HT201385 Organise iOS iCloud folders by subject instead of by app

Like most people I don't organise files by app but by subject e.g. 'Customer A' Pages documents should be in a 'Work/Customers/Customer A' folder along with 'Customer A' Numbers spreadsheets etc. & 'Holiday budget 2015' Numbers spreadsheet should be in a 'Home/Holidays' folder along with my 'Holiday Itinerary 2015' Pages document.
This all works fine under Yosemite on my MacBook Pro but how do I access those files using the iWork apps on my iPad Air?  The only iCloud folder I can see from Pages on the iPad is the iCloud 'Pages' folder; likewise Numbers can only access the 'Numbers' folder and Keynote the 'Keynote' folder.

i see and that is absolute the correct and best way. Thanks for the document link.
I can´t wait to develop our own native extensions. I think that AIR for mobil is just before their breakthrough.
have a nice day...

Can I use iCloud as my library instead of using local storage?  Would I be able to synchronize the music on my phone? and make CDs out of the my music in the icloud using itunes?

Many thanks JEM24 for your help.  Ive just spent the best part of six hundred pounds on a new Sony Rx100m2 compact camera, so I have no interest in the Ipods camera at all really. I doubt Ill be watching many videos on it as Im very lucky in that I have a good Android tablet. Its more as a stock music player that Ill be buying the Ipod for, if indeed I do end up buying one. I dont like the idea of paying the exorbitant amount added for more memory space that Apple along with most other companies charge. In fact I read an article on this very subject just yesterday in the tech section of Flipboard. It stated in the article that in the case of the Iphone  the actual cost of each additional  gigabyte of storage  to Apple et al is something in the order of 60p.. This is certainly not reflected in the price us the customer has to pay at the till.. Its for this reason primarily that Apple in particular, because their products do not allow adding expandable memory of your own in the form of cheap to buy cards, that nobody in their right mind buys the 64gig etc Iphones..I am aware that we are discussing my potential purchase of an Ipod Touch here but you see my point. Many thanks again though for helping me.

  • Outlook has now 2 iCloud Folders... Is there a solution ?

    Hi there
When I had first synced Outlook with Outlook 2007, I could Find in Outlook these folders:
    1) Personal Folders
    2) [email protected]  (where xxxxx = my iCloud email)
After some issues I've had I deleted everything in Outlook, I created a new empty "Personal Folders" folder and then I run iCloud Panel.
This time the sync between Outlook and iCloud created two different iCloud Folders as seen below
This seems strange. What should I do now? Should I just move "Trash" and "Search Folders" into [email protected] and delete the "iCloud" folder ?
    Thank you in advance
p.s. Deleting again all the Outlook folders and re-running iCloud Control Panel had exactly the same results...

Each iCloud account has a separate ID.  You can't have two accounts with the same ID.
If you want to consolidate them, choose the device with the account on it that you want to abandon, then save any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless already there) by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow), then tapping Save to Camera Roll.  If you are syncing notes with the account that you want to keep, you'll need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself so you can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in your other account.  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide your password (if using iOS 7) and choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted.  Then sign into the account you want to merge with and choose Merge when prompted.
You cannot move iCloud email accounts between iCloud accounts so you will have to leave it behind.  You can set email forwarding to the new email account, or add the email account back to your devices  as a secondary account by going to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Add Account>iCoud, signing in to the account and enabling Mail.  Email in this secondary account will only be fetched periodically as push email is only supported in your primary account.

  • HT5527 Can I share my iCloud folders with others? If so, how?

Can I share my iCloud folders with others? If so, how?

This is something for the Apple engineers to answer. I too would like the ability to share folders and/or individual files a la Dropbox.
I've written about some of my complaints with the service so far on this discussion thread: Ways to make competitive with Dropbox

  • IOS iCloud access is a real flaw. There should be a way to access my iCloud stuff on the web from my portables

iOS iCloud access is a real flaw. There should be a way ic an use my mobile devices to access my iCloud content on the web. The push probably works if you are on a fits network, but ia m in a rural community and use my iPad as a laptop when I am working .Apple please fix this. It is unnecessary.
I miss steve. He was such a fascist for good design

What iCloud content are you trying to access that is not already on the iPad? Maybe I am misunderstanding your statement, but all of your iCloud content is already on the iPad. Why do you need to access your iCloud.com account on the web?

  • I want to use iCloud as my mail instead of Hotmail or Outlook, but ...

I want to use iCloud as my mail instead of Hotmail or Outlook, but it's not working out, because I only get an error message that it is a problem with activating my e-mail.

If by "merge accounts" you mean merge iTunes accounts (using your Apple ID), then the answer is no.  If you bought songs, apps, etc. using both accounts over time, then your are stuck.  You need to choose one account for your iTunes.

  • Starting my photo organisation, currently in folders, iPhoto keep structure

Currently all my pics are organised roughly in folders on my external disk. I want to start using iPhoto to organise, tag like I have done with my iTunes library.
    Currently there like this...
    2008 > Sons party
    Xmas
    summer holiday
    etc etc
I know I want to import all to iPhoto and I want to let it do it's stuff, but what about structure? Or will I have to just do a export as I want and need? Picking individual photos as I need? (time consuming)
also I plan to use an external disk and use I for Time Machine. Does iPhoto and all your pics get backed up using Time Machine? If so then I would have a decent backup of my pics, ie 1 on interal HDD on iMac and one on external disk using Time Machine
    cheers

The first thing when working with iPhoto is, oddly, to forget about the files and concentrate on your photos.
As to structure - this is the genius of iPhoto. What structure do you want? In your current structure in the Finder it's all quite limited. Yes, you can find all the pics from Xmas 2008 very easily. But what if you want to see all the Xmas pics from all the years? Quickly?
The core strength of iPhoto are its Albums and Smart Albums. Along with rating and keywords they mean you have pretty much infinite possibilities for finding and structuring your collection.
I use Events simply as big buckets of Photos: Spring 08, July - Nov 06 are typical Events in my Library. I use keywords and Smart Albums exensively. I title the pics broadly.
    I keyword on a
    Who
    What
Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 25k library in a couple of seconds.
So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
    File -> New Smart Album
    set it to 'All"
    title contains Seattle
    keyword is mountain
    keyword is snow
    rating is 5 stars
Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
    New Smart Album
    Keyword is John
Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
    Want only the best pics?
add Rating is greater than 4 stars
The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
Keywording takes time to set up, there's no doubt about it. I use Keyword Manager as it's much more powerful than the inbuilt system, and adds the possibility of nested keywords. So, for instance, if I add John to a photo it also adds 'Family'. Now I can add many keywords to a pic quickly.
In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast. This system works for me.
I'm not sure what you mean by this comment:
r will I have to just do a export as I want and need? Picking individual photos as I need? (time consuming)
Finding a pic in iPhoto is a lot faster than in the Finder, so I don't understand you comment. There's no need to export - depending on what you're using the photo for:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
You can store your iPhoto Library on an external disk that is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
I'm not sure if TM will back up material on a external disk, but there are many, many utilities that will do incremental back ups such as DejaVu or Chronosync or any of the many, many options you'll find searching on MacUpdate
    Regards
    TD

  • In my contacts, I have three iCloud folders?

In my contacts sidebar I have three icloud folders, two contain the exact same folders and one is more complete!  Yet when I was searching for someone I know was in my contacts, I could not find them until I went to the sidebar and chose all contacts.  Can anyone explain this and how I can clean it up?
    Thanks

Try turning contact syncing off, check contacts and remove any iCloud account still there, restart the Mac and turn contacts syncing back on.

  • Icloud folders gone from mail after upgrade to Mavericks

Before upgrading to Mavericks, I had an Icloud folders displayes in the mailboxes setion of mail.   After upgrading, they are no longer there.
    Any ideas?

Same thing for me too.  Late 2012 13" MBP Retina.  I have to unplug the Thunderbolt cable and plug it back in.
This has only started for me in the last two days.  The first two weeks of Mavericks was ok.
Update:  I just got back from a trip.  I was using the laptop separate from the Thunderbolt display.  I hadn't restarted since I returned and connected the monitor.  I've just rebooted, and put the computer to sleep.  After resuming from sleep, the display is ok.  Maybe try rebooting?  I'll update if it continues.

  • Can i use multiple icloud accounts in my find my iphone app?

Can i use multiple icloud accounts in my find my iphone app? I have multiple accounts that i want to tie to that app.

You can't buy another one.  You have to reuse one of the accounts previously set up on your phone, or create a new one to use on another iOS device (running iOS 5 or higher) or Mac (running OS X 10.7.2 or higher), if you have one.

If you're referring to the iCloud.com website for you account there are no photos there.  Photop Stream is only for syncing photos between iOS devices and Macs.

  • Hi I am just after downloading ios 5 to my iphone but now the apps on my phone won't open or work? Any ideas as to why? thanks.

Hi, I am just after downloading ios 5 to my iphone but now the apps on my phone won't work, even the free ones. Have tried deleting and reinstalling but it asks for credit card details even for the free apps. Any ideas as to why this is happening? Thanks

If it is asking for account details then it might just need you to confirm your account before it lets you proceed. Maybe the terms and conditions changed since last time or something like that. Try signing into your Apple account in iTunes on a computer first to check that. Then restart the phone and try again.

after updating to ios 7.1 with my iphone 4 my apps wont update it just loads then stop help please

Reset your iPhone.  Hold the on/off and home buttons together for about 10 seconds till the Apple logo appears.
If you continue to have issues, try downloading the apps to iTunes on your computer, then sync your iPhone using iTunes.
