HT201401 no sounds when receiving messages emails phone clls
am receiving no sound alerts either outgoing or incoming. Any help gratefully received
Is the device on mute? Check the switch above the volume controls on the side of the device. If you see a red dot, it's on mute.
Otherwise, basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

HT201401 No sound when receiving message or phone call - worked previously
For 2 years my phone has worked fine but now I am not receiving any sound to notify me of phone calls or messages. I have checked all the settings and cannot determine why this has happened. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

No alert sound when receiving email
Yes, it is selected in email setup, rebooted...tried it all, but no alert sound when receiving email
anyone with a fix, please help. This sounds like a well-known problem which has been discussed over in the Mail discussions for quite a long time.

Search there and on Google to see the variety of possible causes and fixes. Here is what appears to be a common cause and possible fix (which worked for me):

IPhone making strange sound when receive all types of message.
I've bought my iPhone 4S last week and it started making a really strange sound when receiving all sorts of messages (e-mail, whatsapp, sms). The sound is the sound I selected for each one but it loops 4 or 5 times everytime! What can it be?
If no change after powering your iPhone off and on, try an iPhone reset, which is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release - ignoring the slide to turn off prompt when doing so. An iPhone reset does not affect any data or settings.

After updating iphone no sound when receiving texts. All choices only vibrate. Also no volume bar for music.
Hello LEC2,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
I would first check to make sure that your sound options for your alert tones is set correctly. Please look at the following link for more information:

TS2755 No sound when receiving txts...
I have noticed after the last two updates I have no sound when receiving my txt messages.
Not sure if I have done something wrong...
Thankful for any help...No, you can't get rid of the sending sound.
If you have your text tone set to "none", you will receive no audible notification and no vibration. The work around would be to install a custom ringtone that is just silence and set the text to that. You wouldn't here anything but you'd still feel the vibration if you've turned that setting on. -
Notification center does not play sound when receiving notifications.
Why my new ipad Notification center does not play sound when receiving notifications.
Settings>Notifications .... Did you set up the various apps to receive notifications?
Do have system sounds muted?
If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

N78: disable sounds when turning on/off phone.
Hi, is there a way to disable sounds when turning on/off phone, even when on normal profile?
Thanks.
Solved!
Go to Solution.yes, turned "Warning Tones: off" "Keypad Tones: off" This would make the starting up "SILENT" and when you turning the phone off it will also be "SILENT". This can be done to any Profile of your liking. I put mine to "New Profile" and use that profile as my daily profile.
Hope this help you bud. If it does help please Kidou! me

Hi,
I have an issue with some PDF documents & some MS Office documents, notably MS Word when received in eMail as attachments not displaying properly on iPhones, iPad 2s & new iPads?
PDF docs - areas of the doc only show as grey splotches regardles of viewer
MS Word Docs -
inserted graphics don't display at all,
tables & lists especially with borders are broken &
tables & lists missing the borders &
tables & lists missing the 1st 1-2 lines of the lists/tables.
This is replicated on iPhone 4s, iPhone 4Ss, iPad 2s, iPad new (x2)
It certainly happens in iOS 5.1.1 & iOS 5.1
We believe it all worked aok in iOS 5.0.1(?) & prior
There is no problems reading/seeing these PDF & Word docs on anything other than iDevices.
This is rather critical for us & if not quickly fixed/rectified will prevent us from further purchases of these devices
Rolling back to iOS 5.0.1 or prior I believe isn't possible because of the BaseBand update(?) & isn't much of an option because of the quite noticeable Battery/Charging/WiFi improvements in 5.1 & 5.1.1Hi,
I logged a call with AppleCare & have since had explained why this occurs (some time ago)
I'll try to explain what was indicated to me.
iOS has a limited Font Set & this affects what PDFs can display. You need to use iOS supported fonts in your PDFs to see/read them properly
These supported fonts are indicated here => http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4980
Regards MS office docs, iOS doesn't have much of an API to work with MS Office documents at all so is stuck with 3rd Party Apps to try to do it.
Unfortunately Mail in/on iOS uses the API to attempt to open/use MS Office attachments unless you tell it to use an App to open the attachment.
I have had success opening & reading MS office docs now with CloudOn, but find it slow & very awkward to use.
Not too sure if this helps others, but at least it explains why this is occurring -
I updated the software for my iPhone 4 from 6.0 to 7.1.2 and now pictures (contact picture/picture ID's) no longer appear (take up the entire screen) when receiving or making phone calls. They only show in a small circle which is not convenient at all. How do I fix this, please?
You are welcome. I have seen numerous posts on this subject, so I suspect you are correct. It doesn't seem like a welcome change. You can send feedback to Apple at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Script for no sound when receiving spam
Hi there, I'm looking for a script for Apple Mail that shuts off sound when a message that's labeled as spam comes in. I have several e-mail accounts running in Apple Mail. It happens often that while checking for new mail only spam comes in. It would be great if the notification stays silent in that case. Any ideas? TIA.
EITHER YOUR RINGER IS NOT ON OR YOU HAVE GONE INTO SETTINGS AND TURNED SOUNDS DOWN THERE HOPE THIS HELPS
