HT201364 I'm a Mac Os X 10.7.5 user

  • Mac book AIR or Mac book PRO for Autocad light user

Mac book air or mac book pro with autocad?
Hello everyone, i am trying to decide wheter to buy a Mac book AIR 13 inch or the mac book PRO 13 inch. I am an architech switching from office to MAC, and i am a light user of AUTOCAD.
in AUTOCAD I only use 2d, i dont use any 3d or modeling or rendering in Autocad, i only use simple drawing features of autocad.
I dont want to buy a 15 " because it is much heavier, i carry my laptop around all (i have a back problem, so the AIR would be amazing, but i dont know if it would run smoothly
    So my 2 choices are:
    1) AIR: 13" 1.7ghz dual core intel i5, 4gb, intel hd graphics 3000, not sure if 128gb or 256gb hard disk
    2) PRO: 13" 2.3 ghz, dual core intel i5, 4gb,  intel hd graphics 3000, 320gb
    Thanks for you help!!

My preference is the Pro because there are more port options with the MBP.

  • What does the Mac App store mean for existing users of Aperture?

I was wondering how the Mac App store will affect existing users of the software. I have purchased Aperture and upgrades since its launch but because I've not purchased through the App store, how will I gain access to future upgrades?
When I go to the Aperture app in the store it shows as being installed but as I've not purchased it through the store, will I be eligible for future upgrades or will Apple expect me to purchase again?

There is no way Apple can update Aperture 3 without offering that update to every user, regardless of where the app was purchased. So, expect that Aperture 3.1.2 or whatever will be available to you in some fashion.
When the next paid Upgrade (to Aperture 4?) comes along, then we'll have to see what arrangements the offer.
    Regards

After updating to Mavericks on my Mac Book Pro I have 3 user accounts, all me and all admins. I have gone to system preferences>users & groups and tried to select the users I want to delete and press - to get rid of them, but it wont even let me click on them or select them in any way.

Are you trying to install a 32 bit or 64 bit version of Windows 8?
Which versions of Windows are supported with Boot Camp 5?
64-bit versions of Windows 8 and Windows 7 are supported using the Boot Camp 5 Support Software. If you need to use a 32-bit version, you need to use Boot Camp 4 Support Software, and you must use Windows 7. 32-bit versions of Windows 8 are not supported via Boot Camp.

10.7.5 was the last update to Lion.
You can try resetting the App Store.
    Reset       Learned from Old Toad
Look in your Purchases tab in the App Store. Does it show as purchased?
Browsers shouldn't have anything to do with it.
There is troubleshooting section and a contact link.

    sudo pmset -a hibernatemode x
ändert man den Modus. (x steht hierbei für eine obigen Zahlen.)
Falls mit Deep Sleep Probleme mit dem normalen Hibernate (Standby) auftreten kann dies durch
    sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 3
    wiederhergestellt werden.
    i found on
    MacUser.de
now go i go on trying first at system Security preferences as stated out to 5 –.

    Thank you!

Re: Mac Pro's (early 2008) Back up plan towards a possible OS upgrade to Yosemite  in response to Juan Huerta
All new drives need to be partitioned GUID and formatted Mac OS Extended, Journaled before they can be used.
OK, is that an option I'll be prompted to by the OS or do I have to "tell" that to...Disk Utilities (?)
If cloning is your purpose then use Disk Utility's Restore option. It will clone the drives and their Recovery HD partitions automatically.
I didn't know that Disk Utility had an option for cloning a bootable drive...is it better than CCC? (I have used neither one) I really would like to save $40 and avoid downloading additional software/applications...please if you don't mind...what option would that be once I click on "Disk Utility"? If you know of a good link or reliable article on the topic that will work for me too.
Test a clone be trying to boot the computer from it.
Any bootable drive in any bay can be used to boot the computer. Use Startup Drive preferences to set the desired boot volume.
Erase the target and try again.
But if the computer fails to start because I didn't create a good copy, how do I go back? Keyboard shortcuts? I keep reading that a wired keyboard must be used...and that's scary. If that's true, could I hook up any of my Windows based keyboards via USB?
Erase the drive and install OS X. You cannot use any software installed by the prior owner that was purchased via the App Store including OS X. You must start from scratch. (this actually is 5B rather than item 6.)
Well, he created an Admin account for me and I have been handling updates and everything with the new password he created for me. I wonder if I could access the Apple Store with my ID though...it's all under my name in that computer though, so I figure that at the Apple Store I'd just enter my ID...I guess, I have not tried that yet
    Yes.

  • HT201364 Unhappy (vintage?) Mac OS 10.6.8 user

I own a Macbook late 2006 which i have upgraded to 2gb and 500gb; i own an iphone 4gs and an Ipad 1.
I don't have icloud on my macbook (my latest available OS is 10.6.8) so all my syncs are a mess; i cannot download icloud app separately and cannot upgrade to OS Mavericks, even though it is free and my computer has the necessary requirements after its upgrades.
I am very happy with how my macbook performs, I don't need another computer and don't want to trash this one for a few feats (it doesn't seem very GREEN to me changing a computer every other year when i don't need to).
I am very UNHAPPY with what seems a strategy to renovate working computers, it hurts your relationship to faithful customers who are not willing to buy something new every other year.
I don't see the advantage of buying a computer that is more expensive than the rest of the market, but lasts the same amount of time.
If you could only let me (us, i think there are more out there) get Icloud as a free app to upgrade the deceased Mobile me, at least it would be useful.
    Hope somebody reads this.

You're not left out "for a year only."  There are some pretty significant changes between the 2006 and the 2007 MacBook Pro.  Mainly the whole subsystem on the 2007+ models is 64-bit, and the 2006 model is 32-bit.  Mountain Lion and later are pure 64 bit from the EFI layer on up, so it's just not technically possible.
Also, to be fair, you say "forced to upgrade every other year."  Your system is SEVEN YEARS OLD now, so that seems a bit hyperbolic
There is a very real cost to Apple to continuing to support systems that are half a decade old and more.  The technology of the computers changes and advances (it's not just higher CPU speeds and new RAM, but all sorts of new chipsets for things like Thunderbolt, new WiFi technologies that enable AirPlay and AirDrop with no CPU cost, etc.,) and having hugely fragmented feature sets across machines to support machines that are 7 years old is rough.  You should have seen the number of complaints in these forums when AirPlay didn't work on machines built in 2010 (there were real reasons for this as well).
Lion may work for you to get iCloud.  Or a new 13" MacBook Air at $1500 every 7 years averages out to just over $200/year for a computer.  That's pretty inexpensive.

  • HT201364 i only have Mac OS X 10.6.1 how do i upgrade?

I have had my Macbook since 2010 and am having problems upgrading my software.
it has OS X 10.6.1 and this doesn't support upgrades.
    Can anyone offer any advice?

Use Software Update to get 10.6.8 (and any other available updates) on your machine . You can move to 10.9.x from there.

  • Photo gallery page from iWeb '08 doesn't work for Mac OS X 10.3.9 user?

I have recently published a photo gallery page with comments on using iWeb '08 (latest update). Displays fine for me and apparently a lot of other mixed-platform users. But one user is saying that his eMac with Mac OS X 10.3.9 and the Safari of the day don't display the pictures. He gets the banner and background image for the gallery, but not the actual pictures. I asked him to try Firefox, but so far no reply on that.
Do the older versions of Safari work with content from iWeb '08?

The only thing missing when viewed using older browsers is those features that require newer Web browser software.
It was no different when AOL went from version 3 to version 4.
The very complex javascript files written by iWeb 2 still allow older browsers view (limited features) view the basic parts of your pages.
Unfortunately this is not true. On an iMac G4 10.3.9 using Safari you cannot even view the photos, the photo page or even the web gallery itself. You just get a warning. Had I known that my friends and family would have a problem viewing photos I would have passed on the update. I don't expect my Father to upgrade his system to view photos from the "user friendly" Apple programs. That's why we got him an iMac to begin with. I find iLife 08 a very poor release from Apple and more trouble than it is worth.
It was no different when AOL went from version 3 to version 4.
I didn't know AOL even still existed, that alone upgraded!? (haha)
+The images should load but many of the Web 2.0 features will not work (image rollover viewing, changing dimensions or background colors).+
But Kirk, they don't, none of them! and this kind of stuff just seems crazy to some of us. I wish that Apple would TELL US or advertise the facts like, Oh, you only get ONE gallery for each user on Web Gallery (useless) and Oh, you will not be able to edit 06 iWeb pages with 08 iWeb and the iLife 08 version of iPhoto you will not be able to view these galleries without upgrading to the latest Safari web browser. Yes we always expect some bugs with a major update but this is getting ridiculous.
I have not yet had anybody try downloading the newest version of Firefox that will work with 10.3.9. Do you know if that will make a difference? Thanks for your help.

  • I need to deny the use of usb devices on MACs and Macboks for non admin users. Can this be done?

I am new to MACs and have been tasked with providing new users with Macs and MacBooks. I have been told that the CIO does not want the users to be able to transfer data from the machines to any devices via the usb port, but to allow the support staff the use of the same usb ports.
I thought of just changing permissions and allow only the administrators access, but am not sure if this would work.
Help!! lol... I need to do this "YESTERDAY" as my CIO would put it.
    Thanks for your help!

Your CIO is asking the wrong question. What about FireWire ports? What about AirDrop? However, if you need to go through the motions of placating him, search for "Removing USB Support Software" in this document:

  • Cannot see all folders on remote Mac, even when "Connect As" admin user

Shouldn't an "admin user" be able to see all folders, including Desktop, Documents, etc. of other users? I'd like to be able to see all folders.

    I don't think so.
    Try this.
On your Mac, in Finder, click on the top item in Sidebar, Macintosh HD
    Now open Users
Now click on a user that is not you.
If your system is like mine, you will see red dots on most of the folders, meaning you do not have access to them.
If you can't do it locally, then it's probably not possible to do it remotely.
An administrator account does not have universal privileges.
