Because there is a flaw in the App Store that gives you an alert you can never ever get rid of telling you to download Mavericks, even though when you click it then tells you your machine is too (I have to say 'darn' here because Apple automatically astersiks out the first word I used that also begins with d and is four letters) old. So you have to live with that little "1 update available" alert, though in reality, you cannot install it. You can imagine that either it is a sinister plot to wear away at you to buy some new hardware, even though yours is working just fine, or that it is a programming error Apple just doesn't care enough about to correct.

I started the download for the itunes update, but before it completed, it said there was an error. I then went to open itunes, and the message came up that itunes was not installed on my computer. Did I lose everything?
Hello llblake,
Fortunately, the process of installing or updating iTunes should not affect your library. The following articles can help with getting iTunes properly updated and stabilized.

Hi, I am trying upgrade to Snow leopard 10.6.8 from 6.3(trying to install Lion). After downloading the software i m getting a message "can not install on the HD, install 6.5 before proceeding further. I coud not understand. Any suggestions, I appreciate.
install 6.5 before proceeding further. I coud not understand.
Just what it says - install os 10.6.5 before proceeding further. You can either do so through Software Update or use the Combo update from Apple's download site.
You should repair permissions and restart your computer prior to updating and upgrading. -
I am trying to install a registered copy of Photoshop Lightroom that I never installed on my Apple iMac with software version 10.10.
I get the message “Adobe Lightroom 1. Cannot be installed on this disk because a newer version of this software already exists on this disk”
If it is here – I cannot find it anywhere, and I don’t believe that I ever installed it.
I have ordered the upgrade to Lightroom 5.0 and figured that I should install Lightroom 1.0 first.
How can I solve this problemActually when LR 5 starts for the first time after it is installed it will have a dialog to Buy, Try or Enter a serial number. You select Enter a serial number and enter the LR 5 serial number first and then because it is an upgrade serial number it will ask for the serial number of a Previous version. You then enter the LR 1 serial number.

How can I download and read a SWF file on IPad 2? The message returned is that Safari cannot download that file
SWF files are flash files, which are not supported on the iPad : http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/
If you want to play the file then the iSwifter or Skyfire browser apps might work (they don't work on all flash sites) but you won't be able to download it -
After a hard-drive crash, Pages application was brought over from the old hard drive, and upgraded to snow leopard. However, Pages would not launch. I do not have the disks and the computer was given to me by my son with iWork 08 installed, so I do not have the ability to re-install using Purchases. I re-installed the update 3.0.3, which I already had, but thought it worth a try. That enabled Pages to launch, but it will not open a new or old document. I can see in preview the document, but it will not open. Any suggestions besides repurchasing Pages. I've just put out a lot of money for a new hard drive and retrieval of apps and docs from the old hard drive and would like not to have to put more money in it.
Thanks for any suggestions. You can not simply drag over Pages, particularly if it was perhaps damaged in a crash.
As it was only Pages '08 it may be time to upgrade to Pages '09 from the App Store. It is not that expensive and will allow you to install it on any Mac sharing the same Apple I.D. and protect you from a repeat of this problem.
There are free alternatives to Pages if you are hard strapped, it depends on what you are using Pages for, it is not the only option by far.

Should I take the plunge and upgrade to Snow Leopard?
I have a MacBook Pro with 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4GB memory.
I have just upgraded my printer after the last one died, so now have no real reason stopping me to upgrade to Snow Leopard. The question is though, is there any real good reason to do so?
With 4GB of RAM I'm probably not going to get any benefit from the 64bit architecture, so I'm wondering whether I'm better off just waiting until the release of OS X 10.7?
Any thoughts? My vote, Upgrade. It is great. Among many other things, the one thing that is noticeable and also impressive is the speed at which everything happens in SL. Way quicker than previous OSs. Also, some apps are upgraded like preview, image capture etc.
You might want to look at the reviews from last year.

I am running Vista and this is my first time trying to download ITunes. The only Apple device that has been connected is my wife's I Phone 3G.

If you have Snow Leopard do not forget the Additional Information paragraph. -

Completely compatable, I just upgraded my iPhone through it yesterday. But as these are the Lion Forums, you may be better places posting this in the iPhone Forums as well.
Good Luck

I re-installed by OS on my MacBook Pro, the tried upgrading to Snow Leopard
Only to receive a message saying that it cannot be installed in this computer.....WTW?, I bought that CD fair and square from the A-Store
Should I even bother going into Mountain Lion?
I am currently running: Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L31a) with a Darwin 9.8.0 Kernel....
Thoughts......comments....I had a similar issue long ago. I dont remember exactly what apple explained the issue as...but I can tell you exactly what I did.
1. Back up. I backed up my entire machine using time machine (suggest an external harddrive, but the cloud system could work (though most if not all are paid)
2. Go to an apple store
I took my comp and install disk to them and they removed the internal drive, took it to the back, and returned with the new OS installed.
(This is abit of a pain if you have a desktop)
you could presumibly bring the drive itself but I wouldnt suggest it unless you know what your doing.
Several people at my school had a similar issue, and I'm guessing its just upgrading from 10.5 ->10.6 as thats the only time Ive ever had an issue with changing OS -
I have been trying to download l OS X Mavericks to upgrade from snow leopard. I had a miss download right now in my tool bar there is a OS X Mavericks Icon that says-Waiting... this has been there for 4 hours when I click on it, cancel donwload? or (pause grayed out) or the options. I have tried this 6 times. I used the app in the Mac App Store. thanks KJG43
The installer is over 5Gb's and could take many hours to download.
Check the download status in the App Store application. -
I want to download the Mavericks installer so I have a backup installer that does not require the internet. Although, the App Store button allows me to download, I get a message that Mavericks cannot be installed on this computer.
Computer is late 2013 retina MBP 13" with lots of memory.
My OS is 10.9.1 (13B3116) currently running.
Is the App Store version of Mavericks too old (jan 16) for my rMBP?
RickJudging by the build number, it appears you have a special build of Mavericks installed and the App Store version (13B42) won't work with your computer.
Kappy - if I try to download Mavericks I get the message below, so apparently I can down load it again?
I also have a copy of the installer in my Applications folder, although it is in a folder. -
HT201364 Mavericks won't download even after upgrading to Snow Leopard.
I just upgraded to Snow Leopard on a Mac OS 10.6.8 and still Mavericks won't download.
Memory - menu About This Mac will show you the memory.
Space remaining - make your hard drive visible in Finder's sidebar using Finder/Preferences/General if it is not already there and then select it. Do a Get Info (command - I) and the available space will be shown.
What happens when you click download in the App Store? If you look at the App Store Purchases tab does it show there? -
Upgrade from Snow Leopard to Maverick in order to download Safari 6?
I'd like to download Safari 6 but I don't think I have enough memory (2 GB) on my MacBook with Snow Leopard to download Maverick, which apparently I need to do in order to get Safari 6. Is this correct?
You are correct that you have the minimum amount of RAM tp install Mavericks of 2 GB. Most everyone says 4 GB is a more realistic amount.
Why do you feel that you need to upgrade Safari? -
Why is it taking so long to download the upgrade from snow leopard v10.6.8 to os X Mavericks?
Because the file is over 5 GBs. If your internet service is slow then it can take a long time - several hours.
