HT201364 Why can't I upgrade to mavericks when I have 10.6.8?

I have OS X 10.6.8 on my macbook Pro but I cannot install Mavericks.

Does your MBP meet all the requirements?
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later),
MacBook Pro (15-inch or 17-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later)
Your Mac also needs:
OS X Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8 already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available space

Hi here are a couple of links you may find useful, the first is if you have made a time machine backup, the second if you have not.

Why can I only create 4 forms when I have purchased the entire package at 100+ dollars?

FormsCentral can be used from anywhere, but to purchase a subscription you need a credit card with the mailing address in one of the countries supported for purcahse:
    http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-1375
The partner can purchase if they have access to a card in one of those countries.  Alternatively they do not need to purchase a subscription to edit forms that you've created, they do in order to create multiple forms of their own, but by your sharing forms with them at the "Co-author" level they have access to the editing.  Here are the instructions to share a form:

  • I have macbook pro core 2 duo 2.33, why can't I upgrade to mavericks

    Can someone help?
I read a list of models that can be upgraded to mavericks, macbook pro core 2 duo 2.2, 2.4  & a bunch of others can be upgraded, only the 2.33 is not on the list. why? what can I do to upgrade to mavericks? (my book meets the memory, space and software update requirement).
    thanks!!!

Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes.
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
You can now upgrade to Mavericks OS 10.9 for free IF you have one of the following Macs, with not less than 2GB of RAM, and at least 8GB of available space on your hard drive:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
If you cannot run Mavericks you can purchase the code to use to download Lion from the App Store (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard):
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
    or Mountain Lion:

  • Why Can't I Upgrade to Mavericks?

Almost as long-as it has been out, I cannot even get Mavericks.  Please let me tell details.
I use an iMac from mid-2011, on which Mountain Lion is installed already.  My iMac has 4 GB of RAM & a [400 +] GB Hard Drive.
But with the App Store almost _daily_ over the past month when I try to get Mavericks, I cannot.  Instead I see:  Your request is Temporarily unable to be processed.  /  Please try again later.  [Cutely I think, I added the Emphasis on Temporarily with a Capital, emboldened T.  :-) ]
What is the problem, please?  About my credit card, I _do_ get charged $0.00 each-time that I try but-fail to get Mavericks.  So the charging works well.
Just maybe I need to buy a new iMac with Mavericks installed, already?  My iMac is almost 3-years old after-all, built in mid-2011.
Methinks that a power Higher Up is working.  Maybe God says, Mac OS X v10.8.5 meets your needs comfortably, already.  Why do you care to mess with Mavericks?
My reply would be, To keep current?  [Staying current keeps Apple in-business, well!]  I thank you.

You could try to create a new user account (temporarily) and download it from that one.. Make sure it has admin privledges
Or if you have a friend with a mac, download it from there with your ID, and then put the file on a thumb drive and take it to your mac.

  • HT201364 Why can't I upgrade to Lion or Mt. Lion (from Snow Leopard) - older MacBook but adequate processor, HD space and 4GB of RAM?

Many applications appear to require newer OS, which I get, but what is the technical reason (other than performance) that the newer OS won't run on the older albeit capable machines?  I don't want to upgrade hardware, but...
So is there a work around or not (advisable?)???

Thanks, but at the risk of sounding like one of my kids...  WHY?
I read your link provided - thankyou!  But still a bit perplexed because of my configuration seems to match the minimum requirements indicated:
    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name:          MacBook
      Model Identifier:          MacBook3,1
Processor Name:          Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:          2.2 GHz
      Number Of Processors:          1
      Total Number Of Cores:          2
      L2 Cache:          4 MB
      Memory:          4 GB
      Bus Speed:          800 MHz
      Boot ROM Version:          MB31.008E.B02
      SMC Version (system):          1.24f3
      Serial Number (system):          W8******0HC
      Hardware UUID:
      Sudden Motion Sensor:
      State:          Enabled
But the upgrade scan tool must be picking up some other limitation.  I guess I'll need to ask one of the "Genius Bar" at the local Apple store.
    Thanks again!

  • WHY CAN'T APPLE UPGRADE APPLE TV G1 to have Netflix, Hulu, Vudoo rather than forcing me to use itune to spend a fortune just to rent movies!!!

Yup just like what the subject says:

  • HT201364 I have most of the requirements for mavericks, however, can I still upgrade to mavericks with 1GB of ram??

I was wondering If I can upgrade to Mavericks if I have MOST of the requirements available..... The only thing I need to do is upgrade the ram. I currently have 1GB of Ram
Or MUST I upgrade the ram???????

And check the Mavericks requirements again. A MacBook that shipped with only 1 Gig of RAM is probably too old for use with Mavericks. As I believe that all of the qualifying MacBooks shipped with a minimum of 2 Gigs RAM.
The minimum requirement for the MocBook is:
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
Note: It always helps to mention your exact Mac model when posting a question in the forums.

  • Why can't I upgrade to yosemite? I'm currently running snow leopard on my white macbook.

Why can't I upgrade to yosemite? I'm currently running snow leopard on my white macbook.

White MacBooks are NOT eligible to upgrade to either 10.8 Mounain Lion, 10.9 Mavericks or 10.10 Yosemite.
You maybe able to upgrade your white MacBook to OS X 10.7 Lion
    OS X Lion system requirements
To use Lion, make sure your computer has the following:
An Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
Mac OS X v10.6.6 or later to install via the Mac App Store (v10.6.8 recommended)
7 GB of available disk space
    2 GB of RAM
You can purchase a OS X 10.7 Download code here.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
Before embarking on a major OS upgrade, it would be wise, advisable and very prudent if you backup your current system to an external connected and Mac formatted Flash drive OR externally connected USB, Thunderbolt or FireWire 800, Mac formatted hard drive. Then, use either OS X Time Machine app to backup your entire system to the external drive OR purchase, install and use a data cloning app, like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper, to make an exact and bootable copy (clone) of your entire Mac's internal hard drive. This step is really needed in case something goes wrong with the install of the new OS or you simply do not like the new OS, you have a very easy way/procedure to return your Mac to its former working state.
    Next,
If you run any older Mac software from the earlier PowerPC Macs, then none of this software will work with the newer OS X versions (10.7 and onward). OS X Snow Leopard had a magical and invisible PowerPC emulation application, called Rosetta, that worked seamlessly in the background that still allowed older PowerPC coded software to still operate in a Intel CPU Mac.
The use of Rosetta ended with OS X Snow Leopard as the Rosetta application was licensed to Apple, from a software company called Transitive, which got bought out, I believe, by IBM and Appe  could no longer secure their rights to continue to use Rosetta in later versions of OS X.
So, you would need to check to see if you have software on your Mac that maybe older than, say, 2006 or older.
Also, check for app compatibilty  here.
    http://roaringapps.com/
If you have any commercial antivirus installed and/or hard drive cleaning apps installed on your Mac, like MacKeeper, CleanMyMac, TuneUpMyMac, MacCleanse, etc. now would be a good time to completely uninstall this apps by doing a Google search to learn how to properly uninstall these types of apps.
These types of apps will only cause your Mac issues later after the install of the new OS X version and you will have to completely uninstall these types of apps later.
Once you have determined all of this, you should be able download OS X 10.7 Luon from the Mac App Store icon in the OS X Dock and then login to the Mac App Store using your Apple ID and password.
You can then begin the download and installation process by using the paid download code to Download and install OS X 10.7 Lion rom the Mac App Store.
    Good Luck!

  • IWork purchased on disc in 2011.  Why can't I upgrade free?

I bought iWork on disc at BestBuy with my MBP in 2011.  But when I click on Pages, Numbers or Keynote in the App store I get the message, "Pages 4.3 is already installed but was not purchased on the App store.  Would you like to purchase? $19.99"
Why can't I upgrade?  I did buy it, but at the time it was not even AVAILABLE in the app store.

Then why do we read this ....
    Pricing & Availability

  • Why can't I upgrade from 10.5.8 to 10.6? My MPB spits out the disc before it ever appears on the desktop.

Why can't I upgrade from 10.5.8 to 10.6.3? My MPB spits out the disk before it ever appears on the desktop. The Snow Leopard disk is brand new, was still in shrink wrap until I opened it. I do have the hard drive partitioned, running Win XP with Boot Camp, if that might be the issue.

    Hey vlntrg,
I have a 2002 model Powerbook that will sometimes (most of the time) refuse to mount a CD or DVD. It just grunts for a while and then spits it back out. When this happens, I will slap the bottom of the machine several times with an open hand, not too hard and not too soft. I read this somewhere online (I forget where), and I was hesitant to try it, but it was cheaper than replacing the SuperDrive.
This will often allow me to insert and use the CD or DVD. I have also noticed that I have less trouble when the machine is cold than when it's warm.
I've not had this trouble with my MacBook Pro.
Another thought. Would it be possible to boot your machine in target disk mode and update your software using a friend's Mac? I'm sure there are others here who can better answer that question.
    Hope this helps.
    Andy
