- You are doing a double upmix/downmix. For me, I tried playing a movie I bought from ITUNES. It was 00% 5. sound but I, like you, only heard 4 channels. Then I realized that on my Logitech analog speakers that I had pressed the "matrix" button which is meant to physically take stereo and put it through all fi've speakers. So VLC was playing the file just fine but my speakers were taking the fi've to one sound and making it stereo.

Try disconnecting the headphones and then adjusting the volume, does it say headphones?
There might be something in the headphone jack, maybe lint, dirt, or something else in there.

And some time it's worked...OMG.....this very tiny hole located next to the headset jack........I suffered for the same issue around 20 days after purchasing my iPhone 4S. Even I visit the apple store too, they suggested to talk with apple online.....just before going to apple, i was reading "iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting" (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802) and at the very first line, i found "Make sure that nothing is blocking the top microphone (located next to the headset jack)." and this located next to the headset jack solved the problem completely for sound in vidio as well as sound with calling speaker phone.....Actually, I purchased a plastic cover (like screen protector type) that blocked this small hole (microphone hole i think) and the problem was because of this...I remember on the first day i talk with speacker phone (nothing on iPhone at that time) and it was working...
No need to restore or hard reset anything...i was fearing i'll lost everything if I hard reset my iPhone that took 5-10 to build my iPhone as I like apps, music, vidio on it.... -

settings- wifi- click network name- enter password - join
if issue persists back up and restore as new via iTunes

The little lock has nothing to do with speaker volume. It means you have locked the rotation on your iPhone.
Have you tried using the volume control on the side of the iPhone to raise the volume when someone calls? -

Hi Guys, suddenly I am not able to hear on my iphone 3GS whenever I receive a incoming call(it's very hard to hear wat the other people is saying)
I had my GENIUS appointment today. They did a couple of tests by plugging my iPhone into a macbook and both came back without showing problem. However as the genius was working with my phone he ran into the same problem with 3G and I had taken some screen shots showing full signal strength but unable to make a call, failure to send mms, and internet unable to connect, so he switched out my phone for a new one as I am still under warranty for another 3 months.
Make sure you backup your data and restore your phone as a new phone before going in to see a Genius, otherwise they may choose to try that process first and do some diagnotistic tests before being able to switch it out, and that can take up to 4 days.
Best guess by the Genius was that it was a hardware problem with the internal cellular antenna. He also recommended I get a new (free) SIM card from AT&T which I did (kiosk was in same mall)
So bottom line...if your 3G is messed up, make an appointment with Apple Genius. Thanks to all who tried to help, but mostly thank you apple Genius for great customer service. -

Not able to hear dialogues in a 5.1 setup

Am a total newbie here and need your assistance for a frustrating issue that I am facing. :angry:
I am using a X-Fi Surround 5. External sound card with my laptop. Initially I had connected Logitech 5. speakers to this directly through analog cables?and it used to work perfectly fine.
I have now connected this to a Onkyo Recei'ver using?an optical cable. When I play movies through this setup, I am not able to hear the dialogues at all. The soundtrack, otherwise, is awesome ! I tried playing movies through VLC, WMC, QT and Windows Media Center... No go with any of them.
When playing it through VLC, I need to change the audio device setting to Stereo. The dialogues are then audible but sound very subdued. The background score is also affected.
Can anyone tell me why is this? As far as I understood, an optical cable can carry 5. sound. Is there some setting that I need to change for the sound card? or for the media players? Have tried almost everything in the VLC settings !
BTW am using Win 7 32 bit.

When using usb not able to hear track
I'm not able to hear my track while recording, when using a usb input (either through speakers or headphones) until I stop using the usb port. When I unplug it allows me to use 'Built-In-Audio' and then I can hear the track. Monitor choice doesn't affect anything while usb port is in use.

Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried.
1. If you've recently plugged anything into the audio-out (headphone) port, plug and unplug it a couple of times.
2. From the menu bar, select
▹ System Preferences ▹ Sound ▹ Output
Check the settings. The internal speakers should be selected as the output device, the Mute box should not be checked, and the volume slider should be at least halfway to the right.
3. Look inside the headphone port. If a red light is coming from the port, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a headphone mini-stereo jack of the proper size.Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
4. Boot in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime. It will take much longer than usual. You don't have to log in; just reboot as usual (without holding any keys) when the login screen appears. (Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.)
5. Reset the NVRAM.
6. Reset the SMC.
7. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data as a precaution. You won't need your backup unless something goes wrong.
8. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to bare metal from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed. -
Not able to listen Audio from the laptop
Hi ,
I recently bought HP Laptop and the audio for the laptop worked fine till last week.
Suddenly not sure what happened I am not able to listen any audio out from the laptop built-in internal speakers and external headphones as well.
Everything was fine on the machine in the device manager . All the windoes services related to audio are running.
Even the sound Icon on the toolbar when expanded showing green color up and dows indicating that it is playing sound .But Ii am not able to hear anything.
The laptop configuration is as follows :
Windows 8 64 BIT OS.
HP Pavilion G6 Brand.
Any help is much more appreciated.

Not able to Hear other person when Handset is activated
I have the problem of not being able to hear the caller. They are not having any issues on hearing the voice. Issue wasn't resolved after pulling the battery as suggested in other threads.
Interesting fact is: When I activate the speaker phone (either by blackberry options / by pressing the button "."), I am able to hear them. When handset is activated, I am not able to hear the caller. I checked bluetooth was disabled.
Any clue on what is wrong with the headset?
