I have an Airport Extreme, the light is only flashing amber and won't go solid green. I use my ipad 2 to try and setup the Airport and I keep getting "an unexpected error occured, try again." I've tried my iphone 4 with the same result. I've tried the utilty on my pc and same result. The airport is producing a great wireless signal and working to all devices. I really just want to get in and set the password.

When you did those resets, did you continue to hold in the reset button until the status light blinked several times?  If you didn't, then you didn't do a full reset.
Here's what I do to reset an AirPort base station:  I unplug it, press in the reset button, then, while continuing to hold in the reset button, I plug it in.  (Yes, doing this can be easier for people with more than two hands!)  I then watch the status light and wait until it flashes rapidly several times.
I have a Time Capsule that I couldn't configure at one point.  To recover from that I had to unplug it for many hours.  You might try unplugging your unit overnight.
By the way, you've been misled by poor field labeling on this forum into typing a large part of your original message into the field intended for the subject.  In the future just type a short summary of your post into that field and type the whole message into the field below that.

    Hi Philjp,
If you are having issues connecting to your Airport Time Capsule, even after a factory reset, you may find the following article helpful:

    Hi MsSunnyD,
Try uninstalling Adobe Acrobat using the Adobe cleaner Tool  http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, try installing Adobe Reader XI. That should resolve the problem.

  • 2TB Time Capsule getting "An unexpected error occurred. Try again" error after a hard reset

    Hi,
I'm working with a brand new 2TB Airport Time Capsule and after I performed a Hard reset as expalined in the forums I'm not able to configure it any more.  I receive "An unexpected error occurred. Try again" from the AirPort Utility.
I'm running Mavericks in my Mac and I'm not sure what else to do.  Any suggestions?

Completely isolate the Mac and the TC from the network.. plug the TC lan port by ethernet to the Mac.
    Factory reset the TC.
Factory reset TC Gen 5 or AE Gen 6
Unplug your AE/TC .. hold in reset and power the TC/AE back on.. without releasing the reset.. wait until status led flashes rapidly.
Make sure in the ethernet settings you have ipv6 set to link local and the dhcp set for ip. It should give you an address of 10.0.1.2
Open the airport utility, using the top menu.. File, Configure Other.
Type in the address, 10.0.1.1 .. no password is required at this stage.
Click ok and the main setup will open.
Set all the names short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Set the TC to the right mode .. dhcp+nat for router or off (bridge mode) for bridge.
Set wireless to create a wireless network.
No luck then the TC is faulty and needs to be returned.

  • HT3728 i keep getting "an unexpected error occurred " tried factory and hard and soft resets to no avail. Help??

Just moved, set everything up with a new bt hub 3 router, imac, time capsule and an airport express. After a power cut, cannot get TC or AE to connect. Tried hard, soft and factory resets. TC is a 3tb, AE is the latest. Airport goes through the motions, both start showing green light and the I get the message, " An unexpected error has occured. Please try again" Help???

The power cut has corrupted a setting.
Plug the TC into a computer by ethernet. Do a factory reset and start over.
Complete the setup.. then do the AE, again directly by ethernet.
I presume the TC is bridged and plugged into the HH3.. then the express is being used to extend wireless. If not tell us more info.
When you finish the setup.. in the airport utility use the export configuration to save a configuration copy.. if you get stuck again you can then quickly restore the working config.

  • 2TB Time Capsule getting "An unexpected error occurred. Try again" error

    Hi,
I have been using 2TB Time Capsule as wireless hotspot and for Time Machine for about one year but all of a sudden it stopped doing backups. When trying to do a backup Time Machine said it couldn't find a disk to make the backup.
Airpot Utility is still able to see my time capsule:
However when trying to configure it using the utility first it spends some time at this point:
And after 2 or 3 minutes I get this error message:
Things I have tried with the same results:
    - Setting my network preferences to change the "Configure IPV6" value on TCP/IP advanced setting to "link-local only" as suggested by a post I read but no luck.
    - Also tried doing a hard reset of the device by pressing the reset button with a pen for 5 seconds until the led blinked fast. But I get the same error when using the Airport Utility.
-I even tried doing a factory-reset by unplugging the Time Capsule from power, pressing the reset button with a pen, plugging back the power and waited until the LED blinked fast. But I got the same error message when trying to configure with the Airpot Utility.
There are a few occasions (about 10% of my tries) where I am able to get one step further: I get to the point where it asks me for a password and for a name for the Time Capsule, however when clicking next it seems that it starts to configure some things and I even get internet access via the Time Capsule, however the Airport Utility shows the same unexpected error message after a few minutes. In this scenario Time Capsule works fine as access point, but it the disk still shows as unavailable for backups. I haven't found what conditions make me be able to get to this single further step. It seems to be related to the hard-reset. But it is confusing because most of the times I do the hard-reset procedure it doesn't allow me getting to the password and name setting step. 90% of the tries get stuck in the previous step.
Any thoughts about how to solve this problem? I am worries about not been able to backup my Mac. By the way, my Mac is a MabBook Pro running Mountain Lion.

There is some bug with the TC disk and Mountain Lion..
Look at Pondini section C .. much of it relates to later OS .. Lion and ML.
Some things are obvious and others are just a mess.
Note C9.. that is important. Use short names.. no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
Try manually mounting the disk.. in Finder.. use Go, Connect to server.. and type in the address,
AFP://TCname or TCIPaddress (replaced with actual name or actual IP). eg at default, AFP://10.0.1.1
Any failure to connect try another factory reset and use ethernet.. and do it in full isolation from the network.. ie just the MBP and the TC with ethernet between them.
What version is the TC.. A1xxx from the base please??
    What firmware revision?
Using v5 utility can sometimes get around things but you cannot use it on Gen5 TC.
You can load v5 utility into ML with a trick.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
Leave the package open on the desktop so you can see the file. AirportUtility56.pkg
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. If your Mac refuses to run the software, because it wasn’t downloaded from the Apple store, go to security in preferences and allow other software to work.. this is limitation of trade methinks. You can set back later if you like.
Now drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. in finder, open the new directory, drill down.. applications, utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall version 6 (now 6.3 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. although I have had no problems when doing so.

  • Airport Extreme getting "An unexpected error occurred. Try again" error

    Hi,
I have been using Airport Extreme for Time Capsule for about one year but all of a sudden it stopped doing backups. Anytime I try to backup it says:
It is weird it says that while I am still able to use it as wireless access point. So then I use AirPort Utility to reconnect to it I get the following error:
So then I have tried hard-resetting and even doing the factory-reset procedure and running the Airpot Utility once again. When I do that I can get a bit further... I can get to the point where I can set a password and a name to it. But then when clicking next I get stopped once again with this error:
I don't know what else I should try. As I mentioned before I have even tried the factory-reset procedure but still having the same outcome. The weird thing is that it is still working as hotspot. I have also resetted my macbook pro several times (where I am using Mountain Lion). I have also tried setting the Configure IPV6 value on TCP/IP network advanced setting to "link-local only" as suggested by a post I read but no luck.
Any thoughts about how to solve this issue?
    Thanks

    Hi John,
Sorry about that. I messed things up. This is about a single device which is the Time Capsule. No Airport Extreme is involved here.
As you can see Airport Utility is able to discover the Time Capsule:
But then is takes some time in this process:
After some minutes it stops in the error:
This happens even after I try by doing a hard reset. There are sometimes where it goes a little bit beyond that to the point it asks me for password a and a name for the time capsule. After giving that info it gets to the same unexepcted error message. So no way to go further than that.
    Thanks

  • I'm getting "The update could not be installed" even after disabling everything & restarting - why?

It also says another instance of Firefox is running, but there isn't.
    I'm using Windows 7, Firefox 5.0.
I disabled Logitech devices, SunJava & everything else, no luck. Nothing else running except Windows stuff.
This is the first time it has happened - is it a problem with Firefox?

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 6.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
If files already have been downloaded then you need to remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder.<br />
You can delete active-update.xml and updates.xml as well if present.

  • How to setup the MSTSC (remote desktop client) NOT to remember last server/wks IP info..

Just similar to setup the Local/Group policy 'Don't remember last login information'
    Please advise
    Thanks in advance ...

    Hi,
The default server and the server lists are written by design in Windows, which is located in registry at:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client\Default
You can delete them manually but this effect won’t persist after next remote desktop logon. The key will be recreated and save your choices of remote servers. Therefore, I’m afraid there is no policy or method to disable this feature. A possible workaround
is to save an empty .RDP file and deploy it to all the client sides, then let all the users use this one in order to avoid remote server being saved.
For more information on this behavior, please refer to:

  • Why do I get "The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again." when loading Firefox with no explanation as to what is causing the problem?

When I load Firefox (since an upgrade to 3.6) I get error messages before it starts stating the quote above. The message does not specify which update and so when stability problems arose I stopped using Firefox in preference for another browser. I also get a message prompting me about Java which doesn't happen with any other browser. If I cannot get rid of these messages then I will continue to prefer other browsers.

No, if I used the version of Firefox that I had then not only did I have the problem that I described but also it crashed regularly.
As I said, the latest version does not appear to have these problems so with any luck I will be able to say that the upgrade has resolved the issues but it is too soon to be sure.

    All;
I—and I've seen several others in older posts—have been reported received the error "An unexpected error occurred while creating a custom installer" while attampting to build a customer ARD client installer.  My guess is that this is do to a issue related to 10.8.X (10.8.4, in my case) based console Mac but I cannot confirm this. I have verified that there are no outstanding OS, client or application updates or hot fixes, as well.
Has anyone built an successful installer from Mountain Lion-installed Mac?  Is there any know workarounds?
Thanks in advance, for any help.

    Have the exact same problem.
    iMac running 10.8.4
Got through the steps of creating a custom client installer.
if I choose not to customize and just save an installer I don't get the error but it creates a file of Zero bytes in size.
If I chose to configure, when I try to save I get:
An unexpected error occurred while creating a custom installer. Please try again....
