If you are running 10.6.8 you can download 10.9 from the App Store and install it with going through 10.7 and 10.8 first. 10.9 Mavericks is a free download in the App Store.
10.9 Mavericks will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.

Apple states that (of the MBP lines) it has to be from Mid/Late 2007 or later. yours seems to be right on the line.

I was to ask the same with my processor. I just upgraded my hard drive to 750GB, and replaced my battery, but I am still getting the spinning beachball. Im happy to just replace the processor if this ball goes away. I do have 250GB free on it. and Im not doing much with this machine other than the occasional iMovie render.

My question is if this "Intel Core 2 Duo a 2,4 GHz", means that we have 2 processors of 2.4Ghz, or if we have 2 of 1.2Ghz?

Welcome to the community. The CPU is soldered to the system board in the X series, therefore you won't be able to swap any processor into yours. Sorry.

IMac Intel Core 2 Duo at 2.2 GHz

Hello. A school system recently got new iMacs with the following specs:
Intel core 2 duo 2.2 ghz with 1gb of ram and OS X 10.6.4.
I work on Dells 98% of the time but looking at Apple's website, I can tell these iMacs are not current.
Can someone please explain how a school system would get iMacs this old?
I think these were in storage for at least two months.
Do you think these were refurbs that the school system received in mid 2010?
I don't know the exact screen size but I can get that info the next time I'm in front of one.
When going to about this mac it said 2.2 ghz.
I have searched everywhere and cannot find an iMac core 2 duo at 2.2.
Just wondering if the school system got hoodwinked.

Since these are user to user forums, how do you expect any end user here to know the answer to that question? How about asking the school or the vendor they were purchased from? However, I'd guess that they were possibly overstocks and purchased or received as such.
If they are new and running 10.6.4 but only have 1 GB RAM, I'd recommend at least doubling that. RAM is rather inexpensive; just make sure you get the exact specs by purchasing from places such as Crucial or OWC (macsales.com); iMacs are finicky about their RAM.

HI, I currently have a G5 Dual 2 GHz PowerPC that I am ready to trade in for an Intel Mac.
Can anyone tell me how the 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Mini would compare? I have 3GB on the G5 and would get the Mini with 4 GB. I am a bit concerned about the slower hard drive, though...
