  • My macbook pro gets very hot when running anything like games or videos

I just bought a macbook pro 2.3 GHZ i7 with retina display.  It gets very hot when running just about anything of substance.  When I run a game like candy crush, the temperature can get to 167 or more.  I installed istat menus and started monitoring it.  I did notice that the fans never went on but after istats I was able to make them come on.  Without having a game going, the temperatures hover around 100.  Once the game starts, it goes crazy.
I don't really know what the problem could be or if this is normal (it really can't be....This is way too hot).  I have owned the computer for about 2 months and I need to know what to do.

  • URGENT ! Macbook pro becomes very hot in my bag when on sleep

My wife's macbook pro 15 320 G 7200, became hot to the point we couldn't touch it. Iwas on sleep in her bag. This also happens to a friend macbook pro 15 last week.
Any thought except from turning off the bluteooth wake computer thing ?
    Could this sets fire ?

I am observing similar symptoms on the following hardware:
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,3
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 3 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
    Boot ROM Version: MBP53.00AC.B03
    SMC Version (system): 1.48f2
    I have 10.5.8 installed
    Observations:
Sleep works fine after I close the lid shortly after a restart.
After working for some time I need to manually sleep the machine otherwise the described symptoms (fan running, machine is getting hot in its bag) occur.
I suspect it's a software issue and try to narrow down which apps might be involved.
(Safari and System Profiler seem to be OK so far)

  • My iPhone 5s with iOS 7.1 become very hot when charged almost reach 100% and will shut down itself.

My iPhone 5s with iOS 7.1 become very hot when charged almost reach 100 % and will shut down itself. Then I need to off the power and let it cool down first before I can on the phone back. Please help me to solve this problem. Thanks.

    Hi Limfromsi,
It is normal to an extent for the iPhone to get warm during charging. If your iPhone is currently in a case, you may want to try charging it without one and see if the issue occurs, as the design of the iPhone uses the exterior of the device as a cooling surface. For more information about iPhones and temperature, you may find the following article helpful:

  • Mid-2010 Macbook Pro running very hot

    Hi all,
My mid-2010 Macbook pro is running very hot. On average CPU is 61-70 degrees Celsius, sometimes even more. I'm pretty bad at having lots of chrome tabs open and heavy multitasking, but even when I'm not temperature still ends up very high and fan rpm can get to over 6000. Heat seems to be concentrated to the lefthand side of the touchpad (battery area?). I'm running 10.9.3.
Current stats below from iStat pro widget (smcFanControl concurs with these temps), with only the following pic's activity running. Laptop currently balanced on two books (so airflow around the sides) which are in turn on my lap.
I have tried reseting the SMC with the shift-control-option-power method but it doesn't seem to have worked - instructions said to press and hold this, then release, then press power again to boot, but laptop boots up from this combination anyway.
Am I just doing something wrong or will this be an expensive trip to the apple store to fix?

  • 17" MacBook Pro (2008) Getting hot while being used

Recently I have been noticing that my macbook pro is getting very hot when it get used, especially if it is used for video or for extended time periods. The computer gets very warm, almost hot to the touch, particularly above the keys and on the bottom.
I installed the iStat Pro widget so I could monitor the internal temps, and the CPU and GPU heatsink are approaching 175-180 degrees Fahrenheit quite often. Is this a problem? If so, what are some suggestions?

    you would probably have a better chance at advice in the macbook pro discussions;

  • MacBook Pro Retina "Gets Hot when viewing RAW images"

MacBook Pro Retina Gets really Hot when viewing RAW images - somebody has this issue? Solutions?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
First, download Temperature Monitor and tell us the temperatures of the MacBook > http://www.bresink.de/osx/TemperatureMonitor.html
The MacBook Pro with Retina display is made of aluminum, so it's normal that it gets hot. However, if the temperature inside is very high, fans will turn on automatically. If this doesn't happen, it may have a hardware problem

  • MacBook Pro getting really hot when connected to a Thunderbolt display

    Hi everybody,
I had this problem since I can remember, when I connect my MBP to the Thunderbolt display the laptop is getting hot and the CPU-Fan is working preatty laud.
I had to turn radio on because it is quite anoying
    Here some technical data:
    MacBook Pro 15-inch, Late 2011
Processor  2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB
    Serial Number  C0******V7L
    Software  OS X 10.8.4 (12E55)
    SDD: Crucial M4 CT512M4SSD2 2.5" 512GB SATA III
I don't have any haevy programs running but, I think, also the load average is a bit high. In most cases around 2.0 But when it is not connected to the display it's not getting that hot.
Any idea what the problem may be? Or maybe it's jus normal?
    Regards,
    Radek

I'm seeing similar behavior when I disconnect my TBD. My Retina MBP doesn't go to sleep. I get to work an hour later and it is very hot to the touch.
I'm not seeing lots of people complaining, so I wonder if it's something weird I do. Do you have VMWare Fusion or XQuartz running when you try and sleep?

  • My Macbook Pro runs VERY slow when unplugged. The battery charges and runs ok. Ran an SMC reset (no success), Safe mode (did not work), and hardware check (came back ok). What can I try next to fix this?

    Hello all,
I am new to posting on this forum but I really hope that someone out there can help me out. I have a 13" MacBook Pro, 2.53 GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3, running OSX 10.6.8. My problem is that when I unplug the laptop form the charger and run it on the battery, the computer becomes unresponsive to any commands at all. It basically really slows down to a crawl. Even when rebooting it will take 5-10 minutes or more to do so. The odd thing is, when it gets plugged back in while any of this is going on, within a minute or two it works perfectly. It has been in a mac authorized repair shop for 7 weeks and has had a new logic board and a new hard drive replaced. The battery was tested and charges fine, holds a charge when unplugged, and the system profile shows the battery at Normal. Recently, many knowledgeable mac enthusiasts gave me tip that might help. Here is what I did: Ran an SMC reboot (no success), rebooted the computer under safe mode then unplugged it to test (no success), and ran a hardware test on the install disk (showed hardware ok)
I am at a loss as to what to do next. It has become impossible to use this laptop for my classes when it is unplugged. I am about ready to just go buy a new one, and call this one a goner.
I am hoping someone reading this can help with any other ideas on its problem. Help? Anyone?
    Steve

    LPBassman,
since the tech in your IT department was able to copy your daughter’s data from her MacBook Pro’s internal disk, I’d suggest completely erasing the internal disk (using Disk Utility in Recovery mode, reformatting it with a “Mac OS Extended (Journaled)” filesystem), reïnstalling its original version of Mac OS X (either Snow Leopard from the grey Mac OS X Install DVD if it originally came with two grey DVDs, or Lion via OS X Internet Recovery if no grey DVDs originally came with it), running Software Update to get it to 10.6.8 or 10.7.5 respectively, reïnstalling Mavericks, running Software Update again to get it up to date, and finally restoring your daughter’s data.

  • How do I stop my MacBook Pro getting so hot when running VMWare?

    I've a late 2011 MacBook Pro, i7, 8Gb.
It seems it doesn't take much to start the fans whirring - which has been the same since day one.
However, what really does send it into meltdown, is VMWare. I sometimes run Windows 7 on VMWare & am very concerned about the heat and noise generated.
I'm willing to take a hit on speed if there's a way to cool things down - any ideas?

    Hey there!! Same problem here..
__My MacBook pro will not stay off when i plug it in. When i attach the power adapter even when the screen is shut the start sound comes on and it powers up__(TAYLOR SAIDS)
The white sleep light flashes 6 times and start without sound start ...
For the second time makes reboot and then heard the sound start!!!!####
    please help and thanks

  • MacBook Pro run very slow when open Contacts

My MacBook Pro (earlie 2011) run very slow. When open Contacs show the color ball. I can't see duplicates contacs.

    Back up all data.
    1. If you use iCloud, uncheck the box marked Contacts in the iCloud preference pane. Press return to confirm, or click  Keep on Mac in the dialog that opens.
    2. From the list of groups on the left side of the Contacts window, select All On My Mac. If that group doesn't exist or is empty, skip this step. Otherwise, from the menu bar, select
File ▹ Export ▹ Export vCard
Save the exported contacts to the Desktop.
    3. Quit Contacts. Triple-click the text on the line below on this page to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard (command-C):
    ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V), and press return.
A Finder window will open with a folder selected. Move the selected folder to the Desktop, leaving the window open for now.
    4. Launch Contacts. Your contacts will be gone. If you took Step 2, then double-click the file you created in that step and confirm that you want to import from it. Your contacts will reappear.
    5. Re-enable Contacts in the iCloud preference pane, if you disabled it. Test. If the issue is resolved, delete the AddressBook folder and the vCard file on the Desktop and close the open folder window.
Otherwise, quit Contacts again and put the AddressBook folder back where it was, overwriting the newer one that will have been created in its place. Post your results.

  • MacBook Pro Runs VERY HOT while sleeping after Mavericks update.

My MacBook Pro (2009 model) runs super hot while it's sleeping after upgrading to Mavericks. Additionally the fans run at a very high speed. This issue was not present before the upgrade.
I'm concerned that there is a bug that's going to shorten the life of my machine as it will lieterally run all night like this.
Has anyone else experienced this, and is there a solution?

Others have reported an issue with their systems after upgrading to Mavericks that might be related in https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5497235
No fix is posted yet, but you might want to check to see if you have the kernel_task process using 100% CPU after coming out of sleep, and if plugging/unplugging headphones stops that task from using so much CPU.
It shouldn't be the new Power Nap feature in Mavericks, as your system appears to be too old to support it, but you should check your settings to see if it's enabled: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5394
