HT201364 OS X Mavericks

I have the latest Mac Book with OS X Mavericks.  It's running a bit slow and wanted to reinstall Mavericks to see it that makes a difference.  However, when I attempt to download Mavericks a prompt comes up telling me that Mavericks can not be installed.

The prompt is normal if you are attempting to download Mavericks from the App Store on a Mac that shipped with it already installed. To reinstall OS X boot OS X Recovery.
Reinstalling OS X does not remove third party software that may be contributing to the problem, and does not fix hardware problems should that be the cause.
Is your MacBook still under warranty?

It does. But you need a whole lot more free disk space than that. Having 8 GB of RAM wouldn't be a bad idea either.

I have a 13" Macbook (Early 2009), 2gb memory, 9.29GB of free space and v10.6.8 already installed and yet when I click to download Mavericks, a popup comes up on the screen saying "Sorry, Mavericks cannot be installed to this computer". Why not??

  • HT201364 Macbook Pro Mavericks Compatibility?

I purchased my Macbook Pro in 2007....yet it says I am not able to get the Mavericks update?  I'm not seeing any limitations other than the Macbook Pro had to be purchased in mid 2007 or later? This seems ridiculous.  How can I make the upgrade?

Has to do with limitations of the CPU.
Best advise is to upgrade your machine if you want to run Mavericks.

  • HT201364 OS X Mavericks Upgrade

    Hi,
I am trying to upgrade to OS X Maverics from Lion 10.7.5 from the app store and I keep getting this message : "We could not complete your purchase. The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed."
    Please assist.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
To see if you can install OS X Mavericks, open  > About this Mac > More Info, and check "Model Identifier". If it is "iMac7,1" or a higher number, you can upgrade to OS X Mavericks. If it's "iMac6,1" or lower, you cannot upgrade to OS X Mavericks.
If your Mac is not compatible with OS X Mavericks, you can still upgrade to Lion if you want > http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion Make a backup of your files with Time Machine before upgrading and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com

  • HT201364 upgrade to Mavericks

I was advised to purchase and install OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.3 because I would be able to upgrade to Mavericks OS.  I installed and tried to up grade to Mavericks and message back says I cannot load on this computer. My Mac notebook is 6 years old. After some searching I found out that if I download 10.6.8 Snow Leopard it should work for Mavericks. Apparently that was wrong as well. Any ideas out there on what I can do or am I flogging a dead horse trying to upgrade

If your computer is compatable to install Mavericks, then you do it through the App Store which would have been included in your Applications when you updated to 10.6.8
    Check your model here

  • HT201364 OS X Mavericks install not available..

I have a brand new MBP 15 inch with the 16bg RAM.. and i can't install OS X Mavericks.. why is this? anyone else having this problem? Thanks

What exactly are you trying to accomplish? A brand-new Mac probably already came with 10.9 - check About This Mac under the Apple menu - so if you're trying to download 10.9 from the Mac App Store and your system already has it, that won't work and isn't necessary.

  • HT201364 Upgrade to Mavericks/deleting picture files

I am wanting to upgrade to Mavericks however I only have a bit over 6G of space available due to the fact that I have a lot of memory tied up in picture files.  I have backed up my files on an external drive, but am fearful that my picture files will be lost if I delete them from iphoto to free up space.  Do I need to export the pictures to the external drive.  I have done that to some of my pictures already.  I'm just not sure how to go about saving them.

When I look in finder under pictures I see the iphoto and photo booth.  If I send THAT to my external drive does it save the whole 24GB of information including the program and all or just the files?  I have Time machine set to back up to a Seagate extrernal drive.  Have I already saved it?  I also have an iMac.  What is the easiest way to move files from my MacBook Air to the iMac?  I was wanting to set up iCloud, however, it says to have Mavericks installed first and that is where my whole problem started.  I do not have enough space on my MacBook Air to install Mavericks.  I thought the easiest way to free up space would be to delete picture files.  But my pictures are linked to Facebook and Flicker.  Last time I deleted pictures from my Mac they also disappeared from Facebook.  How can I prevent that from happening.
I realize that is a totally different subject and I apologize.  I am just trying to wrap my head around how this all works.

  • HT201364 Installation of mavericks in Mac Failure

i just erased all the HDD and trying to install mavericks online still it says error occurred and stops stopping whn 22 min is remain. So fade up up this problem since 10 hours still trying. Any one has the solution. I'm using macbook pro mid 2009

Is this on the internal drive or an external?
I don't know if it would cause the problem you are seeing, but I wouldn't format the startup disk as encrypted at all.
Once you've installed OS X, go to FileVault and turn it on.
If you are trying to format an external, use the partition tab, select the hard drive (not the volumes) and set it to 1 partition.
If you are using the internal drive, you can do the same, but you must be booted into something other than that drive, like Internet Recovery.
This will erase the built-in Recovery partition, so you need to have another method of booting, like Internet Recovery.

  • HT201364 Ram for Mavericks

    Hi,
I have the Macbook 5,2  2.0GHz and with 2 GB Ram. The specification says that Mavericks works with 2 GB, at this time I have Snow Lion and works fine but if I update to Mavericks my Macbook still work fine or will have problems? Be better to upgrade the ram and then install Mavericks?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
I recommend you 4 GB of RAM at least in order to upgrade to OS X Mavericks. You have got an Early 2009 MacBook that supports 6 GB of RAM, so you can buy more RAM at OWC or Crucial. Snow Leopard works great with 2 GB of RAM, but Lion and newer OS X versions need more RAM to work correctly in general.
Also, make a backup of your files with Time Machine before upgrading and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com

  • HT201364 Why can Maverick not be installed on my computer when I meet the system requirements?

I got my iMac in July 2007, which I believe is mid-2007, I am currently running v.10.6.8, have 2 GB memory and over 100 GB of available space. This to me meets the system requirements, so why do I get the "cannot be installed on this computer" message when I try to upgrade to Maverick?

Something does not match up.  Check your year of manufacture.
To install Mavericks, you need one of these Macs:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)

    Your Mac also needs:

  • HT201364 To install Mavericks, you need at least 2 GB of memory and I only have 1 GB. Can I load more memory?

Can I load more memory and where do I purchase it?

Yes, you can, though you'd need to tell us your exact model of iMac before we could tell you specifically what memory you will need and how much you can expand to. There are a number of good vendors; I've used Crucial and Other World Computing (OWC). Both have been of high quality and good service, and either can tell you exactly what you'll need for your iMac. Other folks here may have additional vendor recommendations.
I'd definitely recommend expanding beyond 2GB. It won't cost that much more and your performance is almost sure to be better than if you just get the minimum 2GB.
