HT201364 upgrade to Mavericks

I was advised to purchase and install OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.3 because I would be able to upgrade to Mavericks OS.  I installed and tried to up grade to Mavericks and message back says I cannot load on this computer. My Mac notebook is 6 years old. After some searching I found out that if I download 10.6.8 Snow Leopard it should work for Mavericks. Apparently that was wrong as well. Any ideas out there on what I can do or am I flogging a dead horse trying to upgrade

If your computer is compatable to install Mavericks, then you do it through the App Store which would have been included in your Applications when you updated to 10.6.8

  • HT201364 Upgrade to Mavericks/deleting picture files

I am wanting to upgrade to Mavericks however I only have a bit over 6G of space available due to the fact that I have a lot of memory tied up in picture files.  I have backed up my files on an external drive, but am fearful that my picture files will be lost if I delete them from iphoto to free up space.  Do I need to export the pictures to the external drive.  I have done that to some of my pictures already.  I'm just not sure how to go about saving them.

When I look in finder under pictures I see the iphoto and photo booth.  If I send THAT to my external drive does it save the whole 24GB of information including the program and all or just the files?  I have Time machine set to back up to a Seagate extrernal drive.  Have I already saved it?  I also have an iMac.  What is the easiest way to move files from my MacBook Air to the iMac?  I was wanting to set up iCloud, however, it says to have Mavericks installed first and that is where my whole problem started.  I do not have enough space on my MacBook Air to install Mavericks.  I thought the easiest way to free up space would be to delete picture files.  But my pictures are linked to Facebook and Flicker.  Last time I deleted pictures from my Mac they also disappeared from Facebook.  How can I prevent that from happening.
I realize that is a totally different subject and I apologize.  I am just trying to wrap my head around how this all works.

  • HT201364 How do I get more free space in order to upgrade to Mavericks OS. I only have 1gb available and I need 2

How do I get more memory so I can upgrade to Mavericks OS? It is telling me I need 2GB and I only have 1GB available.

You need to buy and install more RAM. Use a source such as OWC or Crucial.

  • HT201364 I have most of the requirements for mavericks, however, can I still upgrade to mavericks with 1GB of ram??

I was wondering If I can upgrade to Mavericks if I have MOST of the requirements available..... The only thing I need to do is upgrade the ram. I currently have 1GB of Ram
Or MUST I upgrade the ram???????

And check the Mavericks requirements again. A MacBook that shipped with only 1 Gig of RAM is probably too old for use with Mavericks. As I believe that all of the qualifying MacBooks shipped with a minimum of 2 Gigs RAM.
The minimum requirement for the MocBook is:
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
Note: It always helps to mention your exact Mac model when posting a question in the forums.

I have a macbook air bought in 2008 and am unsure if it can be upgraded to maverick.  Is there a serial number beyond which it is possible to upgrade?  I know that first I need to upgrade to mountain lion or some other fierce cat.

No that system will not run Mavericks.

Is there any way to upgrade tp Mavericks on a Mac Pro built in the summer of 2006?

    No.
To install Mavericks, you need one of these Macs:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later),
    MacBook Pro (15-inch or 17-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later)

Mac mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Your Mac also needs:

2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available space

I can't find the Mavericks installer in the App Store.  No longer possible to upgrade to Mavericks?  I'm running M/Lion.

Once Yosemite was released, Mavericks was removed. Contact App Store support. They may be able to provide a redemption code.

If so... would recommend at least 4GB of RAM... if not 8 GB

  • HT201364 I can't upgrade to Maverick! Help!

I have a MacBook Pro, running on Snow Leopard OS X 6.8. I have almost 1T of space on the HD, and the Memory is at 4GB. why can't I upgrade? How can I find out what year my Mac was built? I got it from a friend, so i have no idea when he bought it. Any suggestions?

    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

    Hello there, doronwesly.
You've definitely gone to the right Knowledge Base article for verifying Mavericks' system requirements, but we'd really want to verify if your system meets the minimum requirement of being Late 2008. This article should help:

  • HT201364 If I upgrade to Mavericks from Snow Leopard will I still be able to use Microsoft office??

If I upgrade to Mavericks from Snow Leopard will I still be able to use Microsoft office??

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Only if you have Office 2008 or 2011. Older Office versions are PowerPC apps, so they no longer work with Mavericks.
If you are running Office 2008 or 2011, open any Office app, go to Help menu (in the menu bar) > Check for Updates, and install the latest version.
If you are using an older Office version, uninstall it and install another application:
Upgrade to Office 2008 or 2011 by buying it from the Microsoft website.
Install Apple iWork applications after upgrading to OS X Mavericks.
    Install LibreOffice > http://www.libreoffice.org.
Remember to make a backup of your files with Time Machine before upgrading.

  • My Apple Mini Display Port/HDMI adapter is not working after upgrading to Maverick?

I am using my 13" Macbook Pro Purchased July 2013 on my 42" Samsung TV.  I route through a HDMI adapter (purchased from Apple) to do my presentations. As a note my setup has been working great for the last year. Immediately following the upgrade to Maverick my Samsung displays "No Signal" and changes state "Check Signal Cable" when the cable is disconnected.  Obviously there is some type of signal but it is not recognized.  I tried working with Apple support and they said that the adapter I was using must not be an Apple product.  I investigated fully thinking I may have possibly bought the wrong item, after much research I have exactly the same thing sold on the Apple store online and I even went to 3 Apple stores locally to see if there was possibly another adapter that I should have purchased, but it was exactly the same thing I purchased originally.  Help me fix the problem or please provide details on how to go back in operating systems to prior to Maverick (and not lose any of my data), this upgrade was a huge mistake way to many problems and not the quality that I am used to from Apple.

Had a similar problem, but the answer is not a good one.
You are going to have to wait until Apple fix this as some 3rd party monitors are not supported by this update.
    So you can:
    Go back to 10.6.7
    Wait for Lion
    or
Use Onxy to clear up your computer and it may link to it again.
I deleted some preference files, which when they rebuilt themselves after a restart did the trick.
It worked for me, let me know how you get on?
