtime encoding of the display image stream to a H.264 stream
if the video card does not support this feature in realtime the cpu will have to decode it all the time and that take a toll on performance and make it airplay mirror (with possible delay)
the program called airparrot handle it that way and allow you to mirro to the appletv also from older computer even windows computers I think
if you wish to advice apple about such matters you should use the feedback channel

Airplay mirroring for mac 2010 and under !!!!
I just installed OS X Mountain Lion and trying to use airplay mirroring from my mid 2010 and i found that apple disable this fueture for under 2011.
I wander why is apple does't care about all customers, only cares about the customers money. I am very disappointed that mirroring is not supported on my mac.
My macbook not exactly a slow machine, This my mac details:
MacBook Pro
15-inch, Mid 2010
Processor 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
So thank you all for your time to read it and **** you AppleI really hope a hack comes out to allow this feature for us "older" users.
