Nope. You didn't. You purchased a used iPhone for a 'good deal', and didn't take the proper precautions to make sure you didn't get scammed.
You got scammed. You bought a stolen iPhone. Next time, think more carefully. If you cannot make contact with the seller, then it was unwise to make a purchase from someone you don't know and cannot contact.
This is on you, not Apple.
Where, exactly, did you see the 'ad' for this iPhone for sale?

I'd like to buy an iphone second hand and although I trust the source I'd like to be able to check with certainty that the phone was bought instore.
I was thinking to ask for the receipt and check the serial number. is the serial number written on the back of the phone and the recipt(if the phone is sealed)?
Similarly, if I buy an ipad 3 or 4 second hand, how do you check this again?

AnthonyAsk the person you are buying the phone from to provide the original proof of purchase for the phone. If you do not know the seller personally I would be very cautious about purchasing the phone. There are many many stolen, hacked and jailbroken phones out there and these will only cause you grief down the road.

If the repair shop was not apple certified repair shop then Apple will not replace/ or touch that device with a ten foot pole sadly. I'd follow Rudegar's advise and try anthoer repair shop as sadly it sounds like you got jipped by the original owner. Always verify your infomation through the company before you hand over the money!

I just bought a second hand iPhone 5, but the sim tray seems to be for a sim sized ~14x8mm, thinner but longer than a nano SIM (~12x9mm). Can anyone explain why, and how to get a SIM to fit?

Hello I have just purchased a 2nd hand Ipod touch 4th Gen, I cannot seem to delete the Apple ID in the message settings of the previous owner?
Go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Settings. Then setup the iPod with your account.
If necessary, place the iOS device in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

Previous owner re-set the phone but his ICloud account stayed on now my phone. He uses his AppleID on his new iPhone now and, understandably, does not want to give me his password. Any ideas?? Please.
This issue is blocking my access to iTunes and any other file from my home computer. It keeps on telling me that I have to autorise my computer to pass on files, yet, it seems, for all this to happen, I need to get logged in through the phone's Apple ID. This of course is different to my one on my computer - and I have no password for it.
This phone is not stolen!! I payed still a fair bit for it. Am still in contact with the previous owner. He doesn't know how to fix the problem either.
Would appreciate any suggestion ????

hi have just purchased iphone 4s . my itunes on my mac is currently 10.4 . 10.5 is needed for the new iphone but when i download it and click on install the itunes about still says 10.4 . have tried to update through itunes but it says there is no software available for me . please help . mr frustrated
If your computer is running an OS X prior to Snow Leopard 10.6,
the answer (if it is an Intel-based Mac; not old PowerPC model)
would be to buy the retail Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD from Apple
for about $20, and install it. Then update that to 10.6.8 by using
the installed Snow Leopard online to get Combo Update v1.1 for
Snow Leopard 10.6.8. After that is installed & updated, run the
system's Software Update again, to see what else is available to
that system.
Later systems can then be looked into at Mac App Store, once
the computer is running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
And if your computer is a Power PC (G4/G5, etc) and has no
Core2Duo kind of CPU -- See "About this Mac" in apple menu
to disclose the general info about your Mac. Also you can see
even more by clicking on "More Info" when looking in there...
If it isn't an Intel-based Mac, it can't run a system past 10.5.8.

I want to keep it more streamlined for things that I really use and not filled up with a lot of games, pictures and so on. I don't know how to go about setting the itunes account up. kathyI would advise that you not set up a second Apple ID. It's really not necessary - having two Apple IDs won't affect how iTunes works with your iPads - and will just complicate matters. Each iPad will be treated independently and can be set to sync only the items you want on that particular iPad. If you really want to keep the two iPads separate, set up different iTunes libraries and have only those items you want on the related iPad in that library, rather than a different Apple ID. If you plan not to use a computer and just download directly to the iPads, you can again choose what apps and content each iPad gets.
But answering your specific question, you can have content from up to five iTunes Store accounts on any one computer or iPad. To create a new iTunes Store account, you'll need a different email address, and from there you just create the account the same way you did the first one.

Sorry to ask, how do I do it please. I have my first ipod with the same account on both computers that have different libraries one of which I am building now. Do I have to de-authorise my original ipod on the computer that I want to use my new ipod on with the new library and then register my new ipod. I would rather do this than have 2 libraries on one itunes, but keep the same account details.

First ever post on here but I feel that my options are slowly running out. I've just bought a second hand iPod Touch 32GB 4th Gen. It was reset to factory settings meaning that that software was 4.3.5
As soon as I plug it into iTunes it asks me to update to the latest version. I click for it to go ahead but the connection times out (error code 3259)
I've been on the phone to apple for over an hour and we still couldn't resolve the issue. We tried disabling the firewall, uninstalling AVG, diabling pop up blockers, checking the LAN settings, disabling the router security and anything else we could think of.
We still couldn't get it to stop timing out. I tried to download the firmware from iClarified but iTunes said it didn't recognise the software.
