HT201364 MacBook Pro has DNS problems. Need to Download new OS, but can't.
I need to download on another computer since my I can't download from my MacBook, but I only have one old desktop with not enough space or a Windows laptop. I want to download it onto a thumb drive on one of those machines. How can I do that?
It would make a lot more sense to fix the "DNS problems," whatever they are, but if for some reason you can't do that, and you also can't free up about 5 GB of space on your other Mac (which doesn't have "DNS problems"?), then you'll have to install OS X on an external drive, boot from it, and then download the Mavericks installer. You can't download it directly to a secondary volume.

I received a 2012 MacBook Pro INtel i7 for my birthday this May 2013. It constantly drops my airport connection. My ancient 2006 MacBook Pro has no problem connecting to airport, nor staying connected. I've had to write this message several times as I keep losing the airport connection and have to reconnect. BTW: I am less than five feet from the airport base.
Thanks for help. After trying all of the above the suggestions, the problem returned as before. However, after digging some more I discovered that the issue appears to lie with the 10.4.10 version of the Mac OS; when I checked the software log under the system profiler I noticed that I had installed that update at about the time my Airport problems began. Apple then quietly released a v 1.1 combo update to 10.4.10 on July 2nd, which once installed appears to have resolved the problem. You can find the download at http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10410comboupdatev11intel.html
What's curious is that originally Apple listed that the v 1.1 combo update resolved some issues with RAW image data, and some sound problems, which don't seem to have anything to do with Airport. -
My mid 2010 MacBook Pro has the maximum 8 GB memory cards installed. Can it be upgraded to 16 GB? Are there compatible 8 GB cards available?
I have a similar question.. 13" macbook pro, mid 2010- having problems with spinning beach ball.. like someone from Mars has taken over the computer.. - the specs are below.. would it help if I added more RAM? If yes, any suggestions where/ what to buy? This only started after upgrade to Mountain Lion from SNL.

My new MacBook Pro has display problems
I am new to Mac. I had purchased a brand new MacBook Pro 13 inches with i7 processor on April2 this year, Within 10 days the display screen started to grey out and later on develop horizontal lines. I telephoned Apple support and when a telephonic solution became unlikely I was asked to take it to an Apple Authorized service centre in my town. The technician there could not clearly explain to me what was wrong with the system, but I understood him to say that he has reinstalled the graphics driver and the system was trouble free for a prolonged time thereafter (at the service centre). I also understood him to say that should the problem recur again, he would have to replace the motherboard. I was on a travelling tour for a week after this and was not able to test out this repair (I took my old windows system with me for the travel) To my utter dismay the problem has recurred again after 28 days of purchase. I have attached screenshots. The button for uploaing videos is greyed out therefore I will have to restrict myself to screenshots. All the three screen images occcur
in turn and the system becomes unusable and I have to use the poweroff button. The display problems start within 10 minutes of switiching on the system.
I took some time to discover these forums. The first time this problem occurred on my machin I posted this problem on mac-forums and I was advised to take it to an Apple store and let the apple genius bar worry about this one. I do not live wihtin any sort of manageable distance from such a place and the repair centre is an Apple Authorized Service Provider
Coming to the emotional aspects of this technological glitch. I feel like I have been hit by a truck.I had saved and scraped pennies to buy this dream machine and I believed I was escaping the ficleness of windows. But no windows system of mine (I have three) become so unusable
Will I have to spend time and effort to lug this machine to service centre to replace each of its component parts one by one ? Can I ever trust this machine to provide a presentation to an audience? What sort of an impression will I create if the system plays this trick on me in the middle of some presentation?Shootis007, What is CC company? I googled CC and got many different answers.
I called Apple Support and told them my story and pressed for replacement and they told me repeatedly that there is no policy for replacement. The initial support person who attended my call asked me to take it to the seller and ask the seller for replacement. I dont think that is the way to go. I dont know what is his fault. He gave me a brand new system, the package was opened by me. Since I am new to Mac, I had taken a Mac user friend with me who showed me how to get started (right there in the shop) Neither the experienced Mac user friend nor I felt anything remiss at that time or later at the Seller level. Nevertheless I called the reseller and he explained his helplessness. I dont think it his fault at all.
Since I kept insisting on replacment I was put through to another support person who took pains to reassure me that I should get the defective part replaced and thereafter all will be well. For now I trust him. I have no other alternative
I really am puzzled. All you dear Mac users should know that the machine I dreamed of and really saved to purchase is giving me no end of troubles whereas my three windows machines sit there with their numerous stated deficiencies but gives me uninterrupted service -

My MacBook Pro has booting Problems, Light keeps on Blinking. What to do?
My MACBOOK PRO (Early 2011) is having booting problems. It doesnt want to be shut off. If I do shut it off it would take an hour for it to boot. The light keeps on blinking when i push the on button. After a few times of pushing the button and the blinking light the light keeps steady and the MACBOOK PRO seems to be turning on . A Whirring noise/ sound can be heard. I then turn it off and push the ON Button again and the MACBOOK PRO finally boots. The problem repeats again when i turn the unit off.
I already had it checked by APPLE but they said they cannot find anything wrong with it!! Any help will be highly appreciated.Shut the machine down by holding the power button until the computer is off.
Release the power button.
Reset the parameter RAM by powering up the machine then holding the key combination:
<COMMAND> + <OPTION> + p + r until you hear the restart chime three times
Then perform a SMC Reset by following this procedure from Apple:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Lastly,
If you are running 10.5.4 as shown in your details... Boot to the System install disk
and select the language then select the menu item "Utilities > Disk Utilities"
repair permissions and repair the disk using the repair tool -
I'm not sure if any recent activity spawned this activity but here's what I've done lately that's new...
I booted to the recovery disk and and ran the disk repair utility on my hard drive. Then I ran the RecoveryDiskAssistant to create a bootable USB thumb drive, and then I attempted to create a disk image on an external USB hard drive. About an hour after I started creating the image I aborted the image creation process. Both the MacBook Pro and the external hard drive were very hot.
I was experimenting, attempting to create the disk image file onto an external hard drive that is half the size of my existing main hard drive, and was not sure the image would fit, so aborted the process before it completed once I realized it might be an overnight task. I'm wondering if the heat caused by the intense disk activity may have cooked something on my logic board. Or maybe somethign completely unrelated is the cause, like a recent patch or software update perhaps???
Can anyone help me identify a possible cause of the kernal panics from the two most recent log files attached below?

Thunderbolt Bus:Answering my own question... I did more research and have a theory that my Time Capsule hard drive may be causing the kernal panics due to a disk error. I ran the disk utility to repair the time capsule drive (actually a 3TB Seagate USB drive plugged into my Airport Extreme router). I plugged the drive directly into my MacBook Pro and ran the repair utility. It noticed a "minor header" issue and repaired it. I'm leaving all USB and Firewire devices unplugged for a while and will see if the panics return. Six years without any problem with my MacBook. Love Apple. I'd get a new MacBook, but this one just keeps on working...

My original apple id is not an email address .
I bought iCloud memory via that same account no problem.
When setting up iCloud on iPad you cannot have a primary iCloud account unless it has an email address .
Made new account as per instruction ie [email protected] works fine
BUT as I want to utilise the money spent on the additional memory it would be great to use the initial account set up as my primary HOWEVER as far as I have tried the initial apple ID CANNOT be changed. Bit confused actually any usefull guidance will be greatly appreciated. ThanksSee Here > Apple ID: Contacting Apple for help with Apple ID account security
Ask to speak with the Account Security Team...

My Macbook Pro 2010 is very slow, I know its old but can I speed it up?
I have had my Macbook pro for nearly 4 years so I expect it to have slowed down, but now its getting ridiculous and difficult to use. Does anyone have any ideas on how to speed it up? I have removed all my larger files and the most memory is now take up by my music on I tunes. Aside from buying a new one which I would love to do but cant afford can anyone offer any suggestions to speed it up?
Thanks.I have a MacBook Pro Mid 2010 Model.
My machine is working better than ever since I installed an 8Gb RAM Upgrade and Upgraded the HDD only yesterday. My drive had developed an error and was causing it to be very sluggish. I posted this somewhere else a little earlier:
Quote:...
My Mid 2010 Macbook Pro was getting sluggish even after installing 8Gb of RAM sometime ago. During a verbose boot I noticed an I/O error on my primary drive. Rather than mess about trying to determine exactly why I did a quick search for sensibly priced standard disk drives. Large SSD's are out of my price range so I opted for a 1Tb Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid SSHD which is a standard drive with 8Gb of high quality flash built in.
I swapped out the old drive and put it in a USB Caddy, installed the new drive, blew out all the dust and debris while doing so and reassembled. Booted into recovery from the old drive and reinstalled OSX Mavericks and then left the system to recover my files from the old drive.
WOW!! What a difference!... The read/write is around 100Mb/s. Thats near twice the reading from the original MacBook drive and with the added flash on this new Seagate the boot up time is near the speed of SSD. These Seagate Hybrids are a little more expensive that the regular... but very well worth it.
