Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Select "/var/log/install.log" from the file list. Post the messages from the last installation attempt, starting from the time when you launched the Installer or Software Update. Post the log text, please, not a screenshot.
If there are runs of runs of repeated messages, please post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.

Download iTunes using the tab at the top of this page. Then run the update with iTunes closed.

v10.5.8 is as far as Mac OS X Leopard can be upgraded to.
To run the latest version of iTunes you will need to upgrade to either v10.7 Lion or v10.8 Mountain Lion.

My mac computer will not update new software

My IMac is very old and is not under warranty anymore just for reference. I have taken my computer to an Apple Retailer to get major problems fixed before and the issue's subsided. But one problem is still here.
My IMac will not update new software, everytime I have attempted to update my software before and it does nothing, if the software happens to load and finish then when it says "to finish the update you will need to restart your computer" that is the problem, my computer cannot update new software because it does not restart properly and therefore cannot do any initail updating and it is becomming very fustrating. I have no idea what to anymore. I have pretty much just given up the fact that my computer is completely ancient.

What happens when you try?
Are you updating OTA or via iTunes?

having major problems trying to update new software to my iphone ...
every time i connect phone to itunes and click update, it comes up with a box saying backing up my iphone ... gets 3 quarters of the way through and jamms!!
can anyone help me with this and explain how to go about it ...

Hi Ryan,
Make sure the PC has the latest version of iTunes installed, currently 8.0.2.

Also, make sure the iPhone is directly connected to a high-speed USB port the PC using the cable that came with it.
If the issue persists, try restoring the iPhone from another user account as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275

- Powering off and then back on your router.
- iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
- Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
Public DNS — Google Developers
OpenDNS IP Addresses
- For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem
- Try on another computer/network
- Wait if it is an Apple problem

How can I undo this since i did not hit restore settings, yet i can't do any other move without restoring at this point. Any ideas?

You phone is in recovery mode. Your data is already gone.
Why you would attempt a software upgrade without backing up all your data first is beyond me, but to each his own.
In any case, sorry for your data loss.
