HT201412 Anyone else's iPad 1 constantly crash?

I'm an certified AppleTC and work in a University and have tried everything to get our companies iPad 1's to stop crashing when running the latest 5.1.1 iOS. I have wiped them, restored, set up as new, hard reset, limited the amount of apps etc and have come to the conclusion that it's the OS that is at fault since all our iPads 1 do exactly the same when running 5.1.1.
All the iPad 1 we still have running version 4x iOS work fine, don't crash, are fast and snappy unlike this one I'm trying to type this on which can't keep up with my typing and is frankly painfull to use.
Telling my bosses that the solution is to buy new iPads dose not go down very well when the device is well looked after and is not physically damaged.
I know that this is due to lack of memory but I wish the last iOS for this device was a stable one that allows the iPad to be used for its primary task of surfing the web and social media without constant slowdowns and crashes or at least provide a mechinasm for down grading to an earlier OS that works.
Unfortunately I'm losing the battle to recommend these at work and they are now switching to MS surface and Nexus devices.
So Apple, if this is a ploy to force upgrades to newer iPads,  then this is a floored strategy, you are simperly going to loses market share due to a making the final iOS for this device a bad apple.

My original iPad is running strong. No issues whatsoever. But you might check the app inventory and see if there is an app that may not be fully compatably with the earlier version of iOS you run on the iPad.
What's a "floored strategy"?

  • HT201412 Anyone else's iPad Air become unresponsive for a minute or more every once in a while since iOS 7.1?

A couple times a day, I open my iPad Air's cover and nothing happens.  It will show whatever I last had on my screen, but hitting the home button, the lock button, any hand gestures....nothing is responsive.  This lasts for around/over a minute. I hard reset and that makes it work for a while, but it freezes far more often than it should since 7.1.  I'd rather the springboard crashes, since that is SO much faster than waiting for the iPad to be responsive again.
I just want Apple to be aware and wonder if/when we might see some sort of resolution to this.  It's Apple's flagship iPad yet it freezes like a bottom-tier device.  No bueno!

You can tell Apple at http://Apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
There is something amiss on your iPad. You should consider restoring it to Factory condition via iTunes on a computer.

There are some patterns of crashes that suggest possible causes and fixes; some users report crashes when FCPX is in the process of loading; others while importing/exporting, etc. Asking to narrow the list of possibilities.
    Suggest starting with three things:
    1) Update the software from the APp Store  if need be.
    2) Trash preferences.
    3) Repair permissions.

  • TS1702 Anyone else's iPad 2 freezing and quitting since upgrading to iOS 6?

  • Does anyone else's ipad 4 get really hot my ipad 2 didn't do that

Does anyone else's ipad 4 get really hot my ipad 2 didn't do that?

My ipad 4 gets warm, at the left side, I am confused with it because I am aware that ipad 3 gets hot, and apple already fixed it with ipad 4. Some ipad 4 users can experience it (I searched it in the net because I am concerned and worried with it) but there are all some users that doesn't experience it at all some even used it for hours and no change in temp but my ipad gets warm with minutes of use

  • Has anyone else had the day view crash calendar in iOS 7.1 on iPad Air?

I recently updated to iOS 7.1 on my iPad Air (128 GB cellular). When I go to the calendar app and select the new "Day" view, the calendar app crashes.
I have iCloud calendar and two Google calendars syncing with the device. When I disable all calendars from syncing, I no longer experience a crash in the "Day" view.
Has anyone else had similar experiences?
    Thanks,
    Fyzel

Switching to day view doesn't crash calendar but I can't launch the calendar app in iOS 7.1 (on my iPad 2) if synch is in and it was last in day view. It crashes on launch.

  • IPad original constantly crashing. Want to completely re-install OS.

My original iPad has been constantly crashing. I'm using iOS 5.0. I was at the Apple Store recently on another matter and the Genius there said I should re-install the OS from scratch but *not* do a restore. She said I should do everything manually, including re-installing all apps by hand. And only then should I restore data from the cloud.
Just want to confirm that I understood her correctly. Is this the correct way to proceed? If so, what's the outline of steps to take?

Well, here's the unfortunate update from 6 days later. I wiped the iPad and only had iTunes update the firmware and the OS. Then, with nothing else installed, I tried out Safari. It crashed and burned. It was also sluggish and suffering from major latency...just like before.  Not good.
Then, I installed a fresh copy of Netflix from the App Store. Tried to use the seach box. Typed a few characters and (just like before) it crashed and burned.  So, the 2 litmus test apps I used to diagnose my initial problem didn't pass even the simplest smoke test on a newly paved iPad.
This can mean only 2 things: either my iPad is hosed in some way (bad memory maybe) or perhaps the original iPads are just not happy with iOS 5.0 or 5.1.
I'm not going to sit here and bash Apple, either. I'm an Apple fan boy *AND* a Windows fan boy. I love both platforms and do development work on both. But Apple has a reputation for coming out with new software that isn't compatible with earlier hardware platforms. That's how they do business, and it's what keeps them innovating. Microsoft tries to stay compatible with older platforms for as long as possible, and Microsoft hasn't innovated in years. It is what it is.
One of my memory tools for the iPad shows that after starting Safar and Netflix, I have less than 5 mb of RAM left on the system. Now, you don't need a CS degree to know that 5 megs of free RAM only *any* system is a recipe for disaster. I just don't think the old iPad version 1.0 was designed with multitasking in mind.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated. But at this point, I've already reinstalled everything from scratch using my backup so at least I haven't lost all of my personall settings. The iPad still crashes all the time, and I deal with it by trying not to run more than one app at a time. I guess Apple really wants me to "upgrade" to an iPad version 3.0...

  • Is anyone else having problems with safari crashing?

Is anyone else having problems with the iphone 3GS freezing, and in particular, Safari and anything else that relies on the internet crashing since the 4.3.2 update? Everytime I open safari it crashes within 10 seconds.  I've tried restoring the phone but that hasn't worked.  Any other suggestions?

The exact same thing happened to me. On the recommendation of various news articles, I manually upgraded the Flash Player plug-in from 10.0.23.1 to 10.0.32.18. Initially, I had no problems, but when I started viewing ESPN Flash-based videos, the entire browser would hang (this was true of Safari, Firefox, and Opera - all of which I tried and had the most updated version of). I then force quit and rebooted. After I rebooted, the problems disappeared for a while, but after some more browsing, I encountered the same problem with any page containing flash. I turned off the Flash plug-in in Firefox and I've had no problems so far. So I know for sure that it's a Flash problem.
I tried to uninstall Flash and downgrade, but I couldn't find any previous versions of the Flash player plug-in. I did find some experimental builds, but they still crashed all three browsers.
Flash is pretty miserable. If I didn't have to use it to watch ESPN videos, I would have no purpose in using Flash at all.

  • Does anyone else this error after iPhoto crashes when importing?

I tried searching for answers on Google, Bing, Webcrawler, and even Wolfram but there is no answer for this anywhere on the web.  Just got done installing my new hard drive.  I made sure to backup EVERYTHING and I even made a zip copy of my iphoto library.
On my initial first launch of iPhoto, I try to import my library and iPhoto crashes after about 3 seconds.  In the error report window that comes up, it lists this as the reason why it was terminated:
'[<NSCFDictionary 0x1f0ad190> valueForUndefinedKey:]: this class is not key value coding-compliant for the key 1140.'
Does anyone know if this is a simple code fix or how to solve errors like these?  Remember, this is fresh install of OS X on a new SSD hard drive.  All of my Adobe apps are running great with no hassles.  The only apps that are giving me trouble are iPhoto and Aperture.
Even worse is that now Aperture is stalling every time I try to export a version of a photo that I retouched.  I'm thinking it probably has something to do with why iPhoto constantly crashed when importing.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

When I said, "import," I meant that I do drag my iphoto library as whole and drop it into iPhoto.
That is eactly what you NEVER do - that is importing the old library into the new one - you never do that
    again it is very simple
You NEVER Import an iPhoto library - period
You drag an iPhoto Library  intact as a single entity to the pictures folder and launch iPhoto --  No importing involved

  • Is anyone else having iPad 2 wireless issues?

I'm on my second iPad 2, the first one had issues staying connected to my airport extreme and had very slow download and upload speeds. The apple store replaced it and the second one seemed to stay connected fine but was still very slow on the internet compared to my iPhone and iMac. I use Speed Test and have repeatedly seen very slow speed results when testing all three devices one after the other. Now it seems that the issue with connectivity is getting worse and the speed test remain very slow in comparison. I did a test on my iPhone today are got very fast speed and the iPad 2 wouldn't even connect to the wireless. This is very frustrating as I decided to spend the extra $ for the wireless feature. Anyone else having these issues and what would you do? Any fixes or updates coming soon from Apple? Love the devise otherwise.

My iPad2 has recently experieced dropped connectivity problems as well. At first I thought it was an issue because I just got my wife the 4th gen iPad and as soon as she started using it I started having these problems. I can connect if I'm sitting next to the router (Time Capsule), but if I move out more than twenty feet the connection gets weaker and eventually disconnects. This only happens with the iPad2, my wife's original iPad still maintains a strong signal as does her new one, same with all the MacBook Pros we have. It's not the router since I have tried it with others with the same result.
I have done all the suggested steps by Apple User Maunual and by Discussion groups members
    1. rebooted the iPad2 and Time Capsule
    2. Reset Network settings
    3. Established separate channel 6 for 2.4ghz versus 5.ghz
    4. Shut off Auto- Brightness and turn up Brightness to full.
    5. I even wiped all the data, apps, etc clean and started over.
I still have the problem. Quite frustrating to say the least. There still may be an issue between 2.4ghz devices and those that are also 5.ghz, but I haven't solved it yet. Or maybe it's a hardware antenna issue.

  • Running ios5.1.1 on original iPad. system constantly crashes and returns to home page when on the web. using safari.

Running IOs 5.1.1 on original Ipad. System constantly crashes returning to the home screen when in internet. Using Safari browser. is there anything I can upgrade or clear to help??

There are a few things that you could try. First try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data and also Clear History
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Is anyone else's iPad crashing, constantly, after the last update? iOS 8

After updating to the new iOS 8, my iPad is running slow and it crashes every time I open more than 2 windows on the safari, what's the deal?

    Hi Cisco7545,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
To start troubleshooting this issue, please go ahead and first force close all of the apps currently running on the device, and then reset it by following the steps in the articles below.

  • Is anyone else having problems with AirServer crashing?

This is not the same as the known issue with iOS 7 and iPad 3 and 4. It will not even let me close the program. I have to close through activity monitor. Using iPad2 updated to iOS 7.0.2 and 7.0.3 on OS 10.8.5 and OS 10.9. AirServer Version 4.7.1 (4.7.1).
After I force quit and restart the program, it seems to work fine.
