HT201401 no ringtones for text

Purchased a new IPhoneS for my wife.  Straight from box we note that text tones will not sound but only vibrate.  Have reset the phone any advice appreciated.

Check Settings > Sounds > Text Tone > change and see if that helped.

  • "ringtone" for text messages

Is it possible to set a different "ringtone" for text messages? I enjoy being able to set ringtones for calls so I know who is trying to reach me. It would be great if this can be done for text messages too.

You can send feedback to Apple - http://apple.com/feedback and request this.

  • Does anyone know if theres a way to create ringtones for text messaging?

I can create ringtones for phone calls, but is there a way to create ringtones for text messaging?

There is no current support for that. If you like to give Apple feedback and request this, go to http://www.apple.com/feedback/

  • MMS (setting a ringtone for text messages)

Is there an option or way that allows you to set a ringtone for text messages. I previously had a Samsung Instict with another carrier and you could do that as well set ringtones for your contacts. Perhaps this will be in a new software update?? Thanks

how to make ringtones for text?

You can't.  This is not a current feature of the iPhone.  Likely will be this "fall" when iOS 5 is released.

  • Does anyone know when Apple will make the iphone able to put ringtones for text messages..

after sitting in a group of friends at a cook out i heard peoples phones ring with like the transformer ringtone, a song ringtone and a funny ringtone. but to my surprise it was from a text message, i felt so left out cause all i had were those pre programmed tones. i was hoping that that would be something that apple would update and let us have but i yet to find any app or update that did it. so i lost the battle with friends that they should get a iphone cause its amazing. and now they got one up on me saying the evo, blackberry, and droid are better then the iphone. i hope i'm not the only one that feels that we should have special ringtones for text messages too.. i hope someone at apple reads this.

You and your friends base the merits of iPhone, evo, Blackberry and droid on the ringtones. wow!
edit: IOS 5 in the fall,  will have configurable ringtones for messages. YAAAAAAAAAAAAY

  • When will we have ringtones for texts/voicemail?

Seriously, this is totes redonk! My old Motorola Razor had this capability and that was like 8 years ago. For being the cellphone of "the future" it sure seems awfully behind in terms of technology! Just last month we barely got the ability to send pics/video in texts even though other phones/carriers allowed that for the last decade, ugh.

Amazing that you had a Razr 3 years before they were even available. I also don't recall MMS/SMS being available in 1999 either.
If these features are important to you then the iPhone is not the phone for you.

  • Sound for phone but vibrate for text

Hi. I would like to set my iPhone up so that it will make a sound for calls, but only vibrate for text. This is very important to me because I am on call for my job. Thus I would like to be awakened if called, but not for receiving an SMS.
A similarly useful feature would be to be able to use a different volume ringtone for text than for call (that way I could just set up a very quiet rintone for text).
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The volume for ringtones for the phone and txt are set with the volume rocker on the outside of the phone. That is the same no matter what. Once solution would be to create a ringtone and reduce the volume of it when you create it. Another solution that I have seen mentioned here for a similar situation was to set the SMS tone to None. That should then allow it just to vibrate if you have vibrate turned on.

  • IPhone 4: Setting different ringtones for contacts not working.

I can't add personal ringtones for each contact. I have followed all contact editing info to the letter, yet I still only get the same one ringtone for each contact (the default ringtone I set for the phone). Setting different ringtones for text messages works fine, but not for telephone contacts. Is this feature broken? Is anyone else having this issue? Thanks.

It happened to me also when I first added specific ringtones to contacts, but just turning the phone off/on fixed it for me. You can try a reset also if that doesn't work (hold down the home and sleep/wake buttons at the same time until the Apple logo comes up)

  • Different Ringtone Notifications for Text and Email

I would like to assign different ringtone notifications for texting and email, and if possible, different ringtones for each of my two email accounts.  I need to see texts immediately, but not emails.  Am picking up the phone 50 times a day so I don't miss a text, critical to my work. Could do this on Bb Storm, but can't figure out on Incredible.  At a minimum, I would like to shutoff notification for email, and just get pinged for texts.  Thanks!!

    Well,
The default notification tone that you set in the Settings->Sound is for the default tone in the generic e-mail account and all other notifications.  If you use the Gmail client, you can set your own personal ringtone in it's settings (Menu->Settings).  In the messaging Application you can also set a custom notification sound from there as well (Menu->Settings)
As for different e-mail accounts using the same e-mail application, I don't think that is possible with the in stock app...tho I am not totally sure I haven't use it like that before.
    Hope that helps!
