HT201365 why does my iphone 4s and my ipad turn the "find my iphone app" off on its own in icloud?

If the phone is offline there is no way to track it or send a message to it. You can place it in lost mode to lock it and send it a message (see http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mmfc0f0165), but this will not take place until the phone goes back online, if it ever does. If it does, you will get an email informing you.

I lost my new apple 4S iphone I believe at Newport Village in Port Moody, BC, Canada. I immediately called my network Telus Mobility and reported the phone lost / stolen. They then put the phone on restricted service. A day later one of my friends / contacts in my phone received a call from a person who was at Newport Village and had found my iphone. The unknown person wanted Miles (my friend) to meet him at Newport Village so he can return my iphone. Unfortunately my friend was not arround to meet this unknown person who found the phone. Miles (my friend told this person that he could leave the phone at the local IGA only feet from Newport Village. I went to the IGA but to my surprise the phone was NOT there. I immediately installed the app "Find my iphone" when I first bought this new iphone 4S but everytime I check it, it says that my device is not on. So I'm wondering what the best way I can go about finding my iphone. I was told by my Telus rep that I could relay a message to the iphone offering a reward should he return it to me. Please if you can help me in any way, I would be eternally greatful. I'm on disability and on a fixed income so simply replacing the phone is not an option for me.

i have a Iphone 4s and a ipad mini. the ipad mini recently got water damage, tried the rice trick...nothing. I have apple care plus on my iPhone, does that work on my ipad too? if so that would be great bc defintally can't afford a new one ,lol
Welcome to the boards.
First, what kind of liquid was it, and was it fully submersed? For how long? Do you see water droplets or moisture behind the screen? How long did you leave it in rice for? Etc. More data please.
And the short answer is no, apple care does not extend from your iPhone to your iPad mini. Both items require separate Apple Care plans to be covered. Furthermore, I don't think water damage is covered under Apple Care. Only manufacturing defects.
If you bought it on a Credit Card, you may be lucky enough to call them and ask them if they have a replacement program as a benefit for being a card holder. I believe AMEX has one on their Platinum cards, and worse case scenario, you can always try to file a claim with your home insurance or renters insurance (check your policy). Just beware, if you go the Insurance route in filing a claim, you might have your premium go up in the next cycle.

If you didn't set up Find My iPhone in the iCloud settings, then you can't. Notify the police and change the password to your Apple ID and any other online services you used from that iPhone, just as a precaution.

As long as you enabled it when you first activated your Iphone, it's pretty straightforward. Using any computer, go to icloud.com. Sign in with your Apple ID. A screen will come up with a map showing the general location of your phone. If you have a friend with an iphone and are logged in using Safari, when you get close, you can tell your iphone to make a sound. Good luck.

It is my understanding from these documents that if it is on and connected to the internet you can track it. In there it tells how tell if it is online by the color of the dot.

I still think this person is bluffing, but what confuses me is how this person knew how to contact you (?) You must not have had any security on it at all when lost.

You need to use the Find My iPhone app (in the itunes store - free). When invoking it on a device, you enter the ID password of the account the lost device is connected to. You can also use a computer's browser and log into icloud.com.

If you didn't have MobileMe or iCloud on the iPad, no. I'm pretty sure it's a setting, so it would need to be turned on. Also, there's the chance that it's been Restored, turned off, sold for candy, etc.

I have recently moved here from the UK and this is my 3rd Iphone to have been stolen. I do not have any remaining insurance claims left through Verizon. Pleae please tell me there is a way of locating the device. Thanks in advance.
Without the Find My iPhone function enabled on your device, the only possible way would be to:
1. Report the theft to local law enforcement. Provide them with the serial number/IMEI or MEID number.
2. Try to manually locate the device by calling it, and hope that someone answers, and that they are an honest person.
That's about it. With all due respect, if this is the THIRD time it has happened to you, then why in the world did you NOT activate Find My iPhone?? -
Can no longer copy and paste filenames from the finder to other Apps?
Did Leopard remove the ability to copy a file or folder name in the finder, and then paste that into a text editor?
I have a need to copy file and folder names from the finder, then paste those names into BBEdit. I've been doing this for years. Now with Leopard, I can copy the file or folder names, and even see them in the clipboard of the Finder. But when I try to paste them into BBEdit, TextEdit, Word, Pages... nothing happens. And Paste is grayed out in the target application. As if I had never copied the item in the first place.
Can anyone else copy filenames in the finder? Or do I have a system-specific problem?Never mind. Apparently there was something going wrong with the Finder. I ran Onyx, and things are back to normal now. I was concerned because I actually saw similar but not identical behavior on two Leopard machines. Running Onyx on the 2nd one now.

If it doesn't appear on the map, but shows as being offline, change your iCloud password so no one can delete your iCloud data and take over your account: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2617. Lost mode will be implemented if and when it goes back online and you will be notified by email.

Not sure if it would help or not, but if you haven't already done so, some things you could try are:
Tap Sign Out on the top right of the app, then sign back in
Force close the app by going to the home screen, double-tapping the home button, locating the app in the list at the bottom, tapping and holding the app until it wiggles, tapping to close it, then tapping the home button again.
Go to Settings>iCloud on your phone, turn Find My iPhone off, the after a minute or so, turn it back on.
