I am a US citizen in school in Montreal and I was given a US Apple Store gift card. How can I buy the new iPad using my gift card and with a school discount?

I am a grad student from NYC and at a university in Montreal. I was given a 500$ gift card as a gift to put towards a new ipad. BUT, I apparently cannot use the US gift card in Canada. So, what do I do? I have no time to head back to NYC to get it. I want to order it, but not sure they will ship to montreal...? And was thinking of sending it back to my parents and then have them buy it and mail it to me, but I I think them having to pay tax on this is ridiculous. On top of that, I should be able to garner the ed discount but I dont think the US recognizes Canadian schools in their system and visa versa. SO if I do buy it in the US, I can use my gift card but I can't get the discount. Or if I buy it here in MTL, I can get the discount but I cannot use the gift card..
Can anyone suggest a solution? all bright ideas welcome.

You can only use a gift card in the country it was issued in - no way around that as the Apple Store does NOT offer currency exchange with gift cards.
Nor can you order from the USA online store and ship to any address outside of the USA - again, no way around that as the online stores do NOT ship internationally.
You could send the gift card back to someone in the USA, to use to purchase your item for you, and then once they receive it, they could ship it to you. Canada customs will hold it until they collect any import fees and taxes levied on imported consumer electronics though.
Either that or buy it in Canada with the discount, and use the card later when you get home again.

If you had your bank refuse the charge as fraudulent, the iTunes Store probably blocked your credit card as stolen. Go here:

Okay, so today I got a 15 dollar iTunes gift card. I used it on iTunes and it only put me up to $4.96. I had a prepaid credit card on my account at the time that iTunes was thinking the security code was invalid, that is why I got the iTunes card. What do I do in order to get the ten bucks back? I checked my recent purchases and it says I have not purchased anything in 3 days. I have contacted Apple Support and I will post what they say. Untill then, does anyone have any idea what I can do to get my money back? I retried entering my gift card but it is, as it should be, already been used.

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of doing so include clicking here and picking a method for your country, and filling out and submitting this form.

Generaly, if you have an iTunes card and a valid credit card, you have the option of charging your purchases to eiher one or the other? By default, it goes to your iTunes card, but you can override that.

I downloaded (11) ringtones yesterday on my iPad using a gift card and I cannot find them anywhere.

I downloaded (11) ringtones from iTunes yesterday from my iPad and cannot find them anywhere. I even assigned each ringtone to an individual in my contact file. When I sign into iTunes on my PC, it shows that I used all but .81 of my gift card that I used to purchase the ringtones, but under the "Purchased" tab, It's not showing anything. It's also not showing anything purchased in my "Library".

Try restarting the iPad (the red "swipe to power off", then power back on). That may get the movie to appear in the Videos app. If not, go here:

Or, if you already put the gift card on your account from your computer before iTunes stopped working on it, it should still be available to you from your iPod Touch. If you go into iTunes (on your iPod) and scroll to the bottom it should show you you're balance(:

Gift Cards and Certificates are valid for use only in the country in which they were purchased. Only residents of the U.S may redeem gift certificates purchased in the U.S.
You can still help them set up an Apple ID without payment information so that they can download free items through the iTunes store though. The steps for performing that can be found in the following article:
