HT201363 I have a pin number and a thumbprint. Why is apple mining me for more information?

Why do I need to answer security questions to download a free app from the appstore? I've already used a pin number or thumprint to unlock my phone and I've provided my password when prompted in the appstore, so why do I then have to answer additional questions? Just seems like an excuse for Apple to mine personal information.

Help you what?
