i have mackbook pro model 2,2 core 2 duo 2.16 running osx10.6.8. i cant install mavericks?
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
OS X Mavericks requires a Mid 2007 or newer MacBook Pro. Open the Mac App Store and try to download OS X Mavericks. It will not let you if your Mac is older.
You have to stay at Mac OS X 10.6.8 or upgrade to OS X Lion > http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion Make a backup of your files with Time Machine and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com

Pawn shop! They only looked after it for a stranger then the ticket ran out. Will apple accept that sell-on as a bill of sale? I'll give you 50:50 chance on that. Did you see Apple recently refused to unlock an ipad left to a guy by his mother who died of cancer. Apple wanted a court order! (Til it got on the national TV news).
Someone will have to produce the original owner's bill of sale I reckon. -
I have MacBook Pro 2.2GHz Intel Core i7 (15-inch DDR3) Early-2011 and I want to upgrade RAM, What is the MAX RAM can I get it 8GB or 16GB?
Maximum Memory 16 GB (Actual) 8 GB (Apple)

I have an earlier model imac, the 2006 24inch and im running mac os x 10.5.8, i want to update my system to the newest mountain lion, what should i do first?
To clarify;
Snow Leopard 10.6;
Lion 10.7:
Snow Leopard DVD:
You can get it only by phone now from Apple.
In the US, call 1-800-MY-APPLE and ask for a sales assistant. Last quoted price was $19.99 for the single-user and $29.99 for the family licence.
For other countries, check here; http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
Don't forget to ask for Sales; the tech support guys can't help.
When you've installed SL it will be 10.6.3. You need to update that to 10.6.8 with the combo installer from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Lion is only available by phone also - same number and they'll give you a download code to use in the Mac App Store. -

I have a 2011 MBP running Mountain Lion. Tried to install Mavericks, but it keeps telling me " cannot install Mavericks because disc is used for Time Machine backup". I tried disabling TM by issuing the command in console " sudo tmutil disable local". Still no luck. Is there a way of erasing all the time machine backups from my system disc?
Thanks. Thanks Matt. I tried erasing the "Backups.backupdb" folder. It does not allow me to do that, inspite of "sudo"-ing. I ended up installing Mavericks on another disc, and use disc migration assistant to transfer my data, before swapping out the old disc from the MBP.

Since my macbook pro is an intel core duo but not a core 2 duo, I cannot upgrade to Yosemite. So... what OS X can I upgrade to with this computer? Thanks for the input.
Intel Core Duo is a 32-bit processor, so the latest Mac OS X version you can install is Mac OS X Snow Leopard -> http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
You are running Mac OS X 10.6.8, so you are already running the most recent Mac OS X version for your computer. -
I have a Mac 2 GHz Intel Core Duo running OS X 10.6.8. Can I upgrade to 10.7 on this Mac?
no, you need an intel core 2 duo or higher: http://support.apple.com/kb/sp629

I have 4GB ram running 10.7.5 . Would installing Mavericks make it easier to run apps such as VMware,Xcode and ADT(Eclipse)?
I fully agree with Barney-15E above.
Well if you are entertaing the idea why not up grade the OS
Then see for yourself how you use your Mac. You can always upgrade at that point.
RAM is the best bang for your buck.

802.11n Enabler Doesn't work with 17" MacBook Pro (2.16) Intel Core Duo
While I would believe that the computer does meet the requirements and that it does have the extreme card and after following the instructions -- checking the network utility ap, etc. It is very strange that you get a "Alert: Your computer does not meet the hardware requirements for this update." So you don't think that I am a fool, I did check the Network Utility and there is no "n" so it was never updated.
Is there any way to do this manually?
Thanks in advance. The Core Duo machines don't have the newer Extreme card whose chipset supports 802.11n.
You can do some potentially warranty-voiding surgery, however, to replace the MBP's stock card with the Mac Pro Airport Extreme Upgrade card, which supports 802.11n and is plug-compatible with the MBP's stock card. It's available for $49 from places like PowerMax and Small Dog. -
Upgrading of Ram for Macbook Pro 15" 2.16GHz core duo
hi,
anyone here could enlighten me whether i could upgrade my current MBP's Ram from 2 GB to 3 or 4GB? (20pin DDR2)
will there be any issue to my system if i also upgrade my internal Hardisk which is currently a SATA 100GB 7200rpm to maybe a SATA 300GB?We would have to know which MacBook Pro you have. The most current versions support up to 4GB. The previous Core 2 Duos support up to 3GB. The original Core Duos support up to 2GB.
So far as upgrading your drive. The drive is not considered user replaceable. If you damage something while upgrading your drive, it will not be covered under your warranty (provided your warranty is still in effect). Also... if something fails down the road that requires you send it back to Apple... and they realize you have installed a new drive, there is a chance they may not cover it under warranty either... as there would be no way to tell that the upgrade you had done did not cause a problem that just took some time to show up. -
Should I fit a SSD or a HD in Macbook Pro 15" 2.4 core duo
I want to fit a new drive in my Macbook Pro 15" 2.4 GHz core duo, Is it worth the extra money to put in a SSD 520GB or would a 1TB or 750GB HD work just as well. Also I notice that there is a SSD/HD Hybrid available from Crucial will this work.

The Seagate Hard Drive / SSD Hybrid 750GB Sata 600 2.5" 32MG hybrid 8GB SSD is the one I have looked at but I am not sure what this spec means, does it use the benefits of SSD linked to the HD capacity?
Those drives are horrible. Search the forums. You'll find many people where their drives have failed. -
