HT201412 iphone 4 died and will not charge to turn it back on

My iPhone4S died earlier today and I have been trying to charge it for quite some time now, but it wont seem to charge up.  Nothing happens whenever I press the button on the face of the phone and when I press the on/off button on the top of the phone, the battery symbol appears on the screen, but only with three faint lines of red on the battery symbol blinking and then the screen goes black again.  Can someone please helpme with this problem?  My phone is not old at all, I have only been having it less than a year.  Thanks.

My iPhone 4S did the same thing. I was using it, it showed the low battery warning, I used it a little longer, and it shut down in the normal way. I plugged it in for several hours to recharge, and it didn't charge at all. When I unplugged it from the charger, the screen showed a battery symbol with three red lines in the bottom of the battery. Now it also showed the charger connector symbol and a lightening bolt and then screen went to black. The charger was not warm, but the charger worked on my iPad. Still I tried a new charger cord and many outlets, because I was on vacation and desperately needed the iPhone.
In the month before this happened, several times my iPhone 4S showed I had 1% battery life after it was charged and had just showed a higher percentage like 40%. I could continue using it as if it were 40% charged. I read several Apple discussions, finding others had had this issue, but there seemed to be no consensus on what caused it or how it could be corrected. The problem didn't happen often or consistently, so I continued to use iPhone as usual.
After the three red lines appeared, I tried solutions as follows: I tried turning the phone off. It didn't seem to work. I tried holding down the power and Home buttons simultaneously. Nothing happened. I tried turning it on. No change.
I don't want to Restore my iPhone, because two days of vacation photos are on it but aren't in iCloud. We had very weak wifi in the hotel, although my first day's photos made it to iCloud. (I should have been paying more attention to this! Oops.)
Has anyone resolved this issue? I recently upgraded to iOS 7.0.1, but had the 1% issue before and after the upgrade. Thanks.

  • My iPhone 4G died and will not turn on with hard reset.

My iPhone 4G died and will not turn back on. I got an e-mail and then took a phone call. After ending the call I went to text, but nothing. Screen was black with no warning. I plugged it up on a charger and nothing. I tried a soft rest and a hard reset and still nothing. I have it plugged up to my computer and without it coming on it will not recognize it on iTunes to do a restore. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Is this fixable or should I write it off and replace the phone? It is 1yr and 1 month old.
    Thanks,
    John

It's been a day and no luck, so I guess I have to get a new battery?

  • IPhone 4s and now iPhone 4 will not charge to turn on

My iphone 4s stopped taking a charge, I've tried working chargers which I tested on other iphones to make sure they are good working units and they worked fine on other phones but would not charge my own. I tried holding the home and power button down while it was plugged in and even gently cleaned out the lint and dust particles from the connectors. The phone will not turn on and it never says it's charging? Because of this I resorted to using my old iPhone 4 and now, just this past weekend, it has done the same exact thing and will not charge nor turn on. Has anyone had a similar issue or know a fix or do my batteries need replaced?

Yes, I have tried multiple chargers! Before the 4s stopped taking a charge it was kind of gradual where it showed it was charging on the screen with the battery and lightning bolt icon but it would sit like that for hours and never turn on even when I held the power and home button at the same time to hard boot it. Eventually the charging icon stopped coming on and hasn't since and neither phone will turn on or even show any signs of charging.

Assuming your iPhone is well charged, place it in recovery mode as described here.  You may have to try this more than once to succeed.

my iPhone 4 has just shut down.  Rang the phone then vibrated for 2 minutes bank screen, will not turn on, also tried charging and will not charge.  Any suggestions?  I did download a ringtone app and went on to iTunes to sync!.

Try charging the iPhone via a wall socket for at least 30 minutes then try a reset by pressing and holding the sleep/wake button and the home button for 20 seconds (maybe longer) until the Apple logo appears, ignore the red slider.  Then turn back on. You won't lose any data doing the reset.

I know any device could malfucntion but if it costs $40,000 to buy you could at least warn someone of the possible malfuctions. It makes the company look bad when a large amount of your devices act up and you "cant help them" if they dont pay extra. Im just saying.
Sorry but that makes no sense at all.  How can they possible know what things will possible malfunction on your device?  Anything that they think is highly likely to malfunction they would have addressed in desiging and manufacturing the device in the first place, during development.  They've made and sold many millions of iPhones, and many of them have lasted years without any problems (I know, I've owned such iPhones personally).  So how could they possible know if yours was any more likely to develop any issues than any of those other trouble free ones?
It's hardware - stuff sometimes breaks randomly.  No amout of money ever guarantees or even reduces the likelyhood of random product failures.
Take it in to Apple and see about getting it fixed.
