HT201401 using my iPhone on a different carrier

I am switching from AT&T to Sprint because my employer has a contract with Sprint.  Will I be able to use my iPhone 4S with the new carrier?  If so, how?

No, you cannot.  Sprint is a CDMA carrier and will only activate devices on their network that have been sold for their network.
Unlocking the device will have no affect.  It may increase the resale value, but it will not make the device work on Sprints network.

  • Can i use an AT & T iphone with a different carrier

If i buy and older iphone from ebay can i use it with straight talk. if it is at & T or some other carrier can still use the phone with a different carrier? thanks

Only if officially unlocked, which only the carrier the phone is locked to can authorize. Be aware, most carriers will not authorize official unlocking unless you were a customer that used the phone on their network. Best to stay away from carrier locked iPhones if your intent is to use the phone with a different carrier.

  • HT5538 My boss has an IPhone from a different carrier than my iPhone. I want to set up iMessage so we can text each other for free. Is that possible? If so, what do I do to my phone and/or hers to set it up?

My boss has an IPhone from a different carrier than my iPhone. I want to set up iMessage so we can text each other for free. Is that possible? If so, what do I do to my phone and/or hers to set it up?

Just turn on iMessage... Settings > Messsages > iMessage > On
Note that iMessage uses data (very small amount) so you need a cellular data (3G/4G) or wifi connection for iMessagae to work.  Also, in the Messages app, iMessages are blue and standard text messages are green.

Ask the carrier it's locked to if they'll unlock it. Nobody else can.

  • HT1937 Use iphone 5 two different carriers one in U.S. other in CR?

I am getting a iphone 5 for sprint. Can i sue the simms card when in Costa Rica with their system without spirnt charg? I currently have a GMS phone for CR but want to use the iphone 5 instead. Can I switch between carriers as it appears to say on page 161 of the iphone 4s manual?

What difference will it make - Verizion still has you under contract and they are still going to bill you for the phone once it is delivered, whether you use it or not.  Your contract starts from the day of delivery, whether you use it, throw it away or whatever - Verizon still gets their monthly due for the next two years.
Did you port your AT&T phone number when you ordered?  If so, then your AT&T account is going to be closed as soon as Verizon ports that number into their system.  You will then owe AT&T for final service and any ETF due.  You cannot reverse a port once initiated.
If you did not port your number, you might as well activate the phone and use it with the new number until your AT&T contract is done - you will be paying the monthly contract fees to Verizon anyway.  Once you are ready to, you can always call Verizon and ask them to port over your AT&T number, at any time.

  • IPhone and iPad2-different carriers

I want to upgrade my phone to an IPhone through my current carrier, which is Verizon. However, my iPad2 3G is AT&T. If I get an iPhone, will I be able to "tether" my iPhone to my iPad for Internet service? Do both devices' carriers have to match?

It does not matter what service the iPad has as you are using the iPhone's network when tethering. You will need to talk to your carrier about the plan.

  • I wanna be able to use my s5 on a different carrier how do i unlock my SIM?

    PLEASE HELP ME ASAP!!!

When you talk about a Verizon phone...I know of none.  You just have to look at the specs for the phones.  This is an EXAMPLE.  I use the iPhone 5S for this EXAMPLE.
    AT&T          Model A1533 (GSM)*: UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1700/2100, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 13, 17, 19, 20, 25)
    VERIZON    Model A1533 (CDMA)*: CDMA EV-DO Rev. A and Rev. B (800, 1700/2100, 1900, 2100 MHz); UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1700/2100, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 13, 17, 19, 20, 25)

  • Can i use my iphone with a Belgian carrier?

I am moving to Belgium. Does anyone know if the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5C from AT&T will work on the phone systems in Belgium?

The iPhone 4s and 5C should work on the GSM network in Belgium, but you must first get AT&T to unlock them.  Only the carrier can unlock an iPhone so you need to deal with AT&T.  The only other concern would then be the 4G/LTE frequencies - those are likely to be different than those used by AT&T so you may be limited to 3G service.
If you are still under warranty and/or AppleCare+, that will not be valid in Belgium.  You will not get service or support from Apple outside the US on iPhones sold in the US.

  • Using Verizon iPhone 5 on another carrier?

I've been reading around and from what I seen, Verizon's iPhone 5 is already unlocked.
So if I want to use the phone with another carrier, how would I go about that?
When I take the phone to the new carrier, would they be able to activate it no problem?
Is it possible to port my number with the phone as well?

What carrier are you thinking of going to. Verizon is a CDMA phone and AT&T and Sprint are GSM. So even if they are unlocked you can only use a CDMA phone with a provider that is CDMA.

Now the deal here is, iOS 6 is out now, so in order to complete the instructions and restore it with iTunes, you have to update to iOS 6. I decided to keep 5.1.1, so I did NOT restore the phone. I checked a couple IMEI checker sites, and they all said my IMEI was unlocked, so rather than use iTunes, I just replaced the AT&T SIM with an O2-UK SIM card I had when using my Android phone in England. I was pleased to see T-Mobile show up as my carrier when I turned the iPhone on, and in Settings, it shows O2 as the carrier instead of AT&T, due to the O2 SIM being installed. Then a moment later, I got texts saying what my remaining British £ balance is, since I had leftover money on the SIM from my last trip, and another text said "Welcome to America, have a nice trip!"
The phone isn't jailbroken or anything like that. It's still on 5.1.1 with the proper, working Google mapping. Never restored via iTunes. Never updated to iOS 6. Any SIM card works. No tricks or hacks. You don't have to restore the phone to complete the unlock.

  • I set up iCloud on the Mac and sync my devices but my wife also uses an iPhone with a different id. How do we sync both iClouds to the one Mac?

My wife & I use the same Mac (running Lion) to share address book, Calendar. Now with iCloud we have separate Clouds for each device.
We need to still sync to the on Mac. How do we acheive this? My iCloud works fine but not the wife's.

I'm trying to sort out the same thing. I appears that under your iPhone Mail, Contacts, Calendar settings, you can change you account name that it syncs with, so you may be able to just add your AppleId account to your wifes settings, not sure. It also lists eMail, though, as well, so not sure how that would route your separate email.
Also, in AddressBook, there is a sharing option in preferences you might want to check out. I'm in the process of upgrading all our iOs stuff, so haven't had time yet to check it all out. It is taking a LOT of time to work through all this. Not seamless by any means.

  • Is there a difference between the iPhone 4s from different carriers?

I just switched from AT&T to T-Mobile and am having poor service in a few locations (like my office).  I called T-Mobile to see what could be done and one of their excuses was that my phone (an iPhone 4s) was an 'AT&T phone' and didn't have all of the T-Mobile 'settings'.  This seems spurious to me.  Is there any hard information about this anywhere?

There was never a TMO version of the iPhone 4S.  They are correct that the iPhone does not support all the bands that TMO uses.

  • New iPhone, Different Carrier.  Does this affect Backup

Does changing carriers when I get a new iPhone affect a Backup & Restore?
I currently have an iPhone 5 on AT&T.  My new iPhone 6 Plus arrives in a few days, but I'm going with T-Mobile this time.  I'm planning on doing a "Backup & Restore" using iTunes, but I'm unclear about how that works since I'm going with a different carrier for the new iPhone.  Other than that poorly designed AT&T app, will any AT&T settings or info be restored to my new T-Mobile iPhone?

I understand how to transfer my content from my iPhone 5 to my new iPhone 6.  I just wanted to make sure that in the process, I wasn't restoring AT&T settings or info.  The page you linked to doesn't mention anything about when the old and new iPhone are on different carriers.
You say the carrier is "not important."  Does any of the old carrier info get restored to the new phone?

  • I want to use my verizon iphone 4 with another carrier

how can i use my iphone 4 with another carrier?

Did you read the question properly?  The OP has a Verizon iPhone 4, so obviously they have a CDMA phone because Verizon is a CDMA carrier.
They will not be able to use the phone with any other carrier but Verizon and also the Verizon iPhone does not have a sim card tray.
