By 'did not work' you mean ... ? Do you get any error messages ?

My IPOD touch is using version 5.1.1. and no updates available. I use a podcast app which I listen to every day. The app updated for the new IOS7 and now doesn't work for me any more.
All yo can do is either find a compatible app that works for your 3G iPod (iOS 5.1.1) or purchase a new model iPod.

Something keeps trying to download on my mac and I don't know what it is. It is not in the apple store and just comes out nowhere and request for my password to download something and I don't know what it is. How to make this stop? It pops up every single day.

I can, with 99.99% certainty, tell you that you are absolutely right in not wanting to download or install this "Helper," whatever it is (but we can be equally certain it would not "help" anything).
I cannot comment as to Oglethorpe's recommendation of 'adwaremedic'; I am unfamiliar with it. His links to the Apple discussion and support pages warrant your time and attention.
It might be really simple -- Trying looking in your Downloads folder, trash anything that you don't know with certainty is something you want to keep, and then Secure Empty your Trash. Then remove the AdBlock extension, LastPass, and Web of Trust extensions to Safari and re-boot. If the issue goes away, still be extraordinarily careful in the future.
Unfortunately, it's probably not going to be that simple to get rid of, in which case I'd then try the line by line editing in HT203987.
I have no further suggestions (other than a complete wipe and re-install...but that's a pain because trying to restore from Time Machine would simply ... restore the Mal).
For the rest of us, please post when you find a solution.

I received an email this am telling me I was charged for a purchase I made of .99 this am. I did not purchase anything. I contacted PayPay and was informed it was for a recurring monthly .99 fee..I don't know what that is and don't want it. What is it? PayPal cancelled any further payments for this. I was informed I needed to request refund from ITunes. I did that. Why was I charged a .99 recurring fee? I purchased, or thought I did, an app called "Appzilla2" on Jan 10 for .99 cents. Does this mean I must pay .99/monthly to use it? If so, please cancel the appzilla.
We are itunes users just like you. We cannot cancel anything.
Look at your purchase history and see what the charge is for. Contact itunes support if need be. -

what are the steps in Apple Configurator iPad restore? It appears to me that Configurator repeats steps, but it probably is that I don't know what happens and when.
If you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then you can get a clue to what it is, and potentially use it, by going to https://appleid.apple.com/ and clicking 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you should see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.
If you don't have, or don't want to use, your rescue email address (you won't be able to add/change it until you can answer 2 of your questions) then you will need to contact iTunes Support or Apple to get them reset (which will be by phone as they need to verify your id - we are fellow users here on these forums).
e.g. you can try contacting iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Account Management , and then 'Forgotten Apple ID security questions'
or try ringing Apple in your country and ask to talk to the Accounts Security Team : http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
When they've been reset you can then use the steps half-way down this page to add/change rescue email address for potential future use : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312 . Or you could change to 2-step verification : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5570 -

The reason you're seeing this is that you have somehow gotten an outdated copy of Mail on your system. One possible reason is that you moved Mail out of the Applications folder (or into a sub-folder inside the Applications folder), in the process preventing it from being updated. You'll want to put Mail back directly in the Applications folder if this is the case. The other possibility is that you have somehow installed, restored or copied an old copy of Mail on your machine.
In either case, as long as Mail is in the right place, applying the combo updater will update Mail to the current version. Software Update cannot do that because Software Update sees that you are using the current version of the OS and believes there is no need to update, while the combo updater "forces" installation of all updated files. -
Hi my name is Hajk and i got a friend that has a problem with her macbook, she gets a blue screen and cant log on. So i told her if she had an reinstall disk so that i could reinstall for her but she didn't get one with the macbook. what can she do ?
If this is a fairly new Mac running either v10.7 Lion or v10.8 Mountain Lion she can use Lion or Mountain Recovery to repair the startup disk or reinstall OS X.

I have made a photo book which is ready now to send to the apple store for printing but half way through the download process it cuts out unexpectadly and will not send. I have printed many books from my computer through Iphoto and have never had this problem before. What could be the problem? I have checked for updates and installed all of them. Turned my computer off and then on again. But still keeps doing this. Help ?

The reason for this may be that the book contains photos that cannot be rendered. Have you checked the preview of your book? Does the pdf look correct?

If that is not the problem, check your network and your security settings. If you are using a Firewall or Antivirus filter, disable it temporarily.

Writing up short showcase for sed, but /-\ - A doesn't work [SOLVED]
As the title says, I'm working on a zenity script to store a fair chunk of sample sed commands to remind myself what I can do with it. Everything seems to work fine except for the l33t to english garbler.
When that is run, it gives me this:
sed: -e expression #1, char 9: unterminated `s' command
sed: -e expression #1, char 7: unknown option to `s'
sed: -e expression #1, char 10: unterminated `s' command
sed: -e expression #1, char 5: unterminated `s' command
sed: -e expression #1, char 8: unterminated `s' command
http://pastebin.org/193208 <-- has whole script and highlighted line causing trouble <-- not updated, but I have it solved on the local copy. I'll make sure to update this when I get done cleaning up the code

But if I execute this (same trouble command, but not inside the script) [fixed typo now]:
sed s/'\/-\\'/A/g <yourfile that has /-\ for a in it>
or
echo "/-\\" | sed s/'\/-\\'/A/g
^It turns the /-\ back into an A...so...I honestly don't know what the shell is doing to interpret the same command differently.

There is an error in:
sed s/'[_-'/G/g
sed s/'[]'/O/g
sed s/'\/'/ V/g
sed s/'\|/'/W/g
So unescaped []/. And probably some more from special regex characters.

Signing in with an existing apple id for buying a book doesn't work

I've created a book in Aperture and I want to buy the book via Apple. So I press the Buy Book button and try to sign in with my existing apple id.
But then I end up in a menu called "Create an Apple Account". The weird thing is that it shows data from my existing apple id (like the security question and more). Although I think this is incorrect itself I did try to continue, but it is stuck to this page.
Has anyone seen this behaviour?This problem has come up over and over again, and there is no easy solution:

For many posters it worked to simply go through the motions and enter the complete billing information again, and to make sure, the address, zip code etc. are valid entries.
This error message may be given, if your account uses a password that does not obey the password rules, or if your zip-code is wrongly formatted. Check your zip-code, if it has the correct number of digits. You may need to change your password at MyAppleID.

I bought my iphone from carephone warehouse, sim free and with no contract. 5 months down the line I had a problem with the phone and I booked a genius appointment, they swapped my phone and gave me a new phone but they locked my phone to tmobile!!! I now do not use tmobile and I have an iphone which is locked to tmobile!!! I bought an unlocked phone and apple have locked it!!! what can i do?
In response to this, Carphone Warehouse (and Phones4U) sell what is commonly referred to as "sim free" handsets - these are not the same as unlocked. Sim free handsets will automatically lock to the first network sim card that the phone is activated with, and that will be permanently. The only way to unlock the handset would be to go through the network (T-Mobile I understand) and request they unlock it for you. More than likely, there will be a charge as you are no longer a T-Mobile customer.
If you ever want to purchase a new unlocked iPhone, the only place you can buy one is from Apple directly. Any other place will most likely sell sim free handsets.
