I have tried to restore my i phone 3gs using a USB cable connecting to itunes.The process has gone smoothley but i am now getting this message on my i phone;"your i phone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable.Try connecting your i phone to itunes to activate it,or try again in a few minutes.I have been trying and trying again and switched off my firewall too.but still getting this message.Can anyone please advise me?That is almost always because the phone was hacked to unlock it from the original carrier.

Take a look at this article about what to do if you have forgotten your Passcode:

Try this first:
Connect the device to the computer with which you normally sync and open iTunes.
Note: If iTunes asks you to enter the passcode, try another computer that you have synced with. Otherwise, go to "If you have never synced your device with iTunes, or you do not have access to a computer" section below.
If the device is still disabled, or if iTunes does not automatically sync your device, sync the device with iTunes.
If you have chosen to encrypt your backup, it will contain the passcode. Disable backup encryption before restoring from backup. Learn more about iOS backups in iTunes.
When the backup and sync is complete, select Restore from Backup and choose the most recent backup of your device.
And this section if the above does not work.
Alternatively, place the device in recovery mode and restore it to erase the device:
Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to shut down.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then restore the device.

i cannot access my itunes account when i try to sign into itunes. it keeps saying the itunes store is temporarily unavailable, but i can sign into the apple website.
That means you have to sign into/view your account and review you account and make sure you have a valid payment method specified in your account.

now my iphone is 3GS 32GB and now it is version 4.1 and i make an update to 6.01 and the update is installed but there is an error saying that the activation server is temporarily unavailable and saying try connecting to itunes and to activate and i do but nothing new i need a solve for my proplem now !!

Is backed up on comp but can't get to without phone! During update my laptop shut off. Problem started after I started it back up to finish the process. Why would that make a diff? What to do now???? Thank you for the note - I have seen similar replies on other posting errors and I see how that could make sense. The thing is, my iPhone is not jailbroken - it is from an authorized distributor. However, when I told them about the "no service" problem on the sim, they were unable to assist. Then my phone messaged that an itunes restore was required - so I did that, several times, to the error message now noted on my post. I wonder if there is some other way to over-write this message? Thanks very much. -
