The front camera of my iPad suddenly stopped working, I've tried everything but the shutter wont open

What kind of reset did you do? The one I would try, is to hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears. Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow if it appears. The iPad will restart after a couple of minutes. Resetting (rebooting) this way will not hurt anything, and sometimes clears up mysterious problems.
If this does not help, I suspect your camera circuit is defective. If it is in warranty and you show it to an Apple Store Genius, you may get a replacement on the spot.
If out of warranty or there is no Apple Store near you, look for an Apple Authorized Repair Center. There may be one in your city. <Apple Authorized Repair Centers>

Is there a way to wake an ipad up by detecting motion with the front camera?

I am using the iPad for an HMI Display To control a machine and want it to be able to wake up from sleep just by detecting motion with the front camera rather than having to push any buttons on the iPad, is this even possible?

No apple store, or Best Buy or anything like that. Again, she lives in a very remote area. The closest stores are roughly 6 hours away. I suppose she can go to a friends house that has a computer but then she is setting up her ipad on someone else's computer. Since she's been able to use the thing out of the box (and without a computer) for over a year, we were just hoping to this without the need of a computer. I guess we will just have to wait for her next visit to us in the city.

Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank power On again in the normal way.] It is absolutely/appsolutely safe!

Try closing the Camera app via the taskbar and see if it works when you re-open the app : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Camera app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Camera app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

If you successfully restored (went through all steps without error) to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

If you restored the iPad to factory settings and the camera still locks up, you may have a hardware problem and it may be time to get Apple involved.
If it was just Skyoe, I would suggest deleting the app and reinstalling, but you can't delete FaceTime.

Try closing the Camera app:
1. Double-click the Home button to reveal the Task Bar
2. Hold down the Camera app for a second or two until you see the minus sign
3. Tap the minus sign to close app
4. Tap area above Task Bar to return to Home screen

Front camera picture quality - iPad 4 - iOS7

Recently i purchased iPad 4 and upgraded to iOS7. The upgarde was successful.
But i just noticed, my front camera picture quality is not that good as my friend's ipad's has.
I dont know whether its beuase of new iOS or the hardware issue with my iPad.
I tried connecting with local Apple Service Center here, but they were totally blank about it and had no clue why is it so.
Can anybody help here?

I also just updated my iPad 2 to iOS7 yesterday and discovered the same issue with grainy pictures. I know what the problem is...my camera is permanently zoomed in 30%, just like when you switch from camera to video. Choosing between video and camera, there is no change in the zoom on screen. This is a software issue and must be fixed with a software update. Has this issue been addressed?

While those numbers seem low its important to remember what the ipad cameras are for. They are not for taking photos. Who wants to hold up a huge ipad to take photos anyway when the chances are we all own a camera phone with much higher resolution or better yet, a real camera.
The cameras are designed for video. The front camera is good enough for facetime only while the rear can handle 720p video. Again, enough for a video call but thats about it.
