is upgrading a mid 2007 iMac with 4GB ram (the maximum) to Mavericks going to run smoothly or am i better off upgrading to a newer iMac?

Hmmm. Can you tell me what hardware is needed? I'm not doubting you, but I'm now confused. I was in the Apple store last night and showed an Apple employee - not sure of his level of expertise, but he seemed confident in his answers - my hardware overview and he said that as long as I had at least 8Gb of disk space available, I should be ok. He gave me instructions as to how to find this info when I went home. I did that this morning. I thought I was ok, but wanted to pose the question to the community to see if I got a different answer. And now I have. I asked him what would happen if I did not have 8 Gb of space and tried to download. He said the computer would likely crash.
But an installer failing and a computer crashing are 2 different things. You feel strongly that I should not attempt to upgrade?

Oh nothing major. It's a little slow but overall is fine. I just don't want any problems like some people get when they try and upgrade a 4 yr old computer. What do you think?

Snow Leopard to Mavericks upgrade question!

1st I'm sorry if this is a question that comes up all the time but I'm just a little scared to do the upgrade.
I am a video editor and I use both FCP7 and Adobe Pr 5.5 (looking to upgrade) on my MacBook Pro (2011) 2.4GHz i5 4GB RAM on 10.6.8 NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M
I want to upgrade but I'm worried because I have some ongoing projects and I can afford to lose anything and normally I would not upgrade with ongoing projects but I may have to soon.
I did a time machine backup on everything I guess my question is, is there a way I can do the upgrade and if something goes wrong I can just go right back to Snow Leopard with my time machine backup?
I know this may sound stupid but any input would be great guys.

It is better to have a bootable clone on its own partition rather than have other files on it as well. I would temporarily move my files off the external (to your internal?), re-partition the external so there are two partitions, move back my files to one, and then clone my internal hard drive to the other. I use CarbonCopyCloner and have bootable clones of every OS I have. It is the fastest way to come back from a disaster: simply boot into the clone, erase the internal hard drive and clone the system back. Done.

I have a MacAir purchased in Nov 2008. It has 2 GB RAM and OS X 10.6.8. However, when I click on OS X Maverick upgrade, it says cannot upgrade. Any idea why? Thanks.

After you find the Model Identifier, go to this page:
http://support.apple.com/specs/
Copy the Serial number in the "Search Tech Specs" search box. This will take you to the info on your computer. You can also check to see how much RAM you can install.
While 2GB RAM is the minimum recommended, I suggest you upgrade your RAM to 4GB or higher. Otherwise you might be better off in Snow Leopard.

Safari quits unexpectedly for one user after Mavericks upgrade

After the Mavericks upgrade Safari will always stay open for about 30 seconds before crashing and saying "Safari quit unexpectedly". Furthermore, unless I am looking in the wrong place it is not generating a crash log - I have looked in ~/Library/Logs. I have reset Safari and uninstalled all extensions (had ClickToFlash and Adblock). Using a different account on the same machine Safari runs fine. I have done some googling around but have been unable to resolve this.

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

Iphoto 9.5.1 crashes with mavericks upgrade

I have a few questions reference the latest Mavericks upgrade.
Why does Iphot 9.5.1 crash with the Mavericks upgrade?
Why doesn't it regognise my Toshiba external hard drive anymore?
Why doesnt it recognise My Passport for the backups anymore?

Massive Battery Drain After Mavericks Upgrade on 11" 2013 MacBook Air?

I got my Air about month before Mavericks came out and the battery life was amazing on it. I was easily getting 14-10 hours of life using Chrome and Air Mail App, along with Power Point and MS Word. After the upgrade to Mavericks, it was slow but I started to notice that my battery life during classes was draining so much faster than before and I had not added anything 3rd party software, just the upgrade. I am now down to about 3.5 - 4.5 hours of battery life doing about the same things as before the upgrade. I did a couple of apps and I added (Sims 3 game). However, I have yet to touch it because of the diminished battery life.
I have included a copy of my Etrecheck, can somone take a look and let me know if you think I need to clean something off?
I did do the SMC reset and that seemed to to give a little juice (like putting new tire on your car but still not where it was before the Mavericks upgrade) as I am up to about 6 hours of battery life after the SMC reset.
Please let me know what other information you might need from me that would help and thank you so much!!

Hi Lex,
Not sure why but I had a hard time finding all of the related files to get rid of Origin. But I think I finally got them. I just uninstalled Flash and Chrome. I don't like Safari but all well. I suppose I can deal with it it until Apple fixes this battery issue and then maybe I can go back to Chrome. Safari isn't too happy with certain websites, under the Preferences/Security there is an error message that reads "Google Safe Browsing Service Is Not Available. Has not been updated in 8 days."
Haven't noticed a change in battery since doing all of this so let me know if it will take a couple of days to reset. Or if you see anything else that I can do to help. Thank!

The problem is with facebook, go to settings / facebook / your user name and delete your account, the do a hard reset (home+power for some seconds).
dont need to delete the facebook app! just delete your integrate account from settings

After the new 10.9.2 Maverick upgrade, my Photosmart C4480 3 in 1 printer can not scan and save the file to desktop or documents. You can only see the image in the print preview area. Does anyone know how to fix this or when a fix will be out?

After Aple support downloaded the new 10.9.2 Maverick upgrade on my MacBook Air, my Photosmart C4480 3 in 1 printer can not scan a document and load the file on to my desktop or document file. (You can see the doc image in the preview but it doesn't save it.) Does anyone know an Apple fix for this or when the fix will be out? After hours of trying reloading, and the usual fixes, etc. Apple told me to call HP, and HP told me they don't support Mac. It does not seem honorable of Apple to put out an upgrade and not tell people it will destroy their scanning ability, and that the only thing to do is to buy another printer/scanner.

Have you tried using Applications/Image Capture to scan.
