can i track my apple device just by knowing the serial number ? my Idevice has been stolen but i did not activate ''find my Iphone'' on it and now i'm wondering if i could find my iphone just by knowing the serial number
Unfortunately, no. The serial number will only help you file a claim with your insurance company and a police report. The IMEI number will help your carrier blacklist the phone so it cannot be used on thier network. But you needed to enable Find My iPhone on it before it was lost in order to track it.

Did you enable the "Find My iPhone" feature?

Contact law enforcement and file a report. If they have the manpower and deem it important enough, they can get a warrant and get information from your carrier to track the device. -

IF you set up fond my ipod on the ipod itself BEFORE it was stolen AND it is on AND it is connected to wi-fi AND it has not been restored by the thief, tehn you may be able to get an approx street address from icloud/find my ipod.
Otherwise, there is no way to track it at all. -

and restore my iphone .. Now do not be in use for not having ID and password ... Owner apple owner just gave me a serial number how do I want to continue to use this ... If you had not registered your device on the find my IPhone app, but you know the serial number of that device, could you still be able to track your device
No, you can only potentially track it if you have Find My iPhone enabled on it, you can't do it via the serial number.
If this isn't hypothetical, then if your iPad has been stolen then you should report it to the police. You should also change your iTunes account password, your email account passwords, and any passwords that you'd stored on websites/emails/notes etc. and contact your carrier. -

To delete your iCloud account from Settings>iCloud they have to enter your ID password.
The can place the iPod in Recovery mode and they restore the iPod but they will have to enter your iCloud ID and PW to activate the iPod.

My iPad got stolen and it is offline on find iPhone, is there a way I can locate it get it back or even get the serial number of it? I'm really mad and sad about that.
The only to potentially find is if you can do so via Find My iPhone - which will only work if it's connected to a network and the device hasn't already been wiped and/or Find My iPad disabled on it.
If you haven't already done so then you should report it to the police. You should also change your iTunes account password, your email account passwords, and any passwords that you'd stored on websites/emails/notes etc, and if it's a cellular model then contact your carrier.
In terms of the serial number, if you have a backup of the iPad on your computer's iTunes then you should be able to go into Edit > Preferences (iTunes > Preferences if on a Mac), select the Devices tab on that, and then hover your mouse pointer of the iPad's backup : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4061

The SN will not help at all. If wifi is on then call it with FaceTime, Skype, Messages or other app that uses a notification sound and listen. That is the only way. You can also just look for it the old fashioned way.

Question: I have just taken delivery of my LR5 disc. I had already downloaded the trial version. I just tried entering the serial number from my hard copy to authorise my downloaded trial version and it did not recognise the serial number. So, I loaded the hard copy, and the instructions said that it would just overwrite the downloaded version. And again it will not recognise my serial number! I am not wanting to uninstall the trial version as I have already got quite a lot of personal preferences entered etc. Help please. I am on a macbook pro with latest OS

I am trying to find at least the trial version so that I can enter the serial number that I have on the back of the case and activate the full version so I can get some work I need to get done finished.
