I read that it is not on Snow Leopard only on Leopard....so do I need to get only Leopard? Can u advise?

I have a 3 year old MacBook Pro with MAC OSX 10.6.8, iPhoto ’09 version 8.1.2 and have downloaded two software programs: one is Aperture 3.2 and the other is Photoshop Elements 9 (which I got from a friend who didn’t need it).
I am totally happy with the way iPhoto organizes my photos and how I can work with iMovie to create slide shows with music from iTunes, etc.
I have been shooting mostly high resolution jpegs and I continue to learn more and more about photography, post processing etc. I realize that the small adjustments I can make in iPhoto are good, and are adequate most of the time. However, a have started to experiment with shooting RAW images and would like to go the next step, ie. post processing.I am totally technically challenged and need SIMPLE, INTUITIVE programs and am certainly NOT anywhere ready for Photoshop CS whatever!
After having these programs sit on my computer, I decided to try to see if I could figure them out. When I opened Aperture, this is what first comes up.

Upgrading a library from previous versions of Aperture 3 generally takes a few minutes or less, though larger libraries will take longer. After that, Aperture 3.2 will upgrade your library's thumbnails, but you can use the application during that time.
Tip: To open a different library, quit Aperture and hold the Option key down while starting Aperture

I have heard horror stories about moving your entire library to Aperture, ending up with 2 libraries, etc. etc. hence my previous reluctance in attempting Aperture. In addition, many of my photography friends are saying: Go with Lightroom 3.....you’ll love it!
So here is my dilemma. I don’t want to mess around with my iPhoto library. All I want to be able to do, is to isolate a few photos, export them to Aperture, Elements, and work on them there, then bring them back into iPhoto.
Can I do this? Should I forget about Aperture and Elements and look at purchasing yet another program like Lightroom?Export those few photos via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option with Kind = Original to the Desktop. Then import them into the Aperture library. That would keep one copy in your iPhoto library and another in your Aperture library to edit, etc.
You can use Photoshop Elements 9 from within iPhoto as your editor of choice. However, if you edit a raw file in iPhoto with PSE9 the resulting edited version must be saved outside the iPhoto Library and imported back in as a new file. For editing jpegs just do a Save (not a Save As) and it all will be kept within iPhoto.
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always. In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note: to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

Do you have your system backed up to Time Machine? If so, you can open your user Library and copy your Mail folder from Time Machine to your Desktop on your new machine; then copy THAT folder to your new machine's user Library.
To get to your user Library, open Finder and Go and press the Option key. Library will show up. Click on it to get into your user Library. Now go into Time Machine and you should see your user Library for Time Machine. Restore the Mail folder to your Desktop. -

Not sure what exactly you did (or not), but it looks as if you should attempt doing it all again, only this time all right and by the book. Many millions have done so, and sure it'll work for you as well.

I have a MacBook Pro with Lion Preinstalled, so AHT was present on the hard disc and worked when the product was new. One of the first things I did from new was run AHT and it worked fine. But now it doesn't start - instead the machine (eventually) boots into normal OS X.
Holding down "D" no longer starts Apple Hardware Test! Any idea what's happened and how I fix it? Or do I need to go to the Genius Bar?

Option-D works for an Internet-based AHT. However that only works with an internet connection. It doesn't seem to download it and install it - it needs internet every time.
Any idea how my local copy of AHT disappeared? I haven't repartitioned the drive or knowingly deleted anything. And how do I reinstate it (because if you need AHT your hardware problems may preclude internet access!)? -

To start in Internet Recovery, hold Command, Option (Alt) and R keys while your computer is starting. Before installing Lion, you have to erase the hard drive, so open Disk Utility, choose the hard drive at the top of the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the hard drive. Need help reinstalling OS X on my used Macbook pro

I'm totally new to the macbook, but my company does iOS apps and I want to broaden my knowledge base. So I bought a mid 2010 macbook pro on ebay last week. When I got it I realized the previous user still had files on the device. I also realized that she had left the screen lock password protected and I didn't know it. I decided at this point to wipe all the data on the hard drive and start fresh. At this point I then tried to reinstall OS X Lion. I follow all the steps and it asks me to enter my app store id and password. When I did this, a popup tells me "This Apple ID has not purchased OS X Lion". Fine, I need to buy a license, fair enough so I buy a license from the App store for Lion. Two days later I get the encrypted pdf with a redemption code and here's where my problem is, I have no way to redeem the code. I tried to download the OS again and got the same error message. I assume this is because I didn't redeem the code. But how do I redeem this code if the macbook doesn't have an OS on it to run the mac app store? Anybody have any suggestions?Ask the person who sold it to you for the original disks, or phone AppleCare and order replacements. Once you've installed 10.6.3, update it to 10.6.8 and redeem the code.

I cannot get my iPad 2 (brand new) to work with my MacBook pro. It says I need iTunes 7.0, but when I go to update iTunes on my MAC, it says I have teh latest version 10.6.3. I have Mac OS 10.5.8 on my MacBook Pro. Any help would be appreciated. Do I need to upgrade my OS? If so, which version?
In order to download iTunes 10.7, which requires OS X 10.6.8, you have to buy OS X 10.6. It's available from the online Apple store, in the US by calling 800-MY-APPLE, or online here. After OS X 10.6 installation, run Software Update until there are no more updates available, at which point you'll be at OS X 10.6.8 and can install iTunes 10.7.

ThanksIt depends how you do it. If you do the auto update - i.e. you download Lion and let Mac OS do everything for you, then the answer is 'No'. It will try to install all apps that are compatible with Lion.

I have a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard OS 10.6.8 but want to upgrade to Lion. My Mac that has an Intel Core Duo Processor (I know really outdated huh) but to upgrade to Lion OS X I need an Intel Core2 Duo. Can I upgrade or will it mess it up?
It actually shouldn't allow you to upgrade. Your configuration should be detected and then it should reject your attempt to upgrade.

I've installed Lion over Snow Leopard and all my non Apple software is still here - you may want to check if your software will work with Lion and I would definately recommend having a bootable backup in case anything goes wrong

I want to upgrade to Mavericks. Will I need to reinstall all of my apps and copy my files back to the hard drive? I have not installed an OS on a Mac before and I'm wondering whether it is as involved as on a PC.
Short answer: You do NOT have to reinstall all your apps and copy your files back.
Longer answer: Upgrading the OS does not touch any user files. Upgrading the OS should not interfere with any applications which are compatible with Mavericks. In my experience non-Apple apps are generally left unchanged by the upgrade. It is possible that some apps may need to be upgraded. One good resource for checking application compatibility is RoaringApps.
Finally, it is always wise to backup everything, just in case.
