If you forgot your screen-lock passcode then there is no way that I know to get stuff out of the iPod. It is a security feature. Your only recourse is to restore the iPod which eraases the current content of the iPod.

my grandson forgot his password for his ipod 3 and it says disabled connect to itunes > when we connect it to itunes it just says to enter the password and we need suggestions on how to unlock it > right now it will not let us go to any screen to put in a code to try to unlock it

Connect the iPod to your syncing compuyer and restore the iPod via iTunes on your computer. If iTunes asks for the passcode and you can't enter it, place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore the iPod. For recovery mode see:
