  • Can i install mac osx back again after installing windows 7 on my mac book a1181?

i have apple mac book a1181 white, but i had problem logging on as it was secured by a password, and i allready lost my recovery dvd, so i installed windows 7 on my mac book a1181 by deleting its partition from GTP to NTFS but i experienced problems after installing windows 7 as sound was not comming as i could not find sound drivers for macintosh, so now i plan again to restore my apple macbook a1181 back by reinstalling mac osx 10.5.8, how can i again install mac osx on my notebook and is it possible to re-install mac on my notebook? please give me some help.

Insert your OS X install disc and restart holding the C key, hold it down until you see the Apple logo and spinning gear. Choose your language and at the next screen from the top menu bar select Utilities-Disk Utility. Select your internal hard drive, click on the Partition tab and select 1 partition. Click on the Options button and select GUID partition scheme. Click OK. Choose to format the drive as Mac OS Extended Journaled. When Disk Utility is done and your drive is properly partitioned and formatted quit DU and go back to the installer screen and reinstall OS X. When you're up and running run software update a couple times to get everything up to date as far as you can with 10.5.8. Then consider upgrading to OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard for $19.99 here http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard

  • Connecting extenal monitor to Mac Book A1181

Have been trying to connect my A1181 mac book to a LG W1943TB monitor using a Mini DVI-VGA adapter, when its fired off all I get are the random coulured dots. I was told I would have to download the video drivers into my A1181. I have not found the download, is there such a thing? Thanks
    Best Regards,
    George

You've got a few choices to make, based as usual on budget. Assuming you're using DV-rez foootage, in ascending price your options are:
    1. You camera is probably all you need - attach it via Firewire, as you will to digitise your footage, then attach the analog video out to your TV (there'll be a connector that ends in three RCA's). Cost = $0 if you have a camera.
    2. Buy an external firewire breakout box, like a Canopus, Sony or PyroAV. Connect it to your computer, then to the TV via the RCA'S as above. Cost ~$200.
    3. Buy an internal video card for your MacPro from Decklink or Aja (there are others). These are professional cards and will connect to your TV as before. Cost = $300 to $3000.

  • Mac Book A1181 BLACK (13-inch Late 2006)

    Hi,
I'm looking into upgrading my old Macbook and would greatly appreachiate some help with that.
The machine is a black Macbook from late 2006 with a 13" Screen. It has the 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor and 1Gb 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
It is currently running Mac Os X 10.4.11, but I have ordered the Snow Lion System 10.6
    (http://store.apple.com/at/product/MC573D/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard)
and would like to upgrade to that.
The reason for this is that some websites stopped working with 10.4 and the computer runns quite slow.
Now here are my questions: can I install the snow leopard system directly on a new Hard drive or do I have to install it on the old disk first?
I would like to upgrade also the hard drive and ram. Can I use any 2.5" Sata disk with a height of 9.5mm? And what about the ram chips, I understand that I can use at most 2GB on this machine?
Will these upgrades make the system run faster and more stable?
    Thanks for helping me out!

You can upgrade from 10.4 straight to 10.6 with no problems as long as you have at least 1gb of RAM. Any program that runs under 10.4 should run under10.6. See this list for third party programs compatibility with 10.6: http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/  You might have to upgrade some drivers for printers, etc.... And you will have to install Rosetta if you have any Power PC applications
    http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/snow_leopard_installing_rosetta/
I recently upgraded an older MacBook (Early 2006 model 1,1) straight from 10.4 to 10.6.
To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

  • A1181 Mac Book Folder with ? when trying to boot up

I have a 2006 A1181 Mac Book when booting up shows a folder with a ? mark. I don’t have the operating system that came with it. I replaced the hard drive and tried holding down the C key and inserting disk ver 10.4 still will not boot up. I can borrow and use OS 10.5.8 will this work or what Disk can I use.
    Thanks Fred

If your on 10.5 with a Intel Mac, I think Apple has jinxed the firmware so you can't boot from the 10.5 disk anymore.
So far several people, myself included, can't boot from a 10.5 OS X disk on a Intel Mac.
Your going to have to buy a 10.6.3 Snow Leopard retail disk, it's wayyy better than 10.5 anyway, faster and most stable even better than Lion. Have to buy iLife though as it doesn't come on the 10.6.3 retail disks, only free with grey disks.

When trying to download Mavericks it says it cannot be loaded onto this machine? Strange as I have just downloaded Pages, Numbers and Keynote...free? Thanks and Regards
    Brian

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You already have got OS X Mavericks installed (the Keynote, Pages and Numbers versions available in the Mac App Store are only compatible with OS X Mavericks).
You have got a Late 2013 MacBook Pro, which uses a special OS X Mavericks version that is not available in the Mac App Store. This is the reason why the Mac App Store is not compatible with OS X Mavericks even if you are using it. This will be fixed in OS X 10.9.1, when your Mac uses the same Mavericks version as all other Macs.
Until then, you can reinstall OS X through OS X Recovery > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718

Go up to the black Apple icon (upper left hand corner of the top menu bar).
Click on it once, and your first choice is "About this Mac."
Select that, and what version operating system does it say you are running?

  • HT201364 What is the change betwen mac book late 2006 and mid 2007 ?

What is the change betwen mac book late 2006 and mid 2007 that couses the OS X Mavericks not to run on it?

Neither the 2006 or 2007 MacBooks will run Mavericks, nor will the white plastic cased 2008 models. The oldest MacBook that will run Mavericks is the Aluminum case Late 2008 one.
Looking at the specs, I think that is because prior to the aluminum 2008 model, all MacBooks used less powerful Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) graphics processors with (at most) 160 MB of available video memory. AFAIK, neither Intel nor Apple ever released 64 bit drivers for these GMA graphics processors, so when OS X dropped support for booting into 32 bit mode in Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8) that meant the newest OS these MacBooks could support was Leopard (OS X 10.7), the last version to support 32 bit mode.
It is also likely that the GMA's, with their limited memory & support for parallel processing, can't effectively support technologies like Grand Central Dispatch that system services in the newer OS versions increasingly rely on to speed up more than graphics rendering.
So, even if one could find a 64 bit driver for the GMA's, the system probably would be too slow at too many things to be practical. (Personally, I have a while 2008 MacBook, & I think the "best fit" OS for it is Snow Leopard. As far as I'm concerned, Lion is basically a beta version of Mountain Lion with too many rough edges & limited user choice to run on mine.)

  • I have mac book OS X 10.4.11 (processor 2 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo and memory 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM). To which newer version can I update and how?

I have mac book OS X 10.4.11 model No.A1181 (processor 2 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo and memory 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM). To which newer version can I update and how?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You can upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard, and then, you should be able to use OS X Lion.
First, buy Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard Then, make a backup of your data, insert the Snow Leopard disc and upgrade to Snow Leopard.
The disc will install Mac OS X 10.6.3, so open  > Software Update to install 10.6.8, the most recent Snow Leopard version.
See if your Mac is supported > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4949 If you see that it's compatible, call Apple to buy OS X Lion > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 Also, check if your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com

  • Mac book won't boot, flashing question mark

i have a mac book, dont know what OS but it says 2007 model no. A1181 on the back.
when i turn it on it just flashes with a picture of a file and a question mark inside it, it does not go away or boot up.
    i have read this: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1440
but it does not explain what i have to do if the OS does not boot after the question mark is displayed.
what do i have to do to get it working again? if this is the wrong section please move it thanks.

this shows up when a bootable drive cannot be found, the boot drive is damaged, or the internal drive doesn't have an os installed at all.
how long have you owned the mac? pull the battery out & look for the serial tag in the battery bay. did you have a 60gb or 80gb drive?
you can try the suggestions in that KB article, but I fear that the drive has totally failed on you. there was an issue with these hard drives, the heads ruin the surface of the platters, making the drive totally useless & data recovery impossible.
hoping you had some sort of recent backup.
