You have a Macbook Pro, not a desktop Mac Pro and, since yours is a 2011, it should install.
How much RAM do you have?
And how much empty hard drive space?
Did you get the machine new or did you buy it used with Lion installed?

If your model does not meet the requirements, then you cannot do anything about it except buy a newer model.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • Why can't I install Mavericks on my mac pro?

hi, I have macbook pro, intel core 2 duo, 2.33 Ghz. why can't I update it to OS X Mavericks? everytime I click on install, it says "can not be installed on this computer". thanks!

    Check the model number.
Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
If your model number is less, you'd need a new computer.

  • HT201364 Why can't i download maverick when my mac comes with it preinstalled?

I bought a new Mac Book Pro with OS X Maverick. Why can't i download the installer from App Store?

Yes Mavericks can be downloaded but is it the *right* one is what Tuttle was getting at.  Don't take our world for it, take it from Apple:

Notice that even the 13" and 15" Retina models have a different version number.

  • Can't install Mavericks on a machine running Mavericks??

okay, can somebody explain to me why an attempt to download Mavericks onto a machine running Mavericks throws an error saying Mavericks can't be  installed this machine?
how am i supposed to reinstall the OS if i can't download it?

It's something PC makers have been doing for years. Apple was pretty much the last company to stop supplying physical media of the OS a computer came with.
For such Macs, the best thing to do is have an external hard drive with an empty Mac formatted partition available. Install the OS the Mac came with through the Recovery steps so you have a clean installation on an erased drive. Then immediately clone that clean install with Disk Utility to the external. That gives you a drive you can reinstall from a heck of a lot faster than over the Internet, and also gives you an emergency drive to boot to in case the internal drive won't boot.
That clone won't have any current or updated data on it, but that's easily fixed, too. You can use Disk Utility to keep a .dmg disk image of your main drive on yet another partition and restore that while booted to the external. You can also use Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! to do that. There is also of course Apple's built in Time Machine.

  • Why can't I install the App Store App on my Mac OS X v10.5.8

why can't I install the App Store App on my Mac OS X v10.5.8
Just purchased OS X Mountain Lion but in order to down load I have to have the App Store App on my Mac. Please help.

10.6.6 was the 1st to support the App Store, 10.6.8 is actually needed now as a minimum.
Install it & update to 10.6.8 so you have the App Store to buy & download the huge 10.8 Installer.(10.9/Mavericks is the only download available now without specially calling Apple).
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
        * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.

  • Why can't I install Itunes on windows vista 64 bit?

Why can't I install Itunes on windows vista 64 bit? I have removed all apple software and repeated the reinstall many times but it fails.  I get this complicated error mesage and then the installer rolls back and fails.

I get this complicated error mesage and then the installer rolls back and fails.
I'd like to have a closer look at that error message please.
Generate the error message again. While the error message box is open, hold down the Alt key and hit the PrtSc key. Paste the screenshot into an image file (using a program like Paint), and save the file.
Start a reply here and click the wee camera icon at the top of the reply window. Click "Choose file", browse to the image file, select the file and click "Open". Now click "Insert file" to insert the screenshot into the reply.

  • Why can't I install Snow Leopard on my videos hard drive?

I have a Mac Pro with four hard drives. Lion is on the primary drive but I need Snow Leopard for a legacy app. My plan is to install Snow Leopard on a hard drive that I use for video projects, and then restart from that drive when I need to use the old app. The problem is that the Snow Leopard installation disk says that it can't install onto the videos hard drive unless I partition the hard drive, which will erase all the data. Why can't it install onto the videos hard drive? There's no operating system on that hard drive. The hard drive has folders for Final Cut Express Projects, iMovie Events, iMovie Projects, DVDs movies I've ripped, a folder of music, and an iDVD project. What do I need to remove to enable installing Snow Leopard?

If I understand what you are saying you have a drive with "stuff" already on it and you want to install a version of OSX on to it while still retaining that "stuff".  If that's what you want to do you cannot do that mainly because there's already "stuff" on that drive.
The only way you can do this is to either of the following:
    a. Copy the "stuff" off that drive to another drive.  Install the OS.  Copy the "stuff" back on to the newly created boot drive.
    b. Copy the "stuff" off that drive on to another drive.  Partition the drive into at least 2 partitions; one for the boot and one for the "stuff".  Install the OS into one of the partitions.  Copy the "stuff" back to the other partition.
Either way, if you want to use that disk for a boot disk, you got to get that "stuff" out of the way to do the OSX install on to that disk.
