That is a 5 year old update. What do you find when running software update?

You should also ask this in the MacBook Air forum. This is the forum for the white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

Seems to be a real issue. Here's to hoping Apple will address this issue sooner rather than later.

  • How to install Microsoft Office on MacBook Air?

I just bought my first ever Apple MacBook and I am realy having hard time with it.
Please someone tell me how to install the Microsoft Office 2011 on MacBook Air.
    Thank you so much!

Just go to MS Office, download a free trial, enter the product key from the MS Office software that you purchased, and voila!  So easy!
Does this solution work on different versions of software (in this case MS Office)?  I don't keep up with all the releases so the dates are probably wrong in the following examples.  Lets assume I owned MS Office 07 and I wanted to use your solution.  I assume the MS website DOESN'T offer free trials of outdated software.  So, I go on their website, download MS Office 2011 and then enter my product key from MS Office 2007.  Are you saying that will work?
Personally for me, I don't give two hoots about getting the latest MS Office. So, if I have a working copy of an earlier edition, that's the one I want to install.  And yes, for you NO-NO people, I do remove the software from my previous computers when I do this before I sell them.
Even if I could upgrade my previous version, I wouldn't want to as it would be a waste of my time during the learning curve.  In fact I'm paying this penalty now in that I'm using MS Office 08 that my wife bought (3 computer version) and insisted I put on my computer to help her on her's.  I was using MS Office 03 and hate the 08 pull down menus.  Since I use the program infrequently, I find myself staggering around trying to find this and that when with the '03 version, it would be simply click and done.

  • How to install Elements 11 on iPad Air? [was:Can someone help?]

How to install elements 11 that I purchased as a download and installed one copy to Mac desktop now I want to install second copy on new Mac iPad air. Can u help?

You cannot install any desktop software of your choosing on iPad Air - only apps specifically written for the iOS operating system and available via the Apple App Store.
Adobe desktop products - including Elements 11 - require the Mac OS X desktop operating system (e.g Mavericks etc). The iPad Air runs the Apple iOS mobile operating system. Software designed for OS X will not run on iOS and vice versa.
The only way to download and install software on the iPad is via the Apple App Store. That's an Apple restriction so they can control your iPad environment and get their cut of App Store sales.
Adobe mobile apps, including Photoshop Touch and Photoshop Express, for various mobile platform including iOS and Android are listed here
    http://www.adobe.com/products/catalog/mobile._sl_id-contentfilter_sl_catalog_sl_mobiledevi ces.html
That's the only Adobe software available for mobile devices, including iPad, so far. Lightroom Mobile is coming soon but it's not ready yet.
P.S. You can run Chrome on the iPad but, again you must download it from the App Store
    Chrome: https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/chrome/id535886823?mt=8
There's no Firefox for the iPad to my knowledge

Is the USB devices a USB2 or USB3 device? Please run Disk Utility Repair. In some cases, re-installing OS X (which does not modify your files) also addresses this issue.

  • How to install firmware for the WRT54G

I have downloaded the newest firmware for this router, but the file is a .bin. There is no .cue, .iso or other file associated with it. How do I open this file, or burn it?
I tried creating a .cue file using a .txt text editor:
    FILE "WRT54Gv5v6_v1.02.2_fw.bin" BINARY
    TRACK 01 MODE1/2352
    INDEX 01 00:00:00,
    and renamed it WRT54Gv5v6_v1.02.2_fw.cue
Roxio's Creator Classic will burn it to a CD, but when I try to load it by inserting the disk, the disk is blank - but shown as 100% used in raw format.
Any suggestions? Why would Linksys provide this firmware in this truly complicated format?

You point your browser at http://192.168.1.1/ This is the LAN IP address of the router inside your LAN. You can connect to this address when you are connected to the router. You don't need internet for that.
The router came with a firmware preinstalled. Without the firmware the router is just a piece of junk. The configuration program on the CD only sends settings to the working and operating router, i.e. a router which is running its firmware. You can update the firmware by uploading a new firmware file to the router. But there was no firmware on the CD nor was it installed anywhere during initial setup. The router came with a firmware otherwise you could not use it.
Just go to http://192.168.1.1/ and click on the Administration tab. The firmware upgrade function is somewhere on a subtab. You'll see a browse button with which you select the firmware file you downloaded before. Once you press the Upgrade button (please only do it if you really want to upgrade the firmware!) the browser sends the selected firmware file to the router where it will be installed after the router reboots itself.
There is no point installing it from a CD as you only have to transfer the file to the router. Burning it to a CD only to load it from the CD does not make a different. As you have mentioned it does not make a difference where the firmware file is. Only as you have to download it anyway and then just transfer it to the router there is no point in burning it on a CD. You upload it to the router and that's it. Afterwards you delete the file because you don't need it anymore and you can download the latest firmware from linksys.
When you write "DSL, cable and even VoIP modems" upgrading using any OS, did you ever do it? How exactly did you do it? Are you sure there is an updater for MacOS? Linux? Solaris? ... I think most modems will do it in a similar fashion using a browser upload.
I don't understand what the problem is with this kind of firmware upgrade for you. It works very well and is often used. Many devices have browser interfaces nowadays and thus it is only natural you do the firmware upgrades the same way. The router can be upgraded using tftp as well. However, there are a few pitfalls with this method and often you'll need a command line prompt to run it. But these are the only possibilities to send the firmware file to the router and somehow you have to get it there.

  • How to install Firmware 1.5

I got a notice in the Software Updater that Firmware 1.5 is available. I checked the install checkbox and clicked install 1 item. It downloads and then immediately checks for new software again. It says that Firmware 1.5 has been installed so I reboot and it says that the new Firmware 1.5 is available for download.
Firmware versions stays at MBP31.0070.B02 even though it just told me it successfully installed the latest.
How do I installed this thing?

After you finish the Software Update, it will say it successfully installed the update. But you're not done yet. At this point, if you quit the Software Update utility, you'll notice another application will launch:
    MacBookPro EFI Firmware Update
This application will pop open a window containing instructions on how to patch the firmware. You should read it yourself as I don't want to provide wrong instructions but the jist was that I needed to shutdown the laptop. Hold down the power key until you see the front suspend light flashing rapidly then let go. You'll hear a loud beep and then you'll see a gray apple screen with a progress meter. After that completes, the laptop reboots and after logging in, you'll see the MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update application run again and tell you it was successful (hopefully). Mine worked and afterwards System Profiler showed me the updated firmware version.
    Hope that helps.
Does anyone know what this firmware fixes? I've had continuing problems that have plagued me from time to time:
    a. Every so often the cursor starts tracking really slowly as if the CPU is pegged and only a reboot clears this issue. The Activity Monitor shows the CPU is hardly being used.
    b. I'm running Leopard and there are major screen refresh issues. Most of this is visible in Safari when attempting to two finger vertical scroll. The page doesn't refresh properly and smears.

  • How to install firmware upgrage (WRT54G2 v1)

I have Linksys model WRT54G2 v1, firmware 1.0.01. I have not changed any of the default settings (except at the Wireless tab, I have selected Disable -- two computers use the router, both are connected by cables, so I do not use the wireless capability). I have downloaded the file FW_WRT54G2V1_1.0.03.001_US_20090317.bin from this Linksys website. The file is on my Desktop now. My question: What do I do next? How do I install the upgrade? The release notes say only “Disconnect all wireless clients  …”. I can't find anything about upgrading firmware at the router's admin page (192.168.1.1). I don’t know how to run a file with the extension "bin". Thanks.
    Solved!

I found the answer on the site. For others who may have the same question, here is the URL

  • HT201364 how to install older apps?

How do I install older versions of Iphoto and other programs.  I installed a new hard drive in my 2006-2007 macbook.   Would like to reinstall some simple apps don't care if they are old.  I currently have snow leopard and unable to purchase maverick Apple doesnt allow me to purchase any newer operation systems and many programs on my dinosaur laptop.

Those dinosaur laptops generally got their software on CDs or DVDs, not by download. Reinstall the old programs from the same old CDs/DVDs.

  • How to install Firmware

    Hey,
where exactly do I save my downloaded version of firmware to? Will the desktop do? and is there anything else to do after I download it or does it automatically update my router?
    thanks

I always download it to the desktop because that makes it easy to find when you browse to it when you flash it.
when you access your router under the Administration tab (depending on your router model) there is a firmware sub tab and from there you "browse" to where you downloaded the .bin file then click the update button.

  • How to install firmware onto my SD card

    Hi y'all!
Running a mac with 10.8, and trying to update my SX280 HS so that the video lasts longer than four seconds. I have my SD card in my computer showing up as "CANON_DC", and I downloaded the firmware, but it won't let me drag/drop the firmware into the SD card file. Does anyone know a workaround for this? What am I doing wrong?
    Thank you!

Is the protect switch on the SD card engaged?
